Ever since the spoiler came out there hasn't been much speculation on who the guests might be on Saturday and Sunday's closing acts. It's as if getting those two names has satiated everyone's curiosity. However, there is still a lot of room for surprise guests beyond those already known. So, with that being said I would like to throw out some ill advised speculative names. Anyone else want to play along?
Female Collaboration: Aimee Mann (in the general area and playing under the Bowery promoters) Lizzo (in Cincinnati the night before, playing under Bowery) Patti Smith ( about to start playing several festivals in August)
Joni Mitchell - in attendance and honored, but not singing (based on her attendance at Mavis birthday gig and the Jay Sweet kiss!)
If I Had a Song: Margot Price (she just had the baby, but she is also touring with Chris Stapleton already and free just on Sunday otherwise I would have thrown her into the Female collab) Christ Thile (How can he not come back after last year. Also he is closely aligned with I'm With her.) David Crosby (Fits the theme and was present last year) Art Garfunkel (This seems a little out of left field, but he is in the area and playing under Bowery) Jakob Dylan (He is in the area touring with the Wallflowers.)
That is all for now. Hoping others have thoughts that are exciting/compelling.

Just in-case anyone didn't check their e-mail yet who've gotten tickets through Lyte: I've received my e-mails today for my Friday and Sunday tickets, in addition to parking passes - which came in three separate e-mails. We're getting so close to the event - I get more and more excited each day!

Thanks, so far, for all the insight, y'all. And the way you guys describe the general vibe is music to my ears - one of the reasons I'm looking forward to this so much is as a break from a summer concert and festival season that has been full of shitty crowds. I am way down for being nice at a festival.
So, in terms of transportation, a question: My friends and I are staying in Bristol, because that was the only place we could find an affordable AirBnB that fits the lot of us. That being the case, biking to the festival is out. We were planning to drive, but I've also heard horror stories about the traffic. Is it possible to park somewhere within biking (or, as someone else mentioned, water taxi) distance of the festival, and then bike (or water taxi) from there? Would that make any difference in terms of getting out at the end of the day?
Forgive my ignorance, here, and if the answer is, "Let me Google that for you," that's totally cool. Thanks, all.
All my tickets arrived via email today -- Eventbrite and Lyte. If you have confirmed tickets but don't receive an email soon: www.eventbrite.com/support/contact-us
If you have reservations at Motel 6, double check your reservation. Seems they overbooked.
Re Saturday: Probably not a big secret to share that Sheryl Crow and Mavis Staples will definitely be appearing (isn't Mavis also doing her show that night? At 80 she's like Comeback Player of the decade).
Re Sunday: No clue, but no way Judy Collins doesn't perform after being a good trooper in The Museum. Colin Molloy makes a ton of sense, as does Mavis, Rhiannon, Ramblin' Jack, and IMHO already (and will never mention his name again), Arlo. As per K2b: Elle King, Joan Jett and Heart all playing Darien, CT that Friday. The performer who matches so well, but just seems too far fetched is Bruce. Rather, I think we'll see some younger performers to bridge the 100 year gap.

Traffic coming to the fest isn’t horrible. If you think about it, it’s only 10,000 people. I’ll assume 1-2K take bikes or ferries in. And the rest probably have a few heads per car. And the time of arrival is staggered. That’s not too bad when you compare it to a small sporting event (week night baseball game in a small market) or a concert at an urban shed.
What does make it even remotely interesting is the geographic layout of the fest. It’s kind of tucked into the bottom of a peninsula with really only one way in and out.
In my experience, when I don’t have to cross the bridge (which is likely the case for someone coming from Bristol), I think at its worst I’ve added 30 minutes of sitting in traffic to the trip. Coming across the bridge and through the city of Newport can get a little worse: maybe an hour delay?
The biggest issue, as it seems you are aware, is leaving. Mainly because everyone is trying to leave at once and all traffic must exit through a single road. If there’s ever a night you’re leaving before the headliner, traffic shouldn’t be too bad. If you are parked in a lower lot, traffic shouldn’t be too bad either. Another option is to pack a post-concert tailgate and wait about an hour after the headliner ends. There are some lots nearby at local high schools, that would be about a 15 minute walk away, but might help you avoid having to merge into that single road that causes the back up.
You could park within water taxi, but the line of the water taxi can almost be as long as the line for the car to leave the fest. If you know you want to hang out in the city after the show, then it’s not a bad option. But if you’re just going to then jump in your car to drive to Bristol, it’s probably a wash.

