Shameless plug for my HS. But our former RB who played for Michigan and Rice, and was practice squad for the Raiders, Pats, and Cards, is now on the US bobsled team.

You may remember him from such films as;
Those hurdles did not translate so well at the next level. He looked really cool on Youtube for a bit, none the less.

He also had 6 or 7 other touchdowns that game, he was a lot of fun on the field. He scored a touchdown for UM in his first game, then got a concussion soon after and then their next guy up ended up being better. He also had pretty good season for Rice with 800 rush/300 rec that only a couple other guys did that year. Would have loved for him to be in the NFL but it probably would have shocked me had he actually made it. We made it to the Qtr finals his big jr year and then just recently won state without anyone nearly that good, HS football is weird.

His videos were popular right around when I started coaching so his name made the rounds. I had high hopes for him based on the hype. It's funny that you bring him up though. Another coach and I were just talking about him and this other RB from Aledo, Jonathan Gray, who also fell into irrelevance. Had no idea he was doing the bobsled thing though so good for him.

"I remember getting the biggest smile," Shimer says. "I couldn't believe we were getting an athlete like this." < the coach. they've been pretty high on him for a while, and it's the closest I've followed bobsledding since Cool Runnings came out which is cool.
All this bobsled talk makes me want to head up to Lake Placid and try. No one has ever wanted to do it with me though.
I miss Lake Placid. I didn't know that they let average people bobsled though. Opportunity lost.
Yeah. It's only at certain times and usually just weekends because it's still an active training facility. But I wanna do it so bad. You can also do skeleton, I guess.

Yay!! Thanks for doing this. I think I prefer the summer games to the winter games, but still amazing to watch these people do their thing. Can't wait for speed skating and all the bobsled type sports. I really want to go to an Olympic Games one year.

Fun story about Sam McGuffie. I didn't have any classes with him but one of my friends did. One day, he's looking at the overhead projector and he's like "wait, is that shaking?" He thought he was shaking the overhead, but he was making his eyes vibrate back-and-forth and distorting his vision. This dude thought he had telekinesis for a second.
I was on his offensive line in middle school, interviewed him for the school newspaper in high school, and was at Rice when he got there. If there was one place I never expected to see Sam, it was Rice. It's like I couldn't escape. He followed me onto an elevator one day and said "ayyy Pablo, I didn't know you had the grades for Rice!"
I felt like Dave Chappelle when R Kelly asked him how he could make a video about peeing on somebody. "Mother fucker, how do you make a video about peeing on somebody?"
Just so everyone isn't caught unawares, ski jumping and curling actually begin on February 8th (I think they call it Day -1).
They did this for the Summer Games as well. I can think of no good reason for why this is a thing.
I know that some events like soccer require extra days to fit all the games in for round play but don't expect that's a factor for these events. I feel like some shooting events had already awarded medals before opening ceremonies at summer games but might be misremembering about that.
I definitely want to try curling at some point. Seems like a more interesting version of bowling, a game where you can just sorta drink and waste time.
