In a nutshell, there seem to be fewer food vendors and less variety than in previous years. The cookie dough and donut vendors are gone, although the addition of Sweet Cheeks BBQ is a plus, giving the festival both of Boston's premiere upscale BBQ restaurants (Yes, The Smoke Shop is back.)
Mostly, expect the same vendors you've seen in the past.

Only going Saturday, so pretty happy that it's by far the strongest day, but I was pretty bummed last night when I realized King Princess was not Maya Rudolph's Prince cover band. Anyway, has anyone seen Big Red Machine live before?

Interesting development...I got an e-mail from Front Gate Tickets featuring the posters of various fests they're handling, and there's a one-day rap festival in the Twin Cities on Sunday, May 26 and Black Star is listed as performing.
Odd that they'd be available for a festival on Sunday, but not on Friday. Plenty of performers have done Boston Calling and Sasquatch/Bottlerock in the same weekend, which is a greater distance.
Yeah just looking at .Paaks stage production at Coachella I'm pretty certain he's going to close the blue stage. Boston Calling usually doesnt have more elaborate stage shows like that unless the act is closing a stage. like ODESZA, Haim, Tyler, The Creator, and Khalid are all main stage coachella artists that closed various other stages at Boston Calling.
My guess is Big Red Machine red > Hozier green > Odesza red > Tame Impala green with Anderson .Paaks set closing blue staggered between Odesza and Tame Impala

That’d be such a bad move it’s hard to overstate but whatever. I’m pretty down on this fest since Janelle dropped.

Yeah it'd be a horrible move on their part but i wouldnt put it past them. This year definitely killed my desire to get super early bird presale like i usually do every year.

hes not gonna have Coachella production at BC
Maybe not exactly. But he's used that platform on all of his regular tour dates as well and i have a feeling they won't want to build it up and break it down on a stage he isnt closing. Then again, maybe they will. I'm sure it wont be on the same scale as Coachella but it doesnt seem as minimalist as Hozier's will be. I'm not a Hozier fan by any means and 8'd prefer him to close blue. I just don't wanna see .Paak fans get their hopes up and have their dreams crushed.
No way. It's 95% certain that I'm moving to Portland, OR in December and, with Murphy's Law in full effect, I'm going to like the Boston Calling 2020 top line a whole lot more than I like that one. (I can't see Donald Glover doing festivals two summers in a row with his work schedule and isn't he retiring from music soon, anyway?)
In all seriousness though, if the lack of an act with older and/or wider appeal like The Killers, Mumford, or Tool this year leads to disappointing ticket sales this year, why would they double-down on acts which appeal only to a very young audience like Malone and Eilish? One of them, sure, but the complete lack of an established hit maker who's been all over the radio for years is a mistake they won't make again if passes sell poorly this year.

I'm just setting the bar extremely low so I won't be disappointed. It'll probably be more like Foo Fighters - Post Malone - The Lumineers something very safe and appealing to a younger audience. you just know theyre gonna take cues from mad decent because of all the positive reception of it. Ive seen a ton of people in comments saying they're going to that instead of BC.

What I'm hoping is that rather than trying to steal and compete with Mad Decents crowd, they go a more indie/alternative route like Osheaga did.
Doesn't Mad Decent do a different city every year, though?
If Mad Decent is in Dallas or Miami or Las Vegas next year, for example, Boston Calling won't be completing with them for the festival dollars of people in this part of the country. You've got locals like me who only go to festivals in their immediate area, "one state over" people who will travel regionally within a few hundred miles, and people who'll go anywhere for the right lineup.
Boston Calling will likely only be competing for 2020 festival dollars with Mad Decent to the extent that they're competing with every festival in the world among people in the "go anywhere" category.

I never went to any of them but in past years it seems mad decent was a tour similar to warped, only with edm/hip hop. This year, however, is only Foxborough, and it's set up like a full blown music festival. Diplo didn't say whether or not it's annual and if so whether it'd be held here every year. It may stay in MA or it may move next year. Right now it's not clear but I'm gonna go ahead and guess that it's gonna remain in MA.

Just one per night at the Sinclair last year. Questlove, Oh Sees, and Cashmere Cat. Only Oh Sees actually played the fest, but I think Questlove's done something multiple years

Just hoping for Shame or Yaeji
I feel like there used to be more. RTJ late night at the Sinclair in 2015 was wild as hell. Bummer since there are so many venues they could utilize. Would love if Yaeji did one between me missing her Buku set, only doing Saturday, and (most of all) the fact that I could probably sell my girlfriend on going to that. Not a chance she'd do Shame LN as fun as that would be.

Are the wristbands going out later than usual this year? I seem to recall receiving mine over a month before the festival dates in the last few years, although I may be mistaken.
(Similarly, don't we usually have the daily schedule by now?)

Not sure exactly when wristbands started shipping, but they tweeted that they had started on 4/23 last year:

Actually, NPR has a interview and performance (or did they just play tracks off her EP?) that went up today.
Her music is actually pretty good, for 2019 pop, although I have no illusions that I'll be able to see Hozier, .Paak, Big Red Machine, KP, and Mitski, given the way they're listed sequentially on the poster. I think that doing three out of these five is realistic, with Hozier & Paak my #1 and #2 priorities, respectively.