Quick question regarding the aftershows, since I'll be going to my first one this year: is parking usually a shitshow? I'm trying to think through the logistics of it, as I have a parking pass at the Fort for Friday during the day, and then after Phil I'll be fighting traffic to get back to the Pickens theater. Any recommendations would be sincerely appreciated!

You might have to walk a couple minutes but I’ve never had an issue finding street parking near the Pickens
Also note that many restaurants close before you can get to Newport or nearby, and I have had trouble parking, mostly just in the main part of town. Look them up or make reservations or cook.
Welcome all suggestions for eateries -- from cheap and on-the-run, to that special place for night out to burn the rest of your wallet. Have to ask my wife where we have gone.
Oh -- and if you drive, make a good note where you parked. Nothing like wandering the hills in the dark thinking, "wasn't I here 10 minutes ago?"

Park at the High School and bike from there, you'll be glad you did. 1.5 mile bike.
How's this for a prediction? Tom Waits for the TBA set. • Mavis Staples said in her WTF interview with Marc Maron that Tom was planning on coming out for her New York show unannounced but had to cancel last minute. And he's sang with her before. • He's reportedly a fan of Todd Snider • He guested on a Ramblin' Jack Elliott album. • Sheryl Crow, Lukas Nelson and Will Nelson have covered Tom Waits together! (https://www.whosampled.com/cover/619451/Willie-Nelson-Sheryl-Crow-Lukas-Nelson-Come-on-Up-to-the-House-Tom-Waits-Come-on-Up-to-the-House/) That's all I got! One can dream.

Quick question: does Newport allow professional audio recording devices of any kind, portable or otherwise? I was debating about getting something like this so I can record some of the sets on Friday and Sunday and share it with everyone: amzn.to/2XHjgZH
One more gripe: why is "The Future is Female" set overlapping with Kacey Musgraves, Amy Ray Band, Sheryl Crow and The Highwomen!?! I mean, I understand it has to overlap with some women, but all four of those are BIG names and/or highly anticipated acts.
I also tried to include only podcast episodes with interviews, so no episodes that were soley performances.
Lastly, my list is subjective and I didn't include interviews for artists I found little interest in. However, I will add any episodes linked to in the notes.

Did i mention i love the Kraken part of your name. 'QuackClub' which houses a good many of the gang here is two blocks over from the Bristol town line in Warren. We can share some secrets. Though whatever time I tell you, i'll back up my time by 15 minutes to be safe. PM me.
As Jthepee said - SUNSCREEN - before you leave the hotel, B&B..When you get to the gates it's a bit of a wait with no shade. That is the only NFF serious complaint I have is with skin cancer so prevalent (and the scars to prove it) sunscreen is not enough. We need to balance insurance friendly with a free-for-all bring your shade behind the lines. Should not have to choose between amazing music and health.
As recently shared with a noob in PM, for me the pride of newport is everything y'all said however most of all Rule #1. Well #2 after don't be a dick - if a musician/talent is in the crowd listening to music, leave them the Fuck alone. (sorry mom.) NFF is the one place people of fame can have a few moments of normal. That is the ultimate distinction of the NFF audience. A yr or so back at the quad there was a talent stage right, listening, watching Milk Carton Kids and enthralled. Everyone was so wonderfully quiet as you need to be with MCK. All of a sudden Joe Dranktoomuch notices said musician and starts in for the contact. This man in the crowd.. tall as but 1/4 weight version of Jaws from 007 grabs Joe D by the neck scruff, picks him up, gives him the mom 'oh no you DONT finger' then set him back down as gently as can be. There was quiet applause from those of us watching. When the set ended a bunch of folkers went up to jaws-light and thanked him. There were hugs. Talent had no idea. Jaws light was the Sweetest! "NO ONE bothers someone listening to music on my watch!" That's NFF. Rule #2 applies to spying Juggs too. THAT is NFF.
Yes talk to people!! Have met folkers who have been to EVERY NFF (poster line friday am is where you find these amazing folks!!!) Don't just 'Radiate Positivity'.. at NFF be good to folkers and the little fockers. Helped with an older gentleman and gave up a front spot to a lovely women of more age than I. Danced together for Lean On Me. Damn near cried - both of us. Turned out to be Momma Sweet. I am so clueless with people that are 'someone'. Shall never forget the interaction, stories, wait what with Joan Baez? Someone needs to write Jay's book and include wait for it.. 'Sweet Connie's' version. That is NFF.
I was mistaken and thought I had Friday tickets but now see I have Saturday tickets. Is there anyone that would like to swap? It’s for two adults and two kids plus one parking pass. Thanks.

