This year was the first year I've missed since the first one and it just didn't feel right. Might just start going regardless of the lineup to visit Boston.
Platinum early bird now sold out, all others going fast, according to Boston Calling tweet.
It took a little willpower, but I resisted the temptation to make a blind purchase again this year. For one thing, if I like the lineup enough, I may go VIP and if I'm not crazy about it, I may do one-day.
The relatively narrow gap between early bird and full face value pricing in 2018 also discouraged me from the early bird this year.
I got anxious after missing this year and bought in on next year's presale.
I have a feeling I will probably regret this once I see tickets $25 cheaper on StubHub the week before, or a mediocre lineup.
tbh the 25 dollars cheaper the week before is probably less valuable than buying now. saves a lot of peace of mind, as someone who buys on stubhub late for a lot of shows
This may have to be my festival next year. This and BC have had consistently strong lineups IMO.
Interpol* Modern Baseball* The Strokes* Gorillaz* Father John Misty (last played in fall 2015) Sky Ferreira (last played fall 2014) Passion Pit @ Vampire Weekend (assuming they'll be everywhere next year)@ Japandroids* Amy Shark* The Cure* Frankie Cosmos* Sunflower Bean* Preoccupations* Lucius @ Jeff Rosenstock*
I'd be happy if any of these acts showed up. Purely specilation.
* - never played Boston Calling, at least accoridng to Wikipedia. @- haven't played since fall 2013.
Lil Uzi Vert - Guided By Voices - Rae Sremmurd - Margo Price - TV On The Radio - Jean Grae & Quelle Chris - Jeff Rosenstock - Billie Eilish - Speedy Ortiz - Lil Yachty - Curtis Harding - Calexico - Grizzly Bear - Sunflower Bean - Playboi Carti - The Lemon Twigs - Steve Lacy - Fucked Up - Kamasi Washington - Brent Cobb - Natalie Prass - Sunwatchers - Hinds - Downtown Boys - IDK - Moor Mother - Gus Dapperton - Shilpa Ray - CupcakKe - Yaeji - Little May - Luluc - Amber Mark - Cuco - Carissa Johnson - Avenue
Arena Comedy - Adult Swim All-Stars w/ Eric Andre, Live Mostly 4 Millennials episode w/ Derrick Beckles, Joe Pera, screening of unreleased Rick & Morty episode, etc. - Bill Burr - Jerrod Carmichael
Arena Earlier in the Day - Daily Conan O'Brien thing (this year's Harvard grad curation), Marc Maron WTF podcast, another couple of podcasts.
(Some of this is personal wishlist, but a lot of it is based upon whom they've booked in the past, this past edition's rap/R&B vs. guitar rock mix, and how headliners influence the rest of each day's lineup. There are quite a few acts listed above whom I couldn't care less about, juxtaposed with acts I'd be thrilled to see in the lineup.)
Some further predictions...
Blondie subheadlines for Rhianna, Wu-Tang subs for Gambino, Sturgill subs for Stapleton. On Rihanna or Gambino day, there will be an indie rock blue stage run with Hinds > Shilpa Ray > Speedy Ortiz > The Lemon Twigs > Guided By Voices > Pavement. On Stapleton day, there will be a Green/Red run of Little May > Brent Cobb > Grizzly Bear > Calexico > Margo Price > Sturgill Simpson > Chris Stapleton. Rocker Carissa Johnson and rapper Avenue will be this edition's "rising Boston acts" who open Green on Sat and Sun.

Lucius was a late substitution for another act in one of the 2014 or 2015 editions. I remember seeing them do an afternoon Red Stage set on City Hall Plaza, after the Red Stage had been moved after 2013, so that it was facing City Hall.
Definitely, as long as there are plans to do any sort of live performances in that time frame. If everyone's available and interested, Boston Calling and Eaux Claires are a lock.
Of course, any of them could be involved in something else at any given point in time, given the number of projects each seems to juggle.
I went. It was everything we could have hoped for in his farewell tour. Great setlist and great band.
Unfortunately, I was surrounded by people who couldn't stop talking, especially during the gentler string/horn quintet-ish songs. One of the women was hilarious; during Homeward Bound, when the rear screen video showed memorabilia from his career, an early-70's tour poster caused her to yell, "1973?" When she saw the price on an old Paul Simon ticket, she yelled "Seven dollars?!?!?" Act like you've been there before, lady.

Gotta tell these people to keep it down, man.
I told them to "Shut the quack up,' and they reported me to the usher, who had security call me out into the concourse and lecture me on the importance of not using the word "quack" in the arena, since that language is not allowed at TD Garden. I told them that people need to have a sense of the moment at concerts and keep it down during the quieter acoustic songs.
Really, there's a way to talk to your companion at a concert which doesn't bother people around you. Lean over and speak very close to their ear. It's when people are trying to talk over the music, so they'll be heard by their companion, and just project their louder-than-usual volume in their companion's general direction that they bother others in the area.

I would bet on Sturgill at Boston Calling 2019. He was last here just under a year ago, he played very few shows in 2018 and not many more in 2017. He last played Boston Calling before A Sailor's Guide. He should have new music in the next year or so.
