It's weird, because usually there are like 3-5 must sees for me and the rest is hardly even an interest. This year there are hardly any must sees but quite a bit I'd actually want to see. Generally there isn't an act I'd see before 5PM but everyday there are smaller acts actually worth seeing all day.

Speaking of that, how easy is it to smoke weed in both the camping area as well as the festival site?
I may end up doing all three days after all (with an arrival on Friday evening and late departure on Sunday night). Gonna be super weird to adjust after having done Primavera Sound...

Firefly is probably the easiest for all mentioned I've encountered. It's completely decriminalized in DE so no worries at all. I saw a security officer pull out a jar of green at check in, place it in another bag for some reason, and hand it back to the dude and sent him on his way to camping. The pat downs are really day to day and security person specific. Some days it's like the TSA, other days they barely bother.

I’ve never had trouble, and last year was the first time out of every Firefly that they ever actually found my weed. I just got lazy and a girl had died in the campgrounds so they ramped up the checks into the festival on Sunday, and the girl found my weed in my wallet. She just handed it off to a supervisor and let me through with no other questions.
I’m kind of paranoid things might change since Goldenvoice/Madison House Presents are in charge now, but I don’t think it will be anything crazy.
If I’m remembering correctly they use a wand/and or you walk through a metal detector after you put your phone/keys/wallet in a bowl. I can’t remember if they actually do pat downs. I feel like they didn’t last year because I remember thinking I wouldn’t have had my weed taken if I had just put it in my pocket.
I’ve definitely smoked with the security before, a lot of them are just dudes working a job, but not going out of their way to be dicks. Just trying to make sure everyone is safe while also having a good time.

That’s only if you already have a pass. They’re “upgrades”. This was already discussed to death in the subreddit because people thought they were buying a pass for a 3 day wristband.
If you purchase an upgrade from the app, you have to ALREADY have a wristband that you will turn in at will call.

The thing about the jar, probably because Glass ain’t allowed in the campsite, so he probably took the weed out of the jar and put it in a bag. Pretty bro move of that cop and shows more or less where their priorities are.
With the change in ownership I’m hoping it stays the same, and isn’t as filled with police trying to make minor busts like Bonnaroo was this year.
I’ve never in all of my time in Firefly actually seen a cop arrest anyone, and in the festival itself I feel like I rarely see them. Maybe they’ll drive by on a cart, or I’ll walk pst one of their posts, but other then that I feel like they’re aren’t roaming the grounds in squads looking to bust people for smoking weed and having fun.
I remember during Snoop Dogg 2015 when the guy climbed the speaker tower, fucking EVERYONE was blazing and I turned around to have a line of state troopers marching right past me. At first I thought I was fucked, but they obviously didn’t give a shit and just wanted to get the guy down.

Has anyone called Firefly to confirm that? Cause there’s also an option to upgrade to a single day ticket, which of course doesn’t make sense

Yes it’s been confirmed repeatedly.
The upgrade to a day pass = just getting another day pass.
Example would be if you already had a single day wristband for Friday, through the App you could “upgrade” and get another day pass for Saturday or Sunday at a discounted price, but you would have to have your original wristband with you when you pick up the “upgrade” at will call.
I’ve been describing it to people like this.
Imagine it’s a staircase, where moving upwards you can’t skip any steps.
With a single day pass at the bottom, you can upgrade to either another day pass, a VIP day pass for the day you already have, or a 3 day wristband for $150 (which would basically just be paying the difference on the 3 day).
If you have a 3 day wristband, you can upgrade to VIP.
If you’re VIP, you can upgrade to Super VIP.
While it MIGHT save a few dollars in some instances, really the UPGRADES are just paying the difference to get a better pass.
And all of this is ONLY if you already PURCHASED a wristband of some sort.
You can’t UPGRADE something you don’t have, which is why I’m confused as to how people think they can purchase an “upgrade” for something they don’t already have.
Firefly has said in order to get your upgrade at will call you have to exchange your original wristband.
If you don’t have a wristband to exchange, you’re either paying the difference you owe at will call or you’re SOL.

I feel sorry for those poor volunteers that will have to explain what an upgrade is to those that show up looking to pick up their wristband after paying that $150 online.

