Anybody in the Newport/Boston area hear anything on the news about whether they expect the storm in the Caribbean that has a potential to develop to impact the weather in Newport at all? The initial path looks to send it in that direction, but Florida stations are only interested in whether or not it’ll impact us here.
Got Mavis tickets! Pretty close and feeling good on Steal Your Folk
Still on the hunt for a 3-day GA if anyone's got eyes on one
Special guests at the Mavis show are a given, and Jeff Tweedy and Hozier are absolute locks.
Mavis is playing Friday night in Beverly, MA at a show that's very do-able via MBTA commuter rail. I'd just as soon wait for her to play Boston, though, since it's unlikely that any of her Saturday night special guests will be showing up in Beverly on Friday. (JT's in NYC, H is in Philly, and I can't see anyone else making the trip up with her.)
If anyone runs into Jason Isbell this weekend, please remind him that it's been two years since he's played Boston.
Nice ... I was like "wait....I'm 19?" Then I checked just now and see I moved up to 14.
Still at 42 for steal your folk so I'm losing hope on that.
Though plan b of Milk Carton Kids is still an amazing show. Just kinda wanted to get that grateful dead special set in. We will see
Yeah I’m 49 for steal your face unfortunately, don’t have high hopes for that one
For NFF after shows - Is there a solution for folks who aren't getting in on the waitlist? Secondary market? Showing up at the venue box office day-of?

NWS is showing mostly sunny and ~80 all three days for Newport. According to Norton's* last forecaster's discussion high pressure dominates Fri and Sat, while humidity creeps in on Sunday as the high moves eastward. There's no mention of anything in the Caribbean, and based on usual factors - something that far south would take around a week to get this far north.
* Norton = the NWS office in Norton, Mass., which covers RI and southern New England in general
For those of you who have fallen in love with Angie McMahon like I have since her announcement (psst ilovethisgame), in case you didn’t know, her album drops on Friday. Museum stage album release party!
Also... I’m not sure if anyone on this board has heard of Magnolia Record Club. It’s a subscription record club in which they send you a record every month (you can opt out for a given month as I usually do because I can’t justify buying a new record each month). That said... it’s run by Drew Holcomb, a friend of many in the folk scene, and he gets a lot of great curators to pick the artist of the month and write a short little note about the chosen artist. Since I’ve joined I’ve received a limited edition colored vinyl from Maggie Rogers and Better Oblivion Community Center. But the reason why I mention this is because they also have an artist discovery album of the month and this month it is Angie McMahon and a limited edition white vinyl of her new album.

I've been a member of Magnolia for about a year and a half now and I love it! I got the Angie McMahon add on this month without listening to a song just because I knew she was playing the Museum stage.
I've gotten several records recently that I've really liked, many of whom are Newport alums or playing this year: Birdtalker, Caamp, Gregory Alan Isakov, Lake Street Dive, Milk Carton Kids, Tall Heights, The War and Treaty, The Wild Reeds. I really liked last month's record, which was a collection of live recordings from Holcomb's Moon River festival in Tennessee. That included songs from I'm With Her, Caamp, Joseph, The War and Treaty, and Mandolin Orange among others.

Trying to find a way into Steal Your Folk....
Not totally sure about the other venues but the Deer Tick shows tend to have people line up who they eventually may start letting in. Can't hurt to hang near the venue for people who have an extra and are looking to unload it.
Not to necessarily promote consumerism, because a pair of shorts and shirt is all you really need to enjoy Newport, but what are the best products that can make a trip to Newport more comfortable/enjoyable?
Have you found a favorite blanket? Cooler? Folding chair that can be easily packed in luggage? Portable fan? Poncho?
Just wondering if there’s anything I’m missing before it’s too late.
The top 2 things I recommend are a camelbak and a hat. It's always super hot, so staying cool and hydrated is of utmost importance for enjoying your Newport experience. A camelbak is so much better than a water bottle because it holds way more water and more importantly allows you to keep your hands free. I used to carry a water bottle around and after switching I will never go back. A hat is self explanatory, but it does wonders for keeping the energy up by keeping the sun out of direct contact with your head and face. If you don't have a good sun hat, there are several vendors that will have theme for sale.
Talk about a band that has exploded in popularity since last year’s day opening set.
Edit: Found the segment. So they’ll be there in some capacity, and Jay hinted at their album dropping on Friday instead of revealing too much. First- this is awesome because they were my favorite discovery last year. Second- how on earth are they fitting in on Friday? Album release in the Family Tent seems strange? I could see them given the Passenger busking spot in between sets though. Or a late night guest, maybe with Milk Carton Kids?

NFF Podcast includes Tench. He confirms that he will have a solo piano set. No planned guests as of yet.
He also said he'll be around all weekend and plans to play in a few other sets. He specifically shouted out Dawes, so I wouldn't be surprised if he plays with them

Maybe that is the reason why Yola is starting at 11:30. Maybe Caamp is doing a quick set before her.

I'm actually leaning towards Caamp being TBA. On the NFF podcast, Anais Mitchell said she'll be around all weekend and will be participating in the Cook Bros and Hiss aftershows. That makes me think that the Graham Nash album will be part of Hiss's aftershow instead of during the fest, but who knows?

Either they'd be playing for 15 minutes, or they'd be starting at like 10:30 in the morning. Neither of which seems like it'd happen.
For those who haven’t heard the podcast yet, what was the caamp news and how was it phrased? Thanks!
It was basically Jay talking to Bob about Caamp. Jay said 'you know how bands just show up at Newport? Well i can't say anything yet but lets just say Caamp have an album out Friday'. That's not exact but he pretty much confirmed it.

thanks, just listened to it now and i would say thats as close to confirmation of the TBA act as we are gonna get. now how i am going to deal with the conflict with Jade Bird....
The break on the Quad between Lukas Nelson and Highwomen is 35 minutes (longer than any other break). Maybe Caamp will do a busking set during that gap.
Really gotta hope Newport didn't take a page from the Boston Calling playbook by replacing an exceptionally talented and creative woman of color with some of the blandest whitebread on the market...

Yeah I’m really hoping that replacement for NoName is comparable.
