I know it's Shaky Knees and not Coachella but those headliners / top two lines seem kinda weak
Remember, anyone that is much of a "get" for Coachella this year wouldnt be allowed to be announced by Shaky Knees now. Have to think that some of the Coachella second and third line gets will be at Boston Calling
Welp, now that we have a better idea of who's touring around May:
Kanye West | Twenty One Pilots | Tame Impala Vampire Weekend | The 1975 | A$AP Rocky Big Red Machine | Greta Van Fleet | Tash Sultana
I still don't understand the logic of Boston Calling booking The 1975 two years later, in basically the same spot, when they're playing Agganis 4-6 days later.
Big Red Machine and Tash probably wouldn't be that high. BC is bigger than Shaky and Tash is #10 there.
I have a feeling we'll get Incubus in the Paramore/Weezer spot

Only because the 1975 is immensely popular, the agganis date is already sold out, and because in a vid on instagram promoting the 2019 festival, they had a 1975 song in the background.
I don't like them at all, but i can totally see them making a return, given how RTJ came back two years later as well.
I really hope you aren't right about Incubus though, would much rather have Beck.
This is the worst Shaky Knees lineup in the last few years, right? I know that's mostly subjective, but it just doesn't seem that good compared to their last 3-4 years.
My big question: Is Tame Impala really big enough to headline festivals now? Yes, something like Shaky Knees is smaller, but they're the #1 overall (where Jack White was on their lineup last year.) I had pictured them being in the Bon Iver/The National/The xx/QOTSA slot at BC, but if they're #1 overall at SK then they could conceivably be a legit headliner...? Maybe/hopefully I'm reading into the poster placement a little too much.
That being said, there's some good undercard bands here that hopefully play BC if this is an indication of them doing the festival circuit. (Again very subjective, but) I'd love to have FJM back, Grouplove and Dashboard could be fun in the right setting, and I'm really hoping we get The Joy Formidable, Foxing, and Low Cut Connie.

I think the lineup is fine, Incubus is pretty bad, but other than that there's a lot of meat in that undercard and Beck is awesome. If I lived close I would probably go.

Tame Impala are most likely done playing festival gigs where they're not headlining.
That means that either BC grabs them this year as a lighter #3, or they wait until 2020 where they'll be an unquestionable headliner. The latter seems like the smart move for both parties, especially if it means Tame play their own headlining show in Boston in 2019, something they haven't done since March 2013.
But yes, imo they're a headliner or they don't play.
I get that Jack White is a bigger draw, but in 2019, I’d rather see Tame Impala than Jack White. Them as a #1 at a regional fest isn’t crazy. Hell, The XX was #1 there in 2016.

Shaky Knees billing is often off to help artists take the extra step. The xx wasn’t bigger than LCD in 2017.

Agreed that if this is the case then they should wait a couple of years. I really like Tame Impala, but they'd definitely be the smallest/lightest headliner of the new BC. I think they'd do an Agganis show on a headline tour, (again, similar to QOTSA and other bands that were second-row lineup names,) and I don't think it would sell out anywhere near as fast as The 1975 did. Honestly I wouldn't be that surprised if their Boston show was at the Pavilion, though I do think that would sell out fairly quickly. Ultimately, I'm hoping they're on the lineup in the #4 spot, but I'm not optimistic about it happening that way.
