It's kind of crazy to think that a sold out Garden show is still only (roughly) half the capacity of the festival. I wouldn't be so sure about any single day selling out. Has any day sold out the last 2 years? (Admittedly I don't think i've paid much attention to stuff like that.)
VIP and Platinum single days sold out for the day Eminem played, but not GA.
Eminem day was probably the closest it's come to a sell out.
Friday Lord Huron Gang of Youths GVF(maybe) Christine and the Queens Guster(maybe, listed on site) Turnstile Shame
Saturday
Sunday Logic Dessa GVF(maybe)
did some digging and these are the most likely days artists will be playing on due to tour dates
Been playing around with different setups using this.
If these hold i think it's gonna be something like:
Fri: Lord Huron (Green) > GVF/Hozier (Red) > Twenty One Pilots (Green) Christine > Janelle Monae on the blue
Sat: Hozier/Brandi Carlile (Green) > ODESZA (Red) > Tame Impala (Green) Black Star > Anderson Paak on blue
Sun: Sheck Wes (Green) > Logic (Red) > Travis Scott (Green) Big Red Machine > Brandi Carlile/GVF on blue
I have a feeling on them pairing Tame and ODESZA
god that saturday would be awful conflict wise. those are all artists id want to see. Osheaga paired Travis and Odesza last year so I'm hoping BC does the same

As long as Paak would have little to no overlap with Tame I'd be cool with it. No problem skipping Hozier and ODESZA. If it was Brandi I'd be more conflicted.
Janelle/Paak/Brandi closing the Blue is best case scenario for me. Wouldn't be surprised to see GVF or Hozier take one of those spots though.

i feel like GVF will close blue against Travis. makes the most sense to me. ideally anderson paak would close blue against top for me.

GVF's tour dates do seem to point more towards Sunday than Friday.
Probably right about them against Travis which is a bummer. That's a shit way to end the fest. guess I'll be heading out very early that day.
Don't think it's what we'll get, but in that case I'd really love Paak pre-hl for Tame and ODESZA for TOP, with Hozier and Janelle closing blue respectively

I'd be very surprised if Hozier doesn't close Blue, preceded by Brandi Carlile, because neither of them really fits as Red subheadliners to any of the Green closers, and people who like one of them would likely want to see the other, compared to what's happening at the other end of the grounds. I do agree that ODESZA could easily subhead for Tame Impala. Both acts focus strongly upon sonic atmospherics and it would work. Big Red Machine -> ODESZA -> Tame Impala makes sense.
GVF really doesn't fit into this lineup at all and it will be interesting to see where they place them. They would have fit perfectly into last year's lineup on the Green stage, right before QOTSA and Jack White, but unless Get The Led Out, Led Zeppelin 2, and Lez Zeppelin are added to the lineup, they really don't fit alongside anything else going on. Might as well put them on Red right before 21P. That's no stranger than Major Lazer on Red before Tool, or The XX before Mumford.
If there's a betting line, I'm putting my money on Hozier, Monet, and .Paak to close the Blue stage.

If GVF are on red before TOP I think Hozier’s most likely spot is before them on Green, but could also see that going to Lord Huron.
Also worth noting 3 and 4 on the lineup have been paired the last two years, which bolsters the Tame/Odesza idea. So the options to pre-HL with TOP are GVF, Hozier, and Paak, of which GVF seem the best pick.
As for Brandi, every artist in the top 10 the last two years has been on the main 2 stages or closed the blue. Probably not a hard and fast rule, but I’d really love her closing the blue on Sunday so I have some reason to stay.

You're right, every artist on top two lines the last two years has been on the main 2 stages or closed Blue, but none of them have been lower than Red subheadliner. So, Hozier's more likely to close Blue one night than Carlile. Hozier/Carlile is this years Fleet Foxes/Decemberists.

Hozier just feels like a better fit playing second to last on green than closing blue to me. Either one seems possible.
If Blue closers are Paak/Hozier/Janelle do you see the main stages looking like this?
Lord Huron > ODESZA > Tame Sheck Wes > Logic > Travis Rainbow Kitten Surprise > GVF > TOP

IMHO, it seems like Lord Huron, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and Big Red Machine could all be acts which lead into Tame Impala on Green/Red before ODESZA or lead up to Hozier/Carlile on Blue. With both TOP and Tame, there aren't obvious acts that sound tremendously like them to lead up to them, so who knows? Remember how surprised everyone was when Weezer was on Blue and Major Lazer on Red before Tool, when everyone figured that they'd go with the rock band on Red before Tool.
I wouldn't be surprised if Logic subheadlined on Red before TOP, since both have that non-gangster positivity rap thing going on, but then where do you put GVF?

According to his website, Hozier is Friday night. (If I recall correctly, Hozier also jumped the gun on his site with his specific Boston Calling date in 2015).
I checked the sites of all of the top two lines and no one else had a single date listed for Boston Calling, so there's not a lot of clarity to be had right now on the headliner and subheadliner schedule.
I'm still curious about this mysterious (potential) unannounced 50th artist... Is it even a real thing? Why hold back just 1 addition instead of a couple? Makes me think that it's artist-specific rather than wanting to add a little hype from an addition in a month or so. I imagine it would be either that the artist already has a Boston show that they're waiting to pass (yes, Paak and Guster were announced in the same situation but i guess there's different contracts/clauses with different artists/venues/promoters?), or it's someone who hasn't announced that they're even touring yet and doesn't want a festival to ruin the news. (The dark horse possibility is that the 50th was Kanye, but i don't think that's true. The darker horse possibility is they'll have a surprise unannounced set like at Newport Folk, but there's no chance they would do that unless this thing sells out way in advance which it won't.)
So who could it be? Kacey Musgraves playing the Wang in 3 days...? Mo is at HoB on Sunday, and has a song with Snakehips that could spark a guest appearance if they were same day...? I haven't cross-checked schedules, but there are a ton of February shows here with people that would fit into the lineup. Coin, Action Bronson, Metric, Andrew McMahon, James Blake, The Knocks, Arkells, Vince Staples, etc...
Orrrr maybe they're going to do some sort of local opener contest for the last spot... which is probably the case and way less fun or interesting than speculating who the late addition could be, so it's probably definitely that.

haha well yeah, i know... but why say 50 instead of 49?
It sounds better. Also we have Imogen Heap in the arena, which you could also argue bumps it to 50
Fred Armisen has a couple of musician characters in his repertoire and since he's not a stand-up per se, he could very well be doing some music as part of his act (as he and Carrie B. did at the wonderful Portlandia show I saw at Berklee some years ago.)

If he does Ian Rubbish and I miss it I’ll be very bummed
