Swedish House Mafia? They’re reportedly reuniting at Ultra.
I'm hoping that Ultra would put in some more of exclusivity clause in there that would keep them from playing this, and GV has the sense not to pay for them to headline even if they don't.
Tide really turned on big room EDM this year - even Lolla only has like one big electronic act (ODESZA) in it's top 20. Would feel really weird to go back to these guys headlining multi-genre fests. They missed the reunion boat by 18 months IMO.
Does Desert Daze nabbing Tame Impala in October in the desert lower their chances of Coachella 2019? Or is it too small of a fest to care about
I don’t know about lowering their chances of playing but them headlining these smaller festivals (and not headlining others) have me questioning their viability as a Coachella headliner.

They need another hit album to headline a fest the size of Coachella. While their Panorama headlining debut was a great show it didn't exactly help move tickets as that day was pretty empty.
Totally. Maybe we're overestimating they're pull, but who knows.
Either way, I'd say Arctic Monkeys or Flo are probably the slightly more likely "third" headliner to go with two of the three of huge pop star, huge rapper, huge rock act.
I think they will either have Tame Impala or Arctic Monkeys. Whichever one isn't booked could play '20. They are in a similar position.
AM will be rounding third and heading home on their new album tour cycle next spring, so they're more likely next year than '20.
I haven't heard any more on a Tame new album, but assuming its end of '18 or early '19, I can imagine GV waits for its reception and see if they're a viable '20 headliner.
I think Tame is in the same position and The Xx and Bon Iver were last year - really strong sub, but not quite at headliner status. I can see them getting the same treatment.

Looking at the past several years of lineups, I kinda wonder if the days of smaller headliners are over. With who they’ve had the past few years (with the exception of LCD Soundsystem) I don’t know if Tame Impala will cut it, even with a new album. It looks like Coachella may have upped the ante with their headliners.

11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

Ultimately I think it depends on headliner availability. If there aren't a ton of huge acts available, I can see a fringe headliner like LCD, Phoenix, etc. playing.
I was kind of surprised to see AM outside of the top 3 at this point. They’re all basically fringe headliner/guaranteed subs was my original point. Though QOTSA, AM, and Tame are being booked exactly where I’d expect them, though many anticipated the bump.

Planning on making Coachella 19 our first. Flights are way cheaper for me to fly into Vegas and then drive to Indio. Has anyone ever done this or would anyone suggest doing this? We figured it would be a very pretty drive

I’ve heard of people doing that, but keep in mind it’ll be a long drive. I’d recommend looking into San Diego for another pretty but shorter drive.

Aren’t Vegas and SD roughly the same distance? I know some boarders have done the Vegas route and it seems fine.

SD is around 2.5 hours, while Vegas is roughly a little over 4 hours. Not a big deal if people like driving, but that extra 3 hours between the drive there and the drive back can add up for folks who aren't keen on driving a lot.
when should I look into getting a place booked for this? We are going to go hotel route because it will only be the two of us
I booked my house for next year last month. I didn't want to mess around. If you're going the hotel route it probably won't be as bad but trying to get a house to rent when the locals know the Coachella weekends was a process.
