Probably mostly Bonnaroo rumor run-off. He's a popular artist that wouldn't look too out of place on a Boston Calling lineup.
I take some comfort thinking that he doesn't quite seem like someone they'd tap as a headliner though and he wouldn't be booked much lower than that at BC

Darn, both the Hives and refused are out for this. No Boston show, but also booked the entire weekend. Unless they fly from from UT to MA to do BC on Sunday the 26th, then back to Vegas to play Monday on Memorial Day, uh it seems really unlikely :/
Hate the Foos but can we please get The Hives? I get they're doing a 4-day fest in Vegas the same weekend but stranger the Killers did Bottlerock and BC back to back Friday/Saturday, so it could happen and it would be GREAT methinks
Don't know if this was addressed later in the thread, but The Hives have dates out west all three days, so it's not happening.
Which is fine with me. They're OK, but I can name 100 rock bands I'd rather see in the lineup.
Tame Impala isn't top line at Boston Calling, and they'll almost certainly have a woman or person of color in one of the headlining spots, anyway.
I can't see them putting Post Malone in a headlining spot this year, after Eminem last year. Many people judge the diversity of the lineup based upon its top line, and there are half a dozen African-American rap/hip hop acts who are as big of a draw or bigger than Malone (Kendrick, Childish, Kayne/KSG, Jay-Z, Drake, Travis Scott) to put in that spot.

If Jack White can be top line, then Tame Impala can be as well.
And the whole "we must need an African American rapper to headline" thing will fly out of the window if A) the above names are not available, and B) Post Malone will sell equal amount of tickets.

Jack White gets headliner billing largely on status. Tame Impala do not have that status. I'm still penciling them in for 2020 headliner though.
Also looks like we have a decent shot of getting Shame, so that's solid! Some U.S. dates in May have started to pop up
Why would Tame Impala be able to headline in 2020 but not in 2019?
I never get this logic. Would figure you’d rather get the band early before they get stale on the new album
Exactly, and for all we know, Tame Impala pulls a Phoenix and has their new album flop in 2019, which would reduce their chances to headline the subsequent year. Better to go all in right away before word of mouth spreads about the quality (whether good or bad), similar to what Arctic Monkeys did this year.

Because I think the new album is what they need to get them to headliner level and until they start putting out new music, that album remains a massive unknown.

If the album is bad I don't want them to headline
Because then most of their set would consist of songs from two bad albums

Using 2018 as an example, AM’s album flopped but the excitement of a new album and the unknown of it drove sales for Firefly, instead of hindering them

I'd argue AM were/are a bigger band than Tame Impala.
I definitely don't think it's out of the question Tame headline, but I'm expecting and hoping that they do not.
And if they headline and the album's not out by then (it probably won't be), then I'd view that as an underwhelming booking

Are we talking "headliner level" in terms of back catalog, or potential ticket sales? Because Currents is widely beloved despite the haters, and the band is most definitely going to play big venues upon their next album tour which would also entail big festivals.

If all of those names are unavailable, they go for Rihanna, Madonna, Ariana Grande, or another female performer.
I'd bet any amount of money that we will not see three headlining acts consisting primarily or exclusively of white men, regardless of genre.

Again, it's depending on availability, and most of those big pop names tend to prefer arena tours and the type of productions that those allow for (Sia being the one big exception).
And the push against headlining acts consisting primarily or exclusively of white men isn't as big as people make it out to be (regardless of whether it's justified or not), despite all the loudmouths on Twitter/WBUR/DigBoston.
Arctic Monkeys are so boring, I will never understand how they’re headliners at ANY festiva
Yeah the one time I saw them nearly a decade ago was pretty dull. But the fifth album was catchy AF so it's understandable that it made them headliners in America.
All this hate for AM makes me sad lol t. massive Arctic Monkeys fan since SIAS came out
I can see where people would think they're a little boring, especially recently, but I also love them. Wouldn't be mad at all if they headlined, although I highly doubt they will since 21P seems almost definitely confirmed and I would imagine they're the "rock" headliner. (My money is still on the other headliners being Florence and one of Gambino/Kanye/Kendrick/etc)
By my count, we only overlapped 4 acts last year and like 6-8 the year before that. Still, worth speculating...
Interesting that it looks like they're going with 6 smaller-ish headliners instead of 3 heavy hitters, outside of Travis Scott who headlines real things these days. I guess it spreads out the demand/crowd demographic a little..? I don't expect BC to do this, though it would explain bumping up the artist count to 50 by having dueling headliners.
This makes me lean toward Travis Scott being a headliner at BC. Personally, I think he's garbage and would muchhhh prefer Kendrick/Gambino/Kanye/etc, but it feels like we're getting him.
Would rather see Vampire Weekend do a headline show, but since they seem to be doing the festival circuit, I'm really pulling for them as a really strong #4 on the lineup.
While i wouldn't ever pay for a Kygo headline show, i think if he was in a Major Lazer sort of slot, it could be a lot of fun. Not expecting that to happen, though. He's probably too big.
I'd imagine we could get some combo of Jimmy Eat World, Hozier, Walk The Moon, Jungle, Bishop Briggs, and ARIZONA
Lower names I'm really hoping for: Sofi Tukker, Gang Of Youths, The Band Camino

Vampire Weekend and Shame are pretty much the only artists I'd like us to get.
Top 5 predictions though: Travis Scott Vampire Weekend Jimmy Eat World Ravyn Lenae Shame