I do too but it’s like, people should really use their brains just a tad bit more.
It’s not rocket scientist understanding that you can’t upgrade something you don’t have.
I assume the festival figured anyone downloading the app already had the tickets, it was updated what like 3 days ago? Why would anyone that didn’t have a ticket and wasn’t going download the app?
If you go to the website, tickets are still full price.
I’m honestly almost thinking tickets aren’t selling as poorly as people seemed to think they would.
The upgrades offered on the app just seems like smart business. Those people are already committed, why not offer them a bit more?
And when it comes down to it, it doesn’t even look the upgrades would save that much money if any at all.
The numbers don’t look bad though, especially the offer for people with day passes to upgrade to 3 day GA for the additional 150+fees.
Granted that’s probably around $300 all together which is normal price, but if you had already bought a day pass months ago, and you had the time and were already there, why not spend another 180ish to just go all three days?
Hope everyone going this weekend has a lot of fun. Even though I’m not a fan of the lineup, I still am kind of sad I’m not going.
same feeling for me, have gone since 2015, not going this year. part of the fun for me is that I would always have a very large group that would go, probably like 15-25 people depending on the year. literally none of them are going this year either, so the fomo feelings aren't as big as I thought they'd be.
how long should it take getting into the grounds from the casino parking lot? i think it was a decent walk to the gates when i did it back in 2014 but i cant remember.
Depending on how far back into the lot you are, I would give yourself 20 minutes to walk over. If you are in a real rush, there are usually some pedicabs but they are expensive. Admission line can vary wildly, depending on how thorough security is being and how many people are in line (5-20 minutes it seems).
that sounds about right. im taking a uber/lyft over both days so aiming to give myself like 45 mins between the time i get dropped of and the first set i wanna see.

There's usually three times a day when the lines are long: Right when the gates open (obviously), around 2-3PM (the slackers), and around 5-6PM (after work folks).
Despite all of the negativity surrounding the lineup this year (from myself included) I’m honestly as excited for Firefly as I’ve ever been.
Really looking forward to pretty much all of the artists at the North Hub tomorrow, and then the rest of the weekend I’ve got UMO, Death Cab, Car Seat Headrest, Naked Giants, Thumpasaurus, Tyler the Creator, Awolnation, Vampire Weekend, Nude Party, Yung Bae, the Midnight, 4B, Passion Pit, Zedd and DJ Snake, Phosphorescent, Lee Fields and the Expressions, the Main Squeeze, TLC.
I might don Crooked Colours over Zedd, and maybe Nora En Pure over DJ Snake. It all depends on what vibe I’m looking for I guess.
And then the headliners, I’m not really a fan of any of them but I’ve heard great things about Travis Scott so I’m excited for him, and Post Malone I’ve heard CAN be good, not great, but something I think I would be cool with sitting back and chilling while it happens.
Panic at the Disco I’ve never liked, I may check them out just to do it.
Overall I think it’s going to be a great weekend, and I think there is potential for a lot of awesome surprises.
With a new company taking over I feel like it could go one way or the other but I’m optimistic we will see a lot of improvements and cool little additions.
The Prism is still a mystery, will it be covered? Will any stage be covered now that the Pavilion is gone?
With the amount of DJ’s playing everyday on the Prism, especially during daylight, I have to think it will be covered. Otherwise, why remove the pavilion and put all of the dj’s out in the sun? It kills the vibes, the light show, and the experience overall and would make getting rid of the pavilion pointless.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra is sliding under the radar a bit I think, and will be one of the best sets of the weekend.
I saw them on their first US tour in 2011. It was UMO opening, Telekinesis, and then Portugal. The Man headlining. Tickets were like $15. I had never heard of UMO but they blew me away at that show.
I saw them again that fall touring with Gauntlet Hair, awesome show again. I got to meet Ruban afterwards and he was a really cool dude.
It’s been too long, I’m so happy I get to see them again. They’ve come out with so much great shit. I would rank them up their with Portugal. The Man and Tame Impala and the Flaming Lips for top psychedelic rock performances I’ve ever seen.

There's a pic of the Prism on reddit - just a beefed up Backyard stage. EDM fans are going to be dropping like flies

That's pretty lazy. Though to be frank, I'm amazed that most American festivals don't put up large shaded structures in the same way that European festivals do.
Anyone that is using the code pick up tickets from will call yet? Just wondering to 100% confirm it works, Im not getting there until Saturday or Sunday