#43 in line for Steal Your Folk #25 in line for Mavis aftershow
Hopefully this starts to drop more in the next week. I'm all set if these don't work out through Lyte but I really want to catch Steal your Folk. But seeing Deer Tick and Milk Carton Kids is absolutely not a bad plan B
Following on from the earlier post giving thanks to Jay. Absolutely. Before attending Newport for the first time I'd all but given up on contemporary music. That first festival was eye opening. It was like finding the lost land of great music. The lineup annoucements span almost half a year now. Half a year of fun discoveries. Jay has his finger on the pulse. But when you get to know every announcement you grow to love far more than you can ever see. I'm like a deer in headlights. Screw it. I'll figure it out on the day. Will probably wing it. The post today about splitting sets was spot on. Having a great spot for an artist you're enjoying is better than seeing two sets from way back. Travelling between stages while both are playing is lost time and you just get the worst spot. Btw if your blanket is near the main stage in front of the standing area be prepared to be invaded a little later in the day close to headliner. If thats not for you maybe get a spot back a little further. Just get to know people and have fan. One week to go!!!

You reminded me of one more thing. The race for the blanket spots is overrated. It is for us anyway because we can't be out in the sun that long. I suppose if you are planning to spend the day at the fort stage it could be worth it to have a prime blanket spot, but more often than not when we are at the stage, we want to be standing at the front. We end up using the blanket as more of a place to keep our stuff and maybe, at most, sit through one set in the afternoon.
If you are looking for a great blanket spot, as Womble said, you want to be about 75 feet back from the line so that you can still use it in the afternoon. There are a few spots that get a little shade from the a-v/camera stand in the middle but those get taken in the first two minutes.
Based on Newport's twitter post hyping Steve Gunn's music, I'm guessing that if the First Ladies of Bluegrass are not the TBA early Saturday set, then Steve Gunn is. Playing the early slot would give him enough time to get to VT for his show that night.

Hmm. I missed the part where we knew he was playing at the Milk Carton Kids after show on Friday. Cool to know he’ll be around.
Also, if he’s the TBA, I hope it’s announced. An artist I definitely think I’d like but haven’t actually really ever explored- would love the push to check his recorded music out first.

Long time lurker here! Headed to my 4th NFF this year and still enjoying all of the tips. I’m wondering where most people stand on this - Do you prefer to catch full sets or try to hop around to see more music? I think one of the great things about the fest is how easy it is to get from one side of the grounds to the other but is it worth it to catch a few minutes of another artist rather than staying put? (I’m a hopper but my bf is a full-setter)

The way I see it, I’ve never had a favorite set of the weekend that I hopped out of. Part of it is selection effect - the sets that approach favorite status are not ones I want to leave. But part of it is the fact that you just get more out of a set by sticking through the whole thing.
For instance, last year, did you really see Hamilton + Rostam if you left before Maggie Rogers joined them on stage? You never know when there might be a guest appearance, and leaving early or coming late would be a shame if you missed something special.
That said, the beauty of Newport is how easy it is to hop. In some cases, if you’re watching an act on the Fort or Quad. you can easily check out an act on the Harbor and only miss a song or two. This is especially beneficial at Newport when there’s an act you can’t miss but you can count on that Harbor Stage act being the next big thing and it’s be a total shame if you completely missed seeing them before they were big.
For me, if I’m checking out an act in my top 10, I’m staying put. But if I’m casually checking something out, especially something slower or more singer-songwritier, I’m not opposed to stepping away for a few songs that I may not have ever heard to give someone else a chance. You never know when that someone else might wow you more (even if you weren’t all that into them on record).
