Did they announce this at the Sunday after show? Can anyone share the Sunday after show stories? Love to hear about what happened there.
Yeah Deer Tick announced it at the after-show. Jay was on stage, and said that there will also be a DT Blowout at the fest next year. Assuming it’ll be a headliner.
I know Ian is doing his own solo record - but I hope they aren’t planning on breaking up. Kinda sucks that they plan to wrap it up after what seems like the quintessential Newport event (outside of the festival of course.)

The Newport Congregational Church is hands down the best after show venue in Newport!
I went to both shows there this weekend (MCK and Hiss) and both were acoustic shows with no drums and the acoustics in that building were absolutely phenomenal.
The bats flying around in it on Saturday definitely added an unexpected element to it too!

Third year in the books and it keeps getting better and better. Already looking forward to next year. I think my favorites from the weekend are: Collaboration - Brandi and crew put together a phenomenal set. Brandi has to be MVP for the fest this year. Highwomen - I was one of the folks that initially wasn't wild on Redesigning Women, but that song killed live. All of their originals were top notch, should be quite the album they have on their hands. And the Chain, wow. Yola - Maybe my most anticipated set of the weekend, and she exceeded my expectations. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was so good. The band's arrangements were great, the three of them just jelled perfectly. And I was thrilled to see her pop up at so many sets throughout the weekend, especially the song at Dawes. CMA - Amazing, I'm a big fan of her recorded stuff, but it sounded even better live. Brandi showing up for May Your Kindness Remain was the cherry on top. Morby - Wasn't sure if I should see the Dacus set, but I'm so glad I caught the full Kevin Morby set. Maybe one of the best rock sets I have seen in quite some time. The full band was on point and they have a great sound. Devon - This guy is a star and I feel like his current recordings aren't doing him enough justice. Such a fun start to the day. Hope his new album raises his profile because him and his band brought it and he seems like a great guy. I’m With Her - Only caught the first 30-35 minutes, but they sounded so good. Loved the Vampire Weekend cover and the bluegrass section. It was tough to pull myself over to the Kacey show. North Hills - Similar to I'm With Her, but everything I saw I was really digging. I finally understand why Dawes is so beloved, fantastic live band. And the features were great, though Bridget from LSD struggled a bit with her vocals. Kacey - I don't think they did anything different at Newport from what they have been doing at recent festivals, but Golden Hour was my favorite album from last year and the live arrangements of the songs added some zest. One general comment, I'm surprised Kacey didn't join any collaborations with the Highwomen or the all female Collab. I wonder if she doesn't get along with some of that crew, because style wise she fits right in. If I Had a Song - I loved that song books were handed out. Not as polished as the Collaboration, but what was great was great. Every song with Robin from Fleet Foxes was top notch, as were Our Native Daughters, Lake Street, Trey, Mavis and I'm probably missing a few others. They could have given Hard Rains Gonna Fall to a different singer, that was a little rough. But Kermit easily made up for that. Honorable mention: Sheryl, Hozier, JS, Cooks in the Kitchen
Also, first year doing an actual aftershow (we did Newport's Eve in 2017 which was a lot of fun). Hiss and the whole crew of guests were amazing at Newport Congregational, would definitely be down to see another show there next year.
Who showed up this year that you think we might see in a fuller capacity next year? I would go with Tallest Man, an actual Fruit Bats set, maybe someone from the Future is Female set (most likely Erin Rae), Steve Gunn and SVE. I would also welcome another Hurray for the Riff Raff and Nicole Atkins set, always a fan of them.
I'll give my thoughts on the whole weekend later but just wanted to shout out the Yonatan Gat & The Eastern Medicine Singers set in the Museum on Friday. It was transcendent. Went in thinking I'd split it with Cooks in the Kitchen and less than a second after it started I realized I wasn't leaving until they were done. Pretty sure I started tearing up less than a minute in just from the sheer force/volume/setting of the thing. Was already on a high from the Liz Cooper set and Yonatan took that to the next level. Not a single regret about missing almost all of Cooks

As much as I enjoyed the Cooks set, it wasn’t one to regret missing.
I did love that Phil gave a nod to Charlie Parr with his cover of 1922 Blues though.

Kyle Craft dammit! It’s an absolute travesty. Hopefully now that he has a full band put together he’ll get added next year.
But Crow was in for a surprise when James Taylor texted her just 15 minutes before her set: “Maybe I should come sit in with you.” The legendary singer-songwriter had been boating with his family nearby when organizer Jay Sweet called the Coast Guard to dock him outside the Fort Stage; dressed in a simple cotton shirt and baseball cap, Taylor managed to move through the crowd undetected, until he emerged onstage to sing Crow’s 1996 country-rock hit “Everyday Is a Winding Road.”

I’m blanking on the duet Robin and Judy did after Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Can someone help me out? I know it’s a song I’ve heard a million times just completely blanked.

The QC shade tent was directly next to the entrance to the dock he parked his boat on, and we saw the huge security presence when he walked in. I was the only one in the group who realized it was James Taylor though so I felt pretty proud of myself lol.

anyone book super early for next year? i havent in past but got tired of driving 10 miles to portmouth, RI this year. looks like most hotel sites only list stuff 330 days out, so you cant even check dates yet. just wondering anyone had early bird tips?
while i spend the trying to put my brain back together and come back to earth, here a just a few single song highlights from the weekend:
Todd snider - reality tv talking blues The highwomen - the highwomen robin, james + eric - Judy blue eyes Susto - weather balloon Maggie - angel from montgomery Jade bird - my motto Cooks - 1922 Warren - soulshine Illiterate light - growin’ down Trey - farmhouse Dawes - when my time comes JS - saying goodbye Phos - around the horn
obviously there were far more highlights, this barely scratches surface, just some that stood out to me.

Not that I'm looking into it but what were the hotels/companies that ended up canceling people's reservations or whatever this year? Was that in this thread? I'll have to go through and see. That's something that I'd be on the lookout for.

I honestly could have left the main set after Kermit and Jim James. That was amazing for me. I loved what they did throughout. Going to need to go over the schedule before posting my highlights and mega moments.
i think missing CMA was one of my hardest calls of the weekend, but i did get to see her open for recently so that led to decision. seeing that she did Kindness with Brandi gives me all sorts of regrets but I am dealing as best i can.
any predictions for recording of either collab or if i had a song? would love to have it re-listen (or rewatch) and would gladly buy either on vinyl a la Speak Out.
