Hmmmm.....maybe a Saturday day pass for Tame, Odesza, and Big Red Machine. If only I could have gotten either Black Star or Janelle Monae on that Saturday list it'd be perfect for me.
I finally listened to "Mo Bamba." There's a voice my wife does when she's making fun of me for doing or saying something stupid...and that is exactly what that song sounds like.

Definitely want to make Friday and Saturday work. Hopefully Ravyn Lenae does an after show. Just give me a run of something like Yaeji > Tank and the Bangas > Black Star > Janelle pleaseee.
*Very unhappy with what appears to be a Green Stage pre-sub slot for Hozier. Didn't they learn from 2015? However big he is in the U.S. in general, he's twice as big in Boston, due to the large number of Irish ex-pats here. (I'm hoping that the overlap is between .Paak and Odesza -> Tame Impala, not Hozier and .Paak).
*To my tastes, Sunday is incredibly weak. I'd like to see Brandi Carlile, if there was someone after her whom I'd like to see, but I'm likely heading out after Michael Che, if I get in to see him, or headed out after Guster, if I can't. At least, I can get to sleep early on Sunday night and do fun stuff around town on Monday.
*It seems fairly obvious who's in the Green/Red leapfrog portion of the lineup each day and who's on Blue. I'm surprised that they're going with a rock track on Green/Red on Friday, considering that 21P are a rap act.

Saturday single-day pass, here I come. I was really hoping one, or some combination, of Janelle Monae, Christine & the Queens, and Black Star would end up on Tame Impala day, but I'm not mad about seeing ODESZA, .Paak, Big Red Machine, and Mitski.

Nearly my exact thoughts. +Mitsky, Paak, Denzel Curry, and Imogen Heap. Idk that I'm gonna drive up to Boston just for a day, but depending on the schedule I'd consider it.

Agreed on the first part, although they may throw some curveballs, especially with the electronic bookings.
While they rap a lot, Twenty One Pilots are definitely viewed as more of a modern rock act. Their fanbase is more in line with The 1975/Panic!/X Ambassadors side of things

Whoa, I missed that Imogen Heap is on Saturday as well as Sunday. Fucking awesome.
Somehow the daily splits make me think i'm hitting worst case scenarios on potential conflicts. For not loving the lineup in the first place, running into a couple big schedule conflicts is going to really put a damper on the whole thing.
Friday is pretty solid, though I'm worried about conflicts in the middle of the day if i'm trying to see GOY, Mura Masa, Christine, Tank, Lord Huron, and Black Star.
Saturday, I'm a big fan of the top 3 names and then not a single one after that, which may actually make it weaker than Sunday. The real issue is that Paak is going to conflict with Odesza and/or Tame Impala, which really really sucks. I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope that maybe Hozier closes Blue and Paak can be before Odesza on Green, but it's looking unlikely.
Sunday is super weak at the top, but I want to see all 6 names from RKS through Snail Mail in the middle, which means inevitable tough conflicts.

They're a rap version of an emo band (or visa versa).
I could see a punk pop band a subheadliner acting as a bridge between more traditional rock & roll and 21P, but the genre switch from GVF to 21P seems kind of abrupt.

Genre switch maybe but I bet there's a ton of overlap in fanbase

There definitely is. Also greta van fleet sold out 2 nights at the house of blues last year and resale was like 200 for upper mezz seats so they'll definitely have massive crowd. I personally dislike them and dont plan on seeing them but they have a pretty big fanbase.

Those genres switches are super common on main stages of festivals. Which especially sucks if the crowd for the headliner is messing with the show of the subheadliner.
This daily breakdown makes this festival look really bad. Like really bad.
But i will be there on Saturday.
What really underscores your opinion, for me, is a little experiment I tried.
I thought of second and third line acts from last year in whom I had only mild interest and they, for me, would be the best or second best act of the day in this year's lineup. I'm not a huge fan of Fleet Foxes, Tyler, the Creator, or QOTSA, but drop any of them into this year's lineup and they'd be a highlight.
I'd take any of Sept 2014, May 2015, or Sept 2015 over 2019, despite the fact that each of those editions had fewer than half as many musical performers.
having slightly more hope that on Saturday it'll go
Green: Anderson .Paak > Tame Impala Red: Big Red Machine > Odesza Blue: King Princess > Hozier
Given that last year Fleet Foxes was 4th on their day and they closed blue despite that on every other day, the 3rd closed blue. the most likely day of that happenening seems to be saturday because it'd make zero sense for Lord Huron and Sheck Wes to close blue. Given the fanbases of the headliners having a ton of overlap

Would also be very supportive of this. Hopefully it'd also lead to the main stages being more diverse throughout the day.
What I'm most confused by is why there's no electronic artists except ODESZA on saturday.
seems weird they'd book so much more of it than past years and still leave their top electronic name alone on their day.
