Day 1: 21P (Green) > Odesza (Red) with Paak on Blue Day 2: T. Scott (Green) > Logic (Red) with Hozier on Blue Day 3: Tame (Green) > GVF (Red) with Janelle Monae on Blue
i really hope marina and hozier aren’t on the same stage as 21 pilots because i want good spots for them and i know people will be camping all day to see TOP

Ideal situation would be if paak and hozier were switched. Also i think GVF has a chance of closing blue. probably on Travis' night. since paramore did so last year despite being in the top 6.

Checked out every act with which I was unfamiliar on YouTube and here's what I'll be catching, unless conflicts arise:
Tame Impala Anderson .Paak Hozier Janelle Monáe Brandi Carlile Big Red Machine Black Star Mitski Snail Mail Gang Of Youths Pile Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Skegss Adia Victoria
...with the rest of the weekend spent in the arena (and the rest of the summer spent at the House of Blues and Blue Hills Bank Pavilion catching everyone I wish they had booked, but didn't.)
they extended their first day of special pricing. there's no way this is selling well.
personally, i only had 1 friend text me about this yesterday. in previous years its been more like 5 or 6.
To me, this is great news. It suggests that they now know that they've leaned too far in the direction of pop/hip hop/EDM (and less than inspiring rock acts) and could very well add end up replacing the inevitable dropout or two with something that may bring more balance to the lineup.
Poor sales will almost certainly lead to more rock and Americana next year (which probably won't do me any good, since there's a strong possibility I'm moving out of state at the end of this year). It may also cause them to rethink their practice of bringing back repeat acts as often as they do or booking headliners who played the Garden within the previous 10 months or so. That's fine when you've got to fill 6 or more stages, or you've got as many fests as Chicago or L.A., but as the sole big festival in Boston, they need to consider more headliners like Tool or Eminem who hadn't played the market in years.
Even people outside of the area who like this lineup a lot may not think that it's unique enough to warrant a trip here for Boston Calling. If there's a similar lineup closer to home, why travel hundreds or thousands of miles when a lot of the same acts are playing a closer festival?

Nah, poor sales will just lead to the festival not happening again.
If a restaurant changes its menu and sales drop off, wouldn't you simply go back to something resembling the previous menu before taking the more drastic step of closing the restaurant altogether?

the stakes are so much higher here than a restaurant.
as bad as 3 days are selling now. i definitely think TOPs day will sell out given how fast the td garden show sold out. i think the travis and tame days may struggle though.
The Madison Square Garden company has ample cash flow.
So does Goldenvoice and you don't see them throwing money at a losing fest such as Panorama this year.
MSG chief James Dolan has never been one to let a good business decision get in the way of ego gratification (See the NY Knicks). Check out any MSG Co. press release, and you'll notice the "about the company" footer at the end of the press release prominently mentions Boston Calling. He's one of those moguls who doesn't want to be perceived as a failure.
I suspect that Dolan's response to one really bad year would be throwing big money at big names the following year.
If AEG/Goldenvoice shuts down one of their festivals -- and not even their biggest festival -- it's just another day at the office for the second largest concert and festival promoter in the U.S.

I don't know about that, I imagine that the following conversation is happening in a lot of homes...
"Mom, Dad, can you take me to Boston Calling to see Twenty One Pilots?"
--"Didn't we just take you to see them at TD Garden a few months ago?"
"But Mom, it's Blurryface!!"
--"Is this the exact same show we just took you to?"
...and so forth.

When I was a kid, I asked my parents to take me to see The Monkees at the Rochester War Memorial in Rochester, NY. They said yes.
Not long after, we were in the toy section of a local department store and my parents offered to buy me anything I wanted in the department instead of seeing The Monkees. Never one for delayed gratification, I went for the offer.
That may have been the tour that Jimi Hendrix opened before he became massively famous, by the way.

Parents suck.
1st of all, what Katy Mae said. I know a lotta people who like them that are my age (20-21) who have disposable income so that myth is false. 2nd, their arena tour sold out nearly instantly and tix on the secondary market were like 150 for balcony so I think theyre still gonna be a huge draw. Honestly as much as I disliked them, after listening to Trench I've warmed up to them a lot. Much better than Blurryface which i thought was garbage. I do think we should have gotten someone like A$AP Rocky instead of Logic though. Such a bland booking. And would have much preferred Kanye to Travis. But the undercard and top lines have enough to give me something I wanna see all day and that's what really matters at a festival.
It's kind of crazy to think that a sold out Garden show is still only (roughly) half the capacity of the festival. I wouldn't be so sure about any single day selling out. Has any day sold out the last 2 years? (Admittedly I don't think i've paid much attention to stuff like that.)
