Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
If I don't like some act on the lineup, I'm not going to go on social media and start bitching about it. Just because I don't like it means that someone else won't see it. I have no desire whatsoever to see 21 Pilots. But there's a lot of people in the area that do, so let them have their fun.
If the lineup sucks and the event doesn't sell well, BC either adapts or folds. BC puts out a lineup that it feels it's diversified enough to draw a big enough crowd - it doesn't owe any individual person anything based upon their specific tastes.
I know GVF sounds like a Zeppelin ripoff. There's still gonna be a bunch of people there at their set. Depending on the schedule, I may check some of it out.
They owe majority owner James Dolan the biggest profits he can make from the event, and I don't think this lineup maximizes those profits. (It's not just the particular genre mix, but the specific artists they have representing each genre. A lot of these bookings feel like the third-best rapper, sixth-best indie rock band, or tenth-best Americana act they could have put into a particular lineup spot. I don't know enough about the alt-pop and EDM scenes to make that call for those genres.)
Where Boston Calling fails, as do a lot of mid-tier fests, is that they're not truly big enough to be "something for everyone" diverse while keeping everyone engaged and interested for three days. You need to have the 6 or more music stages of a Bonnaroo, Lolla, or ACL to provide enough variety for everyone.
The future of mid-tier festivals is a more narrowly drawn genre focus. Mad Decent, Newport Folk, and Camp Flog Gnaw, to name a few, book amazingly appealing lineups to people who like the general focus of each festival. They're not trying to be everything to everyone, so they're able to be great for a segment of music fans that's large enough to make their events profitable.
I don't think that festivals, on the whole, are dying, but genre-diverse mid-tiers may need to narrow their focus or close down.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you. I don't think it's curtains for genre-diverse mid-tiers, entirely - some have been around long enough to become institutions and weather a down year or two - but I do believe we'll see a significant culling over the next few years, along with a rise in smaller, more specifically curated festivals.

^I'm really hoping this is it. I would absolutely love to be able to see Mitski, Big Red Machine, .Paak, and Tame on Saturday. Mitski has really taken her show to a whole other level on this tour, and I would love to see her again. I'll be pretty pissed if they conflict .Paak and Big Red Machine, but other than that I'll figure it out.

*I can't see .Paak only doing an hour if he's headlining the Blue Stage. That scheduling looks like the wishful thinking of someone who wants to see both Tame Impala and .Paak in their entirety.
*Sunday seems to be the most obvious day to predict, and it's not what's listed in the Clashfinder. Blue Stage Sunday will almost definitely be:
Skeggs > Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever > Snail Mail > Guster > Rainbow Kitten Surprise > Brandi Carlile (Everyone else doing the alternating Green/Red thing)
Rock and Americana over here, Rap/EDM/Pop over there.

I haven't updated that in a bit, i agree with all of that though. I'm pretty set on Paak being on Green now
EDIT: Also I think other people have edited it. Gotta nip that in the bud
don't think we get the giant donut for Tame Impala from Coachella sadly. they havent had it on the previous tour dates and not at Shaky Knees either according to instagram posts so we can count it out for BC probably.
Friday: Turnstile > Mura Masa > Lord Huron > Christine & the Queens > CHVRCHES/TØP/Yaeji(gonna be fun arguing with the GF about that one)
Saturday: Sidney Gish > Pile > White Reaper > half of Shame > Half of Superorganism > Denzel Curry > Big Red Machine > Anderson .Paak > ODESZA > Tame Impala
Sunday: Skegss > RCBF > Ravyn Lenae > Snakehips > SOB X RBE > Marina > Sheck Wes > Logic > Travis Scott

No way I get my group over before 3, so: Shame > Denzel Curry > Big Red Machine > .Paak > ODESZA because I won't have a choice > Tame Impala. Damn solid day.
Friday still looks weak, but at least in the evening you got CATQ, Chvrches, and Yaeji back-to-back.
Big Red Machine on the red stage on Saturday is unfortunate (calling it: nobody will be paying attention). The blue stage would have been a better choice to separate the crowds. Solid day other than that.
Sunday is whack with Sheck Wes on the stage before the headliner, but we counted on that already.

not sure why you think the mitski crowd wouldn’t be into big Red Machine
I took a vacation day from work on that Friday, but now it looks like I can get most of that back. Probably only need to take an hour at the end of the day, at most.

I have a feeling a lot of folks at Mitski will hustle over for King Princess afterwards.

Well, Saturday worked out pretty much as well as I could have possibly hoped:
Pile > Betty Who > Shame/Superorganism split > Mitski > Big Red Machine > Anderson .Paak > ODESZA > Tame Impala
That’s a hell of a day. The only artist I care about that I can’t see at all is Denzel Curry, but I’ll be seeing him the following weekend at GovBall, so it’s all good.
