If they didn't get the pumpkins or maybe MCR they probably won't have a reunion headliner. In years past I know there's been rumors of Bauhaus but I don't see that happening.
The question is, does the casual music fan/festival goer give a shit that it's the semi-original lineup of Smashing Pumpkins?
I love D'arcy with all my heart, but I do think Corgan is right in saying that she didn't have as big of a role in the later work as you'd think. I think the most important part is the Iha/Corgan reunion.
I think if a Smashing Pumpkins reunion would mean anything anywhere, it would be in Chicago. But I think it remains to be seen if anyone would care.
Which is why I think they'd do much better at smaller festivals like Shaky Knees. They'd get billing that would satisfy Corgan's ego and they'd have a good turnout.
I think given the demographic of this fest, it would go over well. I would definitely get a daily pass at the very least for them. If they could get Tool or The National alongside them, I'd be in for sure.
I was wondering if a Smashing Pumpkins reunion was even in the cards since James Iha is deep in A Perfect Circle for the year, but apparently they end their tour dates (currently listed anyway) in June, so I guess he could just jump to pumpkins not long after? I'd see them at Riot Fest before Lolla as well.
With a new album on the way, you'd have to imagine Andrew WK would be there too..
What's everyone feeling for the top lines? I'm thinking Smashing Pumpkins for the reunion, the National, Tool, Modest Mouse, Perfect Circle
I'd be back. For sure. I wish I could say that I was definitely doing it again this year, but last year took a toll on us. We booked everything super far out, but everything that could go wrong did go wrong leading up to our trip and we almost had to cancel days before. The right bands though would make me much more willing to go through that hell again. The festival made up for all the hardship leading up to it.
Just took a listen to Mellon Collie for the first time in a couple years...holy shit, some of those songs still rip and the production really holds up to this day.
I forgot how heavy some of the tracks are, if they play Jellybelly, An Ode to No One, Where Boys Fear to Tread, Bodies, Tales of a Scorched Earth, or XYU live on this reunion tour it'll be well worth the cost of a ticket.
Somebody had mentioned before that The Cure would be doing one US fest. Is that true or BS. Would they repeat a headliner? Also Smashing Pumpkins would be number 1 yeah? Smashing Pumpkins/ The National/ A Perfect Circle
Would be a crazy top 3. Modest Mouse seem to have made the jump to smaller fest headliner. Could see them playing. For some reason I doubt Tool plays this year. I also doubt that for The Cure. I just want some US dates for them.
I doubt The Cure are playing Riot Fest again. Yes, I agree OG Pumpkins would be #1. I think APC are more likely for Chicago Open Air but I could seem them here as well. Lastly, I can't see Modest Mouse being the first repeat headliner with no new music to promote.

If The Cure headline a US fest I'm thinking it's either OSL or ACL. Those seem to make the most sense for them this year.

I'm legit losing my shit over this Pumpkins reunion. I'll obviously hit up every show in NYC, but if they also headline Riot Fest I think I'll make the trip out. I've been telling myself every year I'd go, this would definitely get me to bite the bullet.
