Probably about a dozen pages back by now, two of you were talking about Orville Peck. He’s been on my radar since then but I finally gave a listen.
Has this guy really not been booked by Newport? That’s a damn shame. I didn’t realize how much I needed dreampop country. I’ve never been great with comparisons, but I feel like if Morrissey would have made a country album (and not turned into such a jerk), we’d be left with Orville Peck’s new album.
The worst thing about discovering new artists after the full lineup has been announced is knowing that I won’t be seeing them at Newport this year (*fingers crossed for a Museum Stage set; he is in Ontario that weekend so not entirely too far away*)
Sadly it sounds like Joni Mictchell isn't able to perform. She's been recovering from serious health issues. It's great that she made a public appearance at the Newport benefit.
From NPR In recent years, trouble has been part of Mitchell's story in a less poetic way. In 2015 she suffered a brain aneurysm, and although she has made several recent public appearances as she recovers, according to some reports she is still learning to walk again, and she has not spoken in public. Her diminished presence has raised anxiety in fans who can't imagine a world without Mitchell's voice.

Wow, sad to hear that about Joni Mitchell. And pretty amazing that she was able to make that appearance despite her challenges. I ended up putting on an essentials mix, its been way to long since I’ve listened to her, and jeez, her songs can just hit me like no other. Unbelievably beautiful but so vivacious too. She’s a true legend.
Going to go to left field with the women’s Saturday act - Nicks, Staples, Musgraves, Eilish with special guests galore. No Fleetwood Mac touring, Mavis and Kacey are already there, and Billie is in the area. What a delightfully weird combo that’d be. It’d pull together so many styles and sounds. Could be epic or it could be crap.

My kid is 14. A few years back he casted Billie Eilish to my tv. He introduced me to a very talented kid not much older than him. After years of casting songs to that tv introducing him to artists I knew he'd love (once resulting in him dancing in the aisles to Paul McCartney at fenway) it was resfreshing to witness his generation's musicians make their debut. I looked at him and told him that she was really good. I meant it.
So a Facebook search of “Newport Folk” brought up a top result from singer-songwriter Dan Blakeslee. Stating on May 17 that “I’ve got some very exciting news to share with all of you involving Newport Folk Festival! I will announce next week!”
Was he announced as part of the after shows? Did he do the posters for the after shows? Or is it an announcement still to come (museum stage, live from album, festival poster)?

Isn't Dan always just there? Did he get to play museum or something last year? I thought there was something about him actually getting a set instead of just playing around everywhere. Would be cool if he announces something hes involved with for the fest.

War and Treaty's stunning performance at last years Newport Folk Festival. Michael learned piano at Saddam's palace during the Iraq war. He learned to write songs for fallen comrade's funerals.
Ruston Kelly. A powerful video telling a tragic story about a woman's time in the army.
If OMAM is our last announcement on top of Portugal the Man, I just... I don't know. I guess... why?
They have been on my hopeful and prediction lists since this year's site began, and I really like their seeming new direction, but it does seem an odd fit for Sunday. Not sure who fits (arghhh, Chance?) Saturday could certainly use any number of interesting acts, but that would assume the Museum becomes something of a more featured stage or a 19th act is added. Right now, I might go to the beach on Saturday. Would be interesting if someone like Susto is playing only half a set, and we get another unannounced artist who plays half a set, ala James Taylor.
OMAM lands in CA, comes to Boston and New York with tickets still to sell...don't see logic, although it would be indeed rare to fly directly Iceland to the West coast. If the album drops on Friday, the 26th...seems it would be at a private party at home, or celebrated Saturday someplace like Newport. Head scratching. Does Saturday even have a true closer (since we don't say headliner).
Do we think we'll get an announcement tomorrow or is the 18th name for Sunday unannounced?
I'm struggling to feel out where the gap on Sunday's schedule is. Maybe something like:
FORT: Pres. Hall > Our Native Daughters > [final announcement] > Lake Street Dive > Hozier > If I Had A Song
QUAD: Bonny Light Horseman > Nilufer Yanya > Stephen Marley > Phosphorescent > Portugal. the Man > Trey Anastasio
HARBOR: EB the Younger > J.S. Ondara > The O'My's > Billy Strings & Molly Tuttle > Courtney Marie Andrews > The Milk Carton Kids
alternatively, switch some stuff around and maybe we're missing our harbor closer? I'm stumped. Feels like if there's another announcement it has to be on the bigger side but not sure where that'd fit. Which leads me to guess it's gonna be unannounced
Looks like Joe Pug will Be with MCK in Big Indian right before the fest. Hoping he gets a museum spot.
I love Joe Pug and am always happy when he’s booked for a fest I am planning to attend. But isn’t he like more popular than 1/6th of the artists booked to play one of the three main stages?

I’m not sure of his actual popularity. He might seem more popular to fans of this festival. Really not sure though.

I'm hoping for an actual announcement, I was also operating under the assumption that we had our closers for each stage.
Looks like Deer Tick is playing Levon Helm Studio on 7/20 with Twain. Wonder if they will do a couple local shows again, before they head to red rocks and back to Newport.

I received a text and email indicating my request was selected for Friday. Have not seen an email saying yes or no to my Saturday or Sunday requests yet.
