Florence + the Machine just announced a Mansfield show on 5/30. I guess I prefer Tame Impala but the fact that they’ve yet to book her for this fest is mind boggling

Yeah I was very surprised she wasn't booked. But honestly this scenario is better, at least for me. Since Tame Impala tours so little and mostly does festivals I doubt they would have hit Boston otherwise.

I just still kind of wish they’d waited until next year when their album will be out and they’ll be playing that set. Everyone points out how good they had gotten by the end of the last tour. I have a feeling the same thing will play out this round. 2020/21 Tame shows will be a step or two above what we get this year

its also a live nation tour so that might have been a factor

I’m sure they’ll be back once the album is out. Maybe around their rumored Gov Ball spot in 2020. I’m not sure why they only had one Boston date for Currents when they played Boston three times for the Lonerism tour.

I was wondering that too. due to their popularity in Boston they could easily sell out TD Garden. and without a doubt theyd sell out Agganis.

Doesn't make it less disappointing that Boston Calling has now booked them twice for (most likely) pre-album shows

I know this will end up being a pre album show but I really think it wasnt supposed to be, and if not for the malibu fires the album would be done by now

You think the approximately 1 or 2 days it took him to relocate pushed the album back months?

I see no reason to think losing thousands in gear, your recording studios, and displacing a massive percentage of the US based sound producers for months would only be a 1 or 2 day break

Tame Impala makes interesting music, but they're not exactly compelling live performers. Not a bad midday act or subheadliner, by any means, but they are a little...tame onstage, I daresay.

I thought they were breathtaking and better than Beck in 2015 and their Panorama set vids looks incredible. if their new shows are better than that then theyre more than qualified to be headliners imo.

Some music calls for high energy performances, Tame Impala’s music does not. Either way I’ll take good music and a good light show over whatever Twenty One Pilots is doing.

Yeah totally agree with you there. Having their only Boston performances in the past five years only at Boston Calling is also meh, though I enjoyed traveling to see them in 2016.

As someone who felt my mind literally melt out of my ears, reform into human shape, and dance next to me at their 2017 Panorama performance, allow me to say...wut?

Don't worry, this isn't even close to the worst opinion tw12 has voiced in this thread

Not sure if it's 100% the fire's fault, but I agree that when they booked they probably thought the album would be out before the show (and probably before Coachella.) The chances of that happening seem slim, which makes me even more angry about the booking. They would've been better next year. Oh well.

This is what I'm saying.
And I don't really mean to seem too down on the booking, because even if I shit on Currents and Tame as a live band this show will still be fantastic and I'll likely enjoy just about every second of it. But if the new album is great and we only get 2 or 3 songs from it then I think it would've been better to get Florence this year and Tame next.

For what it's worth, y'all, I just watched the Facebook Live video stream the founder and booker for Shaky Knees did yesterday, and during the segment when he was talking about artists on the bill who'll have new albums come festival time, he said something along the lines of Tame Impala maybe/probably not having a new record out by then, but that there will be new music. Not "might." And that festival precedes Boston Calling by a good three weeks.
So...yeah. I don't know if you can take that to the bank, but he sounded pretty confident.

That reminds me of what happened when I saw Little Feat in Cleveland in the late 70's. I caught a ride to the show with one of the editors from my college paper, who was our journalism school's own Hunter S. Thompson. He, and his friend who was driving, started eating peyote as we got close to downtown.
The show was great and I turned in what I thought was a well-written and insightful review to the entertainment editor of our college paper.
Much to my surprise, they didn't run my review. Instead, they ran a review written by the Hunter Thompson-knockoff who talked about how the sounds turned into colorful spheres and hung suspended in mid-air and so forth.
Only I, and the author, knew that it wasn't really the music that had been reviewed. It was his peyote trip.

The Smiths/Oasis/Talking Heads for Boston Calling 2020
There's an 80%-90% chance I'm moving to Portland, OR in Nov or Dec of this year.
If that happens, you just know that next year's Boston Calling lineup will be filled with acts I love, and you just know that I'll be complaining about that fact here, big time.
