There are two place/times that kill me: Quad closer because you are forced to miss the start of the If I had a Song closing set which has traditionally been an amazing once in a lifetime set Mid-day Fort because I can rarely stand the heat if there are too many Fort performances that I really want to see.
Ideally he would be second to last performance at either the quad or fort.
Very excited about this one.
Last three announcements have me getting excited.
Can't believe we get Phil Lesh and Trey Anastasio in the same weekend.
To continue that debate from earlier, I’d rather hip hop than jam. Hip hop at least is more authentic folk.
Agreed. Idk what Trey's solo sets are like but his songwriting as far as I've experienced it has never been anything I would describe as "good"
A Trey a Newport set: I wonder what song he’s going to play?
Seriously though, I’m not super high on Trey, and I’m out of the loop if he or Phish have been doing anything new lately, but I’m definitely curious. Not a big fan of his singing/songwriting, but it’d be kind of cool to hear him shred an acoustic guitar. Curious to see what kind of set he ends up doing.

Try again. It took me a long time to get (back) on the train (too).
The thing is... I actually can tolerate and occasionally enjoy Trey. Saw him with perform with a symphony about 9 years back (and it was a good show). And I can enjoy the more jammy bluegrass/folk festivals like DelFest - which Newport could almost pass off as so far (in fact I saw Lake Street Dive and Billy Strings at DelFest).
I just can’t get excited about a Trey set in 2019. Especially when it’s likely to be in a prime time spot. And when we already have a Phil Lesh set also in a prime time slot.
Just this morning I was thinking about how cool it would be if Newport booked Iggy Pop. That possibility becomes even less likely with Trey being booked for a similar spot.
With that said, part of my disdain for Trey is FOMO (fear of missing out on something better / more unique / more exciting / more special circa 2019 - like a St Vincent acoustic set). Schedule him in a 2 o’clock afternoon set and my concerns go away.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Trey’s 2008 set at Newport for anyone interested. Should I warn about spoilers?
To be fair, this is how I’d actually prefer to see Trey. Farmhouse, Sample in a Jar, the Connection, and Bouncing Around the Room are fun songs outside of the jams.

This guy's debut album comes out tomorrow. Would be fucking fantastic at Newport
The album is excellent. The description on Spotify is good too: “Orville Peck may not want to show you his face, but he’s clearly unafraid to open his heart.”
solid day of new music, with Strand of Oaks and Jenny Lewis records at the top of my life.
still holding hopes for Strand and Tim at the fort (with or without his MMJ backing band). Jenny Lewis, despite my best wishes, will be in europe during NFF this year.

what else are people listening to?
Lots of good stuff today. I like the new Andrew Bird, Nilufer Yanya, Strand of Oaks and Ibibio Sound Machine. If Newport is looking for an international act this year, Ibibio would be really fun. They are playing Pickathon too.
