2) Once an artist or member of an act is drafted, they are unavailable to anyone else in any capacity. For example, if Gorrilaz is drafted, Blur is unavailable because Damon Albarn has been drafted.
Bryce Dessner is part of the Planetarium group(?), so he can't be drafted later as part of The National as well. I can see the frustration with the pick, but it seems pretty cut and dry per the rule. My question is if he has to pick The National and Sufjan solo later or if he just gets them automatically.
I get that, but Gorrilaz and Blur are both actual bands as opposed to Planetarium which was just a sort of a one-off collaboration between artists that was only performed 4 times in basically the same week- globally, as pointed out by acruse. I'm just saying that it is kind of a shady pick. I get that all the rules would say that this is a justifiable pick, but common sense should say it's not. But again, I'm not playing, so whatever the participants think is what really matters.
edit: ftr, I don't even like Sufjan so I don't really care all that much. I do like The National though (seeing them next week WOO!) so it sucks that a questionable pick is keeping them off line ups..... oh well. Carry on!

Common sense and rules have nothing to do with each other. This is coming from someone that enforces rules professionally.

Fair enough. I guess that's where loop holes come from! lol

Dessner is committed to his festival that weekend. It's not a shady pick, it's strategic.

And loop holes are part of what would generate such a rule. If flex room is allowed, the whole exercise can get caught up in arguments about how many shows or how big of an involvement would constitute making someone unavailable for one of their other projects.

I totally understand the strategy. I'm not arguing the strategy at all. I'm just saying that the pick itself shouldn't be allowed. It was clearly a one-off string of performances to promote the album's release. If they were going to do an actual tour with it they would've either done it then or announced it by now. That string of shows occurring in the past year is why he's justifying the pick, because it technically makes them available, but it's clearly not a realistic pick. Sufjan isn't on any festival line ups for this year, nor is Planetarium. The National are actively touring, and Sufjan could potentially be active. But not Planetarium.... My point is that this was a shady pick bc Planetarium is not an actively or consistently touring act, and I think tristan knows that.
If he wanted Sufjan and The National then he should've drafted both of them individually and had them do Planetarium once everyone is in one place, but not the other way around... That's like someone drafting Monsters of Folk then later being able to pull out Connor Oberst, MMJ, She and Him etc. out.
Does no one else agree with me or is it just early in the US and no one is up yet?
And with this, I really will go back to being a silent observer. Just food for thought.

I agree but it is what it is. It’s just the bad part about that rule. Personally, i wouldn’t give a crap if anyone took thom yorke solo and i think it’s BS that anyone gets a 2 for 1 or a 3 for one. Your one pick should be your one pick. However, them’s the rules.

Here we go with this shit again. I’m sorry but as the guy who got fucked over last year bc we did allow for blur to be picked even after I had selected gorillaz With my second pick think we set a precedent.

Also a string of 4 shows doesn’t justify they will ever be back. I can speak to this as I was told last season I was also not able to draft YYY bc they would quote “not be touring anymore” I think y’all said that for Jack White too. Lol just shows y’all vote for rules to help your case and against ones that done and that most of you all don’t know shit. Typical.

I think this speaks to the more substantive part of the discussion. The Planetarium shows have no indication of happening again after the four last year. Dessner has shows with The National scheduled through September. A case could be made that "credible documentation that an act has broken up, has no plans of touring, are focusing on other projects, does not play in this country, etc." exists.

That's a fair point. Do any participants want to call for a poll on this? (You can DM me if you'd like to do so privately.)

is the poll for planetarium to be allowed at all or for a rule change regarding 3 for 1s? seems people are separately against both things
I'd like a poll. I think Dave brings up a good point, and personally I think I Planetarium is more like drafting TDE and getting Kendrick, SZA, Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul. They're more like artists working together than a band. Not a perfect analogy and there are arguments against it but I think it leans that way.
Look at it this way - what is the name of this band? There is none. Look at the way this album is listed anywhere: Planetarium is an album by Suf, Bryce, et al. Four different individual artists.

If someone picked the National I wouldn't be able to draft Planetarium, which is why I had to draft Planetarium first. It's not like I'm trying to fuck people over lol. Plus Planetarium has been performed like 11 times over a 6 year period and is going to be performed this year as well. It's not a one off project.

And so it begins. There's nothing wrong with the pick by the letter of the rules. This rule should just be changed in the future. It should be either, you get to pick an act and anyone can pick other acts that share a member or whatnot, or once a pick is made, that's the one pick that is allowed of any members of that group. In this situation, Planetarium is picked, so no one can pick The National or Sufjan.
yeah i don't have any issue with planetarium being available, i don't have any issue with sufjan being off limits, i do think if a guitarist has a side project then that whole band becomes off limits is a little much.
like if i picked the voidz, i get the strokes, do i also get Albert Hammond solo? or does that only work if I take Strokes and get Voidz/AHJr?

If you get the Voidz, you get the Strokes but not Albert. If you get the Strokes you can get them all
