i figured Post would play but i had hope that they would have the decency to put him at four or five.
Panic headlining? that can not be forgiven.
that's pretty much how i feel. post and panic belong on the second line.
exactly. just bump them down a spot and fill them in with anyone halfway decent. Phoenix, The Strokes, Foo Fighters, Florence, even The Killers again if you fucking have to.
i swear to god every year i really underestimate how much i should lower my expectations.

the biggest difference for me this year vs previous years is previous years had a bunch of stuff no ones ever heard of, this year is filled with shit I actively dislike.

yep, was really hoping i was going to make it back this year, not so much. it's crazy how many bands have not played this fest yet, but they keep recycling the same undercard

This is what I keep coming back to. I actually had:
? (Green Day) - Travis Scott - Post Malone - Vampire Weekend
But
Travis Scott - Post Malone - Panic! At the Disco - Vampire Weekend
Is borderline insulting. It's almost as if they just assumed anyone over 25 wouldn't pay attention and they could just fart out Panic at Disco and we'd say "OKAY that's good enough!"

i didn't even know panic were still relevant before tonight :/
This shit might actually be worse than hangout just because this was gonna be bad but who knew it could be this bad. Hangout was unsurprisingly garbage
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Panic at the Disco is having this strange late-career resurgence among a crowd that was in kindergarten when the first album came out (which is a great pop-punk/emo album). Everything they’ve done since then has been dogshit but it appeals to the kids that like X Ambassadors and Imagine Dragons.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I just don’t get how you go from two of the best rappers ever and two of the best active alt rock bands to to this. Had a lot of these names on mocks but looking at it spread out by day doesn’t make that price justifiable. Even these Dad rock fest have two solid headliners (foos, Tool, System, Korn).
A Metallica, GnR, Springsteen, fuck even DMB would’ve worked.

There's a handful of great stuff on the undercard, but that has to be the worst top 3 ever booked by a festival of this size.
Other thoughts: 1) It's really weird seeing Vampire Weekend sandwiched between Post Malone and DJ Sanke. 2) At this point, I think Firefly is single-handedly keeping Awolnation financially afloat.

Strongly agree with the Awolnation comment.
Almost every single undercard alternative band is at this time, the blandest most boring fucking choice they could have gone with.
Walk the moon? Wow. 3rd Firefly. Their pop hit isn't that enjoyable. They were alright in 2012 but really didn't change much even after Shut Up and Dance. Which honestly I've heard so many times in bars and at college parties that I never want to hear it again.
Awolnation? Wow. 3rd Firefly. Still sailing along on... Sail? From like 2010? Again they were pretty good in 2012 (covered bulls on parade which kicked ass) and despite releasing one or two albums since then haven't had success at all. It's insulting how high up they're billed.
Young the giant? Wow. Pretty sure this is also their third Firefly. Are they even still releasing new music? Their fucking passé, irrelevant, that ship has long since sailed.
Death cab for cutie? Wow. Pretty sure it's there second or third Firefly. Not sure if they're even still making new music.
Vampire Weekend? 2nd Firefly. While I loved their set in 2013 and have been a fan since like 08, I'm not excited at all about this. They haven't done anything really since 2013, it will just be the same shit again, plus it's not even the original band, I know at least one person left.
UMO, Car Seat Headrest, and Naked Giants are so far about the only undercard alternative I haven't seen at Firefly that I would enjoy, and I've already seen UMO twice elsewhere.
It appears that "Emo nite" is just some dude playing "Emo" music from the mid 90's-mid 2000's. Not even remixes or mash ups, just plugging in an iPhone and pressing play on an "Emo" playlist. Like Firefly seriously fucking paid for that.
It's weird that they're trying to appeal to adults who used to be into "Emo" music. It sort of makes sense of and connects the random bullshit like Panic, Death cab, Dashboard, and a band featuring a dude from Paramore.
These are the types of post that are as common as water every year. Young the Giant and Death Cab both released new music and tits both very good. Hell, i’d consider Young the Giant headliner worthy. They’ve gotten better and better as the years go on. The lead singer is charasmatic as hell on stage.
Same with Ben Gibbard and talent wise. Death Cab is a band that will always sound fantastic live and they love playing different set lists.
I suggest listening to their recent music before you ignorantly post.
I completely agree with Awolnation. His recent music is bleh.
A lot of the undercard is great if you ask me. Im a 6 year ver at firefly and i have no problem with adjusting tk the new music. Chelsea Cutler, Quinn, Lovelytheband, Shaed, Hippo Campus, Joywave, Sir Sly, Arkells, Mansionair, a lot of the edm, VHS Collection, and two doses of andrew mcmahon, just to name a few, are a big reason why I am still excited about the lineup.
. I really dislike the headliners. I want to get that straight. Panic is very entertaining but in no way should they be a top spot with what recent music they released. TBH Vampire Weekend should be (since they are also releasing new music and have been consistent as hell). Im upset they couldnt get Cage to fill that spot or Scott/Malones spot.
That said, i have the most fun at undercard sets anyway. I suggest you listen to some of the music beforehand. Its one of my favorite things to do before going into a festival. Ive been able to see bands like 21pilots, Smallpools, chvrches, imagine dragons, edm acts that are huge now, etc before they got big.
Created an account just to voice my frustration....been every year and this is like a punch in the gut. Undercard is full....of people who have been there before, multiple times. The headliners don't interest me at all.
I got a good lol at Super Duper VIP they are offering this year. I really think they are trolling at this point

I’m most surprised by the amount of people who said they went to this every year. It has been pretty bad since 2015. Even with Paul and Morrissey on the lineup, I was in the upper age bracket there that year at 25. I’m not surprised they finally went full kids bop on you tricks.

I can't speak for anybody else, but the main reason I went back every year is because the fest is about an hour away and it was an easy way to get a large group of my friends together for a weekend to hangout, which is very rare nowadays. The fest has def been declining the last couple years but this is the year that officially ended it for my group of friends and Firefly.
The last couple years we had 15-20 Car camping spots in North Camping. This year, whoever is still going will probably be maybe 2 RVs total. I think it's just time to admit to myself that I'm an old man getting aged out of basic fests and I need to go to Coachella from now on.

Its really not full kids bop the more I look at this. Like I get that this isnt going to convince anyone but if you get past Travis and Post and then past the EDM headliner for the given day, there is very little specifically for the kids. And anyone who has been following this festival knew this fest was getting Post Malone as a headliner, and they always have a cheese EDM act each day.

Looks similar to how Roo 2016 had a major disconnect between their headliners and the undercard. Hopefully it works out better for FF than it did Roo that year.

Um, ok I'm not a fan of Panic at all, but ya'll are in complete denial about their popularity. Last tour cycle they sold out Madison Square Garden AND Nassau Coliseum here in New York, and they had already sold out MSG the year before. Their last 3 albums debuted at #1 and went platinum. And their most recent single was in Top 5 on the Billboard charts. Face it, they're huge.
