Wow so i was waiting in the standby line when this woman came out asking if anyone was alone. Somehow i was the only loner in that area of the line. Turns out she had an extra wristband. So im in. Cop’t a limited poster too. Patience is a virtue and going to shows alone pays off sometimes.
This set was mostly laid back tunes but nonetheless phenomenal to hear in such an intimate setting. Definitely had the tranquil hotel vibe going. And a nice break from the sets theyve been doing. Gotta be the first time they havent played Dancefloor or Brianstorm in almost a decade.. www.setlist.fm/setlist/arctic-monkeys/2018/acl-live-at-the-moody-theater-austin-tx-b96a9f2.html

Might be a long shot but I fucked up last weekend and forgot to get my sister in law a Metallica shirt and she was super TO’d with me. If anyone is willing to grab one for me in XL I’d gladly pay pal for the cost of shirt plus shipping and a couple beers. Looking for this design. I would just order online but looks like only mediums and smalls online.
Rhye was chill, it's not a super exciting show, bummer the tent gets so packed, I'd bet half the people don't even care who's on, but I managed to find an ok spot under the tree.
Caught the end of Brandi Carlile doing Zeps Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and Hendricks National Anthem on the way to Blood Orange.
Who was excellent, only caught the first half, but he played all the good stuff from the new album and St Augustine in the first half.
Saw all of Disturbed, haven't seen them in a decade, didn't care to see churches for a third time. It was good, played all the hits, Sound of Silence was pretty great live and I don't really love their studio version all that much. Got to yell out NEVER STICK YOUR HAND IN MY FACE AGAIN BITCH, FUCK YOU at Zilker while kids were walking around me, that was pretty much a dream come true. They're pretty corny, but they've got some really good songs outside of the cookie cutter stuff they've put out recently.
During disturbed we heard the PA at Lil Wayne come on three times telling the crowd that people at the front were being crushed and if the crowd didn't step back they would cancel the show. Three times. He eventually came on and it was dope. Got two of the three really good C5 stuff (I didn't catch Mona but we got the Swizz beats one), go dj, lollipop, a milli, 6' 7', I'm Me. doing the WEEOOOEEEOOOEEE during Mrs officer walking by a bunch of cops was pretty funny. I wonder if police like that song in general. Walking to Metallica they were playing ACDC too loud to hear Wayne anymore, I guess the olds couldn't handle killer lines like "I'm at your face like man cum, you softer than rosannes son".
Metallica was incredible, also haven't seen in a decade, week 1s set was better I'll give that, but getting Blackened was tight. The crowd was SUPER empty by the halfway point. I kind of thought a wave of justice people would come over but that never happened and I just keep walking up as people left. Pulling teeth, puppets, one, search and destroy were incredible. Thinking about it now, I can't remember if they did anything from Lightning, which might be my favorite. If you're gonna make Cthulu the wk2 poster play the fucking song! But it was still amazing.

Yeah the heat sucked, I kept waiting for the rain and it never came. I stopped drinking early into Metallica, chugged a bunch of water through the show, and ended up Bart o kavanaughing next to trader Joe's after walking back.
Parkay Quartz excellent as always. One Man, No City is the best thing to happen to the American music festival scene since the Livenation takeover.
Janelle was pretty great. At some point I was thinking they could have put her in Justices spot and she would have done fine opposite of Metallica. Big crowd, everyone was into it, lots of production. Felt like a shame that it was early in the day.
Vince, my sweet Vince. Haven't seen him since '16 at the Roo tent, so the product upgrade felt very big despite seeing pretty much the same thing on the Coachella stream. He's a funny dude and those songs slap. Best late add afaik.
St. Vincent was nice, we stayed through Los Ageless, Cheerleader, and something else. Third time seeing her so we meandered to shaky Graves who was really good. Looked like he had the mustachio light show or something, definitely unexpected visually. Saw him solo earlier in the week so I wasn't sure if I'd remember the songs I liked from that but he did Nirvana's Something in the Way and that was a highlight of the weekend for me, crowd seemed into his other stuff, and he's also a funny dude. "I wrote this song in 2009" (crowd woo's) "wooo yeah 2009!"
Artic Monkeys we're good, liked the new stuff, only thing I recognized preTranq base was Why Do You Only Call me when you're high, which was nice. Sound bleed from Travis was awful, that shit was loud, also first 5-10 minutes the lights on Miller light stage were at full blast and that sucked. Would've liked to stick around, but tired, needed to drive, and the bleed was a bummer. I'm pretty sure they played some other old songs that were more rockin and the crowd ate that shit up. I kind of doubted them as a headliner but they did good, still bummed about Gambino but I've seen worse headliners at ACL FOR SURE. 4 stars out of 5.
All in all great weekend, the rain last night really helped the dust, first time I've left a fest without the black nostrils thing going on. Checked Paul off the list, smashingly, Metallica #2, first time in Texas, first Wayne solo and he showed up, on time, sober, lots of repeats St V, Fjm, Hozier, Vince, Courts, disturbed, blood orange, but all were great, most got better. But ACL can eat it for giving and then taking away Justice from me.
Stubbs couldn't accommodate their lighting rig and every medium-large sized venue is booked tonight (Arctic Monkeys at ACL Live, Emo's has Manchester Orchestra).
If this is true that’s fucked. I don’t understand when stuff like this happens. You know what the specs of your set up is, the venue knows what they can accommodate. How does shit like this happen when these things are booked so far in advance?
I don’t think I’ve ever sweat more in my life than I did Saturday and Sunday.
Janelle was by far the best set of Sunday, though. I’ll never understand how she’s not bigger. St Vincent was great as always, and I enjoyed Arctic Monkeys, but that sound bleed from Travis was so terrible.
I feel like ACL burning through 5/6 headlining acts a year is going to leave them pretty empty without having some repeats. Who do they pull in for 2019 whom won't be a repeat?

Cardi B
Really the one artist I thought that is a lock as new headlining act.

Roger, The Who as far as big legacy 1's
Kanye and Coldplay were 3/4 in 2011, I could see either of them being a 1/2 now.
I think Metallica being so under attended would make them think twice about GnR, who probably aren't bigger right now, and have been touring more.
I could see them bumping Stapleton/Sturgil to a headliner, more Stapleton, but he's played more recently.
I feel like we can go ahead and peg The Racounters into one of the top 6 spots for next year.
Seeing a lot of complaints about how bad the crowd was this year, which is interesting because it actually wasn't so bad for me compared to every other year I've been.

I liked the crowd for the most part. There were some annoying people during Paul and there was a bizarre thing going on at Phoenix that I'll give more detail on later.

Add Frank Ocean (never played) , Anderson.Paak &The Free Nationals (new album produced by Dre is going to be HUGE. Enough for 6 on the list and a headlining slot), and Childish ( I could see him doing just ONE weekend next year as an "apology" for missing this year.

Metallica was the second most pack set I saw on Friday/Saturday of Weekend 1. Obviously Paul was the most packed. But it's not like Metallica wasn't full. I guess it falls off in comparison on Week 2? They didn't sell that one out, correct?

I think GnR probably has broader appeal than Metallica for a festival crowd. Like, Metallica are probably the bigger touring machine, but I'd guess GnR probably have more female fans.
It was packed early, but there was no post opposite headliner rush like I remember there being for Jay, Radiohead, Paul, and by 945 it wasn't dense at all. I was pretty surprised.
It may have just been Paul colored glasses, because I could also tell during the days Sat/Sun that there were significantly less people camping the main stage.
