If Woodstock 50 comes up with a good lineup (a crowd pleasing one) I'm very curious to see how it affects Firefly. Sure they are 2 months apart, but FF enjoyed the benefit of being the only major camping fest in the Northeast these past 7 years and that won't be the case this year.

Honestly Firefly has been clinging to that fact for years now. If there was more direct competition of this type of fest (larger scale multi genre camping fest) in the Mid Atlantic region I wonder if Firefly would have even survived after 2017.

Curious how much of a fests ticket sales happen in pre-sales & within a month after lineup drop. I'd assume a lot, like 75% (someone correct me if I'm vastly wrong), so I don't see Woodstock affecting FF much at all. Plus, I think Woodstocks's target audience will be very different than that of FF's.
I do feel that Woodstock is happening at the perfect time, because people like myself, who have been neglected by FF are starving for a good, local camping fest to attend.

Woodstock may have a campsite, but it won't have THE GREAT ATLANTIC CAMPOUT.

Could be a reason why they went all in on booking based on streaming and leaned fully in to the college frat party vibe. Let Woodstock book the rock bands of yesterday and leave the litness to Delaware.
I do find it kind of funny both are located on major race tracks.
im curious as to how this is selling. pretty much every post on twitter or instagram is advertising their payment plan options.
And the 1% down special. I can't imagine it is selling well if you are trying to hook people in for $3.50 a ticket.
It must be bad. I’m hoping this will definitely give them a wake up call for next year. I honestly don’t understand why they thought booking Panic and Post would be a good idea, especially for a fest of this size. I get the idea behind Travis Scott as Astroworld was huge and he sold out the first leg of the tour. From what it looks like, it seems like they lost Gambino to a mid-size fest in D.C. I just think they could’ve done a lot better with something like this: DMB + Florence + Travis Scott
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol

This was my exact thought after 2017's lineup. 2018 was slightly better, but here we are again.

It wouldn't wake them up on booking some amazing eclectic rock lineup. It would just make them go back to what works, aka Foo Fighters • The Killers • Kings of Leon.

I think this year's attendance will be the worst yet, if not by far. 2017's lineup didn't have a lot of meat on it, but 21P/Muse/The Weeknd were pretty straight forward crowd pleasers for this demo and had the benefit of coming off a relatively successful 2016 (I think?). 2018 did ok but was still not a universally praised lineup. They needed to hit well on this, yet dropped a day from the schedule and also dropped the worst lineup in it's history. Not good.
It's pretty wild how this festival got steadily worse after AEG got involved. The solo Red Frog years, 2012-2014, were the golden years. I'm kinda just expecting AEG to pull the plug once their 10 year contract with Dover Speedway has expired.. which would make 2022 Firefly's last year. We'll see if they make it that long.
03/14 - Thievery Corporation 04/25 - Black Country, New Road 05/04 - In Flames, Gatecreeper 05/10 - Modern Life is War 05/21 - Spite, Bodysnatcher, Thrown 05/29 - Knocked Loose, Loathe, Show me the Body, Speed 06/02 - Bush 06/22 - George Thorogood 06/23 - Dillinger Escape Plan, Deadguy, Candy, Carbomb

whole market got worse. this festival is still one of the best ones that has dropped imo. not as good as coachella, behind Boston calling probably, but its just as good or better than any other lineup after that

I remember Sweetlife Festival 2013, which was hosted at Merriweather Post Pavilion, had Kendrick, Phoenix, 21 Pilots, Solange, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Passion Pit, Gary Clark Jr., Youth Lagoon, Foxygen, and Holy Ghost!.. VIP tix were only $75 with fees.. and I would take that tiny regional fest over the entirety of Firefly's lineup this year.. That's the disparity in the festival world between now and 5 years ago. It's just as well, I'm getting too old for this shit anyway.

looking back on fest from 5 years ago doesn’t really work to compare to current day cause so many of the “big names” were young and then put out the subsequent music to be able to be a headliner type draw. For example Kendrick was a terrible live performer at that point
I am also not planning on going to this fest at the moment fwiw, going to try Boston Calling and a lot of these top acts that I want to see I have, but if Vampire Weekend doesnt announce a DMV area date tomorrow then Ill be going to this for sunday at least

oh are Vampire Weekend due to announce thier tour tomorrow?? I know they teased an MSG show on Sunday and the announcement is this week but are we thinking it's tomorrow?

Phoenix headlined Coachella that year, and Good Kid m.A.D.D. City had been released the prior year.. that was still a stacked lineup whether or not some of the artists had broken out yet or not. I saw Kendrick 3 times in 2013 and he was solid at every performance.. his crowd at Firefly the same year was bananas. Also, that EP Solange had released was dope and she was still incredible live at the time (and still Bey's sister), and Passion Pit, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Gary Clark Jr. were at the peak of their careers, so that offsets the newcomer aspect of Solange and 21 Pilots. There's really no way you can spin that lineup to try to discredit it from comparisons to the lineups of today. The festival market sucks these days: fact. It's been collapsing for years now, but if you choose not to see the decline in talent, that's up to you.
