Moving some of the more niche acts to the night time on smaller stages was such a great move. Snail Mail at sunset was incredible, the Treehouse stage was very fun as well

This article talks about how the older crowd thinks the festival has lost some of its mojo. I mean they aren’t wrong, but it’s never going to be the same. The booking team definitely needs to find a nice blend though. They should definitely be talking to The Cure, Foos, RHCP, Sir Paul, etc.

As I said previously went down for the day yesterday to see Vampy Weeks, and going in I was a little nervous because the internet kept saying what a shit show it was, but I can honestly say I think it was one of my favorite days at Firefly, and I’ve been to almost all of them . Security was a breeze and super easy if you just follow instructions. Once I was in the crowds were a great size not too big not too small, and with the exception of some Posty crowd talkers during Vampire the crowds were respectful and engaged. The sound this year was greatly improved from years past. The Hideaway stage is fantastic, especially while the sun is setting and that area is shaded. Vampire Weekend and CSH slayed, and Car Seat’s crowd was surprisingly turnt. So much fun. If they can get a solid headliner or two with an undercard like this year I think I might go back to the whole weekend next year.

Weekend was really a ton of fun, weather was near perfect and the music was also great. Shout out to The Foot Fuckin' Master for the code, worked perfectly and made to be a really awesome couple of days. Best sets of the weekend:
1. Vampire Weekend: Biggest reason I wanted to come in the first place and they were so so good. The New Dorp New York jam session was amazing and really unexpected and generally just a really tight set.
2. Car Seat Headrest: Pretty wild to me but Will Toledo is now a legit rock star. Crowd was phenomenal for Car Seat too, almost everyone around me knew all the words and were getting very into it.
3. Passion Pit: Missed the first song getting over from Travis Scott but they sounded great and a near perfect way to end Saturday.
4. Snail Mail: Crowd was small but relatively engaged and Lindsey playing Pristine right as the sun was going down was a super cool moment for me.
i had no issues with lines or annoying kids for the most part, same some around but i wasnt at the sets they were.
I spent the most time in the roost which i dont get why it wasnt called the barn lol. i saw mostly partial sets so ill rank the ones i saw in full the first 2 days.
1. Main Squeeze. One of my fav bands and thy fucking destroyed that barn. 2. Ripe. This is for both the Dive bar and treehouse sets. the dive bar was very cool and i was maybe 3 inches from them playing and the lead singer Robbie hooked me up with a beer during the set. 3. Joywave. Sounded great on the lawn and got hear all my favs. 4. Mansonair. im fairly new to them so was excited to see that set and it delivered. 5. Lee Fields. Man he was a blast, he was loving me and my girl getting down.
HM: Lawrence. Always a blast, love when they cover Sean Paul.

Was a great weekend, despite seeing zero headliners.
1. Bob Moses. Had zero expectations and honestly thought this was a DJ group. Blew me away. I already mentioned the cover of "Breathe" that was my fav moment of the festival.
2. Young the Giant. Honestly, was never a huge fan of thier music but I have to give credit due. From start to finish the crowd was singing every song in unison and it was just a great set.
3. Vampire Weekend. The crowd looked pretty light for the beginning of the set, but they were on point.
4. Sir Sly. They looked like they were enjoying themselves as much as any artist this weekend.
5. Passion Pit. Ended half an hour early for some reason (did they not get the memo their set was 1:15 long?) but put on a great show.
6. Car Seat Headrest. I think they would have really done well if their set was in the treehouse. Missed opportunity there. Good show though.
7. Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Only show I saw in full at the Hidewaway stage. Glad they were booked.
8. TLC. Really didn't expect anything but they came out with a lot of energy and enjoyed hearing the classics.
Those are the mail full sets I saw. Don't think it's appropriate to rate non-full sets.
Also to note: the Roost was way underutilized. A huge air conditioned barn needed more artists in there.
Also shoutout to TLC that was a great set, way better then I expected it to be. The emo night at the treehouse was pretty fun too even though that was never my thing they played mostly songs I knew and enjoyed. Got it flask is easily everyday but it was like impossible to get someone to give me a damn cup of ice despite offering tip money. Only 2 workers were cool with that.

Ended up arriving Friday evening, and left on Sunday before Post Malone came on so that we could avoid the departing traffic back home. Only ended up seeing 7-8 full sets over the course of the weekend, which is a first for me given how the lineup is always the single most important reason to attend a festival. That said, I saw some super memorable shows: Vampire Weekend being #1 in a perfect time slot, followed by Death Cab, Passion Pit, Travis Scott, and Car Seat Headrest.
But from the perspective of a weekend camping getaway, it was super relaxed. The weather was amazing and I LOVED how the festival did not feel full which made everything so much easier and smoother. While I didn't really feel much of "community" at both the campsite and the festival, people were generally friendly and enthused, and I was amazed how few clothing was worn by some attendees, which IMO contributed to the comfortable vibes.
However, the lineup was absolutely not worth the general admission price of $349 (super happy that I won that free code, and that I was able to pass it on to all of you!), and I thought that the add-on's were a fucking affront to all GA ticket buyers. All the Front Row Viewing and Super VIP sections were a joke. In addition, my predictions about Death Cab's set being overrun with obnoxious Travis Scott campers came true, though luckily there was ample room to keep moving back to find a better place. In addition, the changes in set times for Travis Scott and Passion Pit could have been communicated way better - there was apparently a notification on the app, but the festival really should have broadcasted this on all the screens. Luckily I happened to be at the right place at the right times for both shows, because I would have hated to have missed even a single minute of them. More complaints: the goddamn Bud Light Dive Bar that just created sound pollution during shows, and the damn showers at the campsite only being open from 6am-1pm and 8pm-1am (who the hell is going to shower during the main acts, come on people).
Also regarding the Reddit posts: my companion actually posted one of the most upvoted pictures there of some asshole going around kicking tents, but he ended up having just as great a time at the festival as I did. However, the caveat is that we were shielded from a lot of the other idiocy that probably went on, most likely due to arriving late at a campsite and thus being next to others who hadn't been drinking since Thursday morning, as well as not having anything stolen and having avoided being up front for the more, say, "douchebag" shows.
Furthermore, Panic At The Disco makes fucking atrocious music, worst headliner I've ever seen.
Nonetheless, I am happy to have been proven wrong about some of my misconceptions about this festival. I don't imagine that Firefly will suddenly book the type of lineup that caters to my Primavera Sound-style taste, but I will definitely try to seek out free tickets again for future editions, because I'd love to recruit more friends and make another party weekend out of it.
