I also wasn’t wowed by the first Highwomen single. I LOVE Brandi though, so that would be a very tough set for me to skip. Helps that I’ll see her perform the next weekend at Hinterland. Defo considering checking out Angie McMahon in the museum and missing most of the Highwomen at this point. Do we think we will get any more Highwomen songs before NFF? Would be a huge help for sure!
I'm sure Angie McMahon is gonna kill it, I wish they weren't overlapping

By far, worst conflict for me. Even more brutal than Morby vs. Dacus. I’m just going to keep telling Newport and Angie in social channels that Angie needs a second set in either the former Paste Ruins or in the Family Tent... or to get bumped up to that TBA Harbour Stage set (I mean, she’s more popular than most acts on the Harbour Stage).
"Carlile was also asked to curate the first all-female headlining set at Newport Folk Festival next weekend, where the Highwomen will make their official live debut. She’s going to call it “The Highwomen of Newport.”

Would think that the idea of the First Ladies of Bluegrass being the backing band is likely

Interesting.
I also realized Amy Ray has that Saturday off before moving on to XPNfest on Sunday. Indigo Girls part of that Sat headlining set?
Figured I’d just let others know even with the lukewarm reception to the single:
The HighWomen’s store is live (https://store.thehighwomen.com/). Might give you a preview of some of the merch they could have on sale next week (that jean jacket is pretty cool).
Also, since there are some big Brandi fans here, first 400 people to preorder the vinyl LP get a signed poster from the band as well.
I combined the schedule breakdown that was provided by another user here (ehfriendlycanadian) and merged it with the map. I was going to do each day separately with the map alongside it, so it could act as a singular resource without having to rely on the phone app. Thoughts?

I like it. Something someone said yesterday got me thinking. It might be good to move the Museum and Harbor stage to the middle columns in order. Then you can visually see what the closest stage is to one you're at. Might be a good help to stage hoppers. Not sure how easy that would be.
Just a reminder that the Quad Stage schedule shifted on Friday so that schedule needs updated slightly. And it’s possible it’ll shift again by next weekend.

My group is staying over in Narraganset this year since we are coming in early and staying later for a few beach days. Anyone ever make this trip and how much of a headache are in we in for?

Does that rolling stone quote mean that “the collaboration” is just high women plus guests? It does specifically say headlining set and hw aren’t headlining.
Perhaps Friday is focused on new songs from the record and Saturday is just an all lady cover review, curated by brandi???

I don’t think so. The gist of the article is that the Highwomen is not a band, it’s a movement (as much as I am excited for the project... I find this a little cheesy). Thus, anyone can be a Highwoman, and so a collaboration of all females is also the Highwomen even if it’s not just Brandi, Maren, Amanda, and Natalie.

Sometimes articles will say an act is headlining a festival but they dont mean what we take it to mean. Like how articles will list a few big, recognizable names and say they're headlining when really they are playing a late night set or something. It's happened a few times with Bonnaroo
Not everybody obsessed over music festivals like us lol
I think the Highwomen first single sounds forced. Parts of it are really good but some parts are not, especially the beginning of the song. Hopefully the rest of the album is not like that. The Chain sounds amazing.
Then why specify it as a headlining set when the schedule is public and its clear the highwomen aren’t headlining? Seems a bit off to me
Technically, it doesn’t say that the Highwomen are headlining. It says that the Highwomen are making their live debut and that Carlisle is curating an all female headliner that she is calling the “Highwomen of Newport,” which I imagine is referring to the Saturday headliner.
Just a quick question. I am one of those childless people that love the family tent (and no, its not just for the chips). Is there a schedule ever posted for this tent like they use to have for the Paste Ruin sets? Or do you have to rely on the app? I've never seen a schedule, but figured I'd see if I was missing something. Would make some conflicts more bearable.

That was my interpretation as well. Highwomen making their debut on Friday and Brandi curating the Saturday closer are separate things.

I know in the past they've announced sets on the app, but it's like short notice. Less than a half hour or so.

I'm pretty sure they have written the schedule out first thing in the morning, but then its erased and replaced with the current artist once people start performing. I'm sure you could ask some of the Late July staff and someone would know.
On my phone so idk how to embed the posts but Hiss Golden Messenger posted the cover of Graham Nash’s Songs for Beginners on Instagram and tagged Newport. Jay Sweet also posted it and said “It’s all happening”

Can I just say how thrilled I am that the festival is next weekend, when the highs are currently predicted to peak in the low 80s, and not this weekend, when the highs are predicted to melt your face?
