Just an FYI, I go a little nuts in the casino. I hit $10,000 on a slot last weekend so I'm gonna be slinging some cash at the casino this weekend, especially since I get a 30% discount on the exchange rate lol.

I think I'm gonna go to the Hito/Bob Moses/Fisher after show on Friday so no casino that night but its fucking on Thursday and Saturday night! Look for the cute fat dude in Adidas athletic pants and a black Adidas hat.

Oh btw this is the bus details they tweeted me:
Replying to @nicklphoto and @casinomontreal Hi! Bus 777 is a shuttle that you can take at Metro Jean-Drapeau. It will take you directly to the Casino! You can also walk to the casino (15-20min)
Just got here. My fuck did they fuck up the main stage area. The soundboard placed such that being right in between the 2 main stages is no longer the ideal spot. On the contrary, unless you're in front of them, you basically have to choose which stage to watch
Lumineers, Flume, Fisher, Joji, and Bobbo were all perfect.
They did have issues at the electronic stage though.
Need to figure out a better plan for getting back to Montreal after. We hoofed it over the bridge. Hour walk but better than being a sardine in that metro line.
Gotta say that I loved that Flume set. Guy didnt pretend to push buttons a lot of the time. His “show” was different. But bringing out Jpeg, Reo and Kai was perfect.
I can't sleep in, so I may as well give my day 1 thoughts, too.
1. Not sure if me and dreamaroo watched the same Flume set. I can appreciate that he was trying for... something. But watching him beat the shit out of a printer and do crafts for an hour isn't what I look for in a concert. The setlist was ok though, and I guess the lighting was decent 🤷♂️
2. Like I said yesterday, some of the new layout changes really aren't good. Aside from putting the main stage soundboards too close to the stages and expanding the hell out of the VIP platform (both of which make for terrible sightlines for us plebes), they've also built structures in areas that used to be open. The result is really bad bottlenecking everywhere. This is most obvious and annoying at the green stage.
3. No Mandy's salad truck makes me sad In fact, there seem to be fewer unique food stalls overall this year.
4. Despite impressive new speaker towers, the sound at the main stages has been hit or miss. They better figure that shit out for Chem Bros. tonight.
Overall, so far I'm pretty disappointed in the "grand return" to the original site. I have more acts I'm looking forward to in the next couple days though, so maybe that'll sway my opinion.
Best: St Paul and the Broken Bones, Teke Teke, Fischer Worst: Interpol, Flume Day 1 MVP: The Sangria vendors
Our first ever Osheaga day is in the books. Some impressions:
The grounds - agree with Gooloo- the sight lines at the main stages are screwed up, blocked by the sound board tents, masts, or whatever- defeating the benefits of side by side stages. - bring bandanas if you’re coming today-the dust is awful. Did the reconstruction take away a lot of grass and trees? Couldn’t find a patch of green grass anywhere. Humidity was a very low 33%, comfortable but adding to the dust issue. Reminds me of Firefly 2014 after the Woodlands expanded (cleared trees), leaving toxic dust levels. - the grounds are huge- much bigger than I expected. Maybe this becomes the Coachella of the east? Swallows up a big crowd pretty well. Saw lots of Coachella-like outfits and costumes, too. - plenty of water stations around. No waiting. Well done!
Food - poutine is good! Carbs, protein- filled us up for the night. For the uninitiated, it’s fries, gravy and cheese curds. Sounds gross, but it’s not.
Music-this is why we come to festivals. Favorites: 1) Mitski crushed it- musically impeccable and she’s added a whole choreography routine 2) Sharon Van Etten- love her new album, which comprised half the set 3) St Paul- I can’t believe that voice comes from that body... 4) Lumineers- I “like” them- still not sure they’re a major headliner- but they stepped it up with a bigger band and rolled out new material. I guess I’d rather watch them than skip a bigger headliner I have no interest in... 5) Interpol Partial sets of Kurt Vile (I should have stayed for whole set, since main stage was packed by the time we got there), JPEG Mafia.
Thanks for the tips on the water hoses (thought you were joking,) and the Metro. It’s crucial to get the 3 day pass- there was a huge line to purchase tickets on the way out.
3rd Osheaga - I drive up from NY and I wish GovBall was more like this fest. Have to agree about the dust and the sightlines. Crowd is all ages and youngsters seemed relatively well behaved? Maybe I just have PTSD from last GovBall?
My top 5: Mitski - second time seeing her set this year and it did not lose any impact. Amazing. Sharon van Etten - love her and the new album Kurt Vile - was planning to maybe split with Flume, but could not leave this set. Perfect evening/night set (except for the bugs). He got an extra 10 minutes or so also! Interpol - got really close for the set, really enjoyed it, but wasn’t the ideal set list for my tastes. Can’t have everything. Charlotte de Witte - loved it
Random thoughts: island stage seems small but really I didn’t feel overcrowded. Joji sounded awful from afar. Poutine at 1pm held me all day (along with many beers). Poutine is awesome.
Unreal how close we're able to get for chem bros right now
I dunno man I was up in the VIP rafters and that crowd was THICK. But if you were able to work your way in front of the VIP area then swing left, that part was very empty because of the bottleneck where VIP and Platinum almost meet.

Oh it got thick, alright
...But compared to other headliners in past years, it was really easy to get close while the last sub was still going. I'm not complaining; that first part of the light show was incredible.
Wowzas. I almost never just stay at the mains, but yesterday it was totally worth it.
Lennon Stella> King Princess> Said the Sky> Janelle> City and Color> Logic> Chemical Brothers
Pretty much everything was as great as expected (Chemical Brothers, Janelle, King Princess), or a pleasant surprise (Lennon Stella, Logic). The only dud was Said the Sky, which was like corny trance turned brostep.
Looking forward to today... but I still have no idea who to choose between Childish/Sebastien. Or Koze/Koffee/T Whack :S
Day 2- Thanks for the craft beer tips- starting the day with a nice draft IPA was the way to go. That food court area is really nice, with grass, tables, good food choices and two craft beer trucks. The app is no help in finding food and beverage choices, though, and I haven’t seen a paper map at all.
As usual, once we learned where everything is and best routes to get around, the grounds seemed “smaller” than they first did. The maze of barriers at the main stages make sense- establishing a stage-to-highway, and creating large “pens” for each stage, which cuts down the crossing foot traffic in the closer viewing areas.
Musically, we enjoyed: - King Princess- incredible stage presence and talent for a 20-year old - Janelle Monáe: a headliner-worthy set complete with multiple costume changes, dancers, etc. We staked out a good spot early. Would like to have seen her show after dark. - Young the Giant - Beach House and partial sets from Lennon Stella, Rufus du Sol, and Schoolboy Q. Q likes to hop on one foot while holding his junk- I’m gonna try that dance at the next wedding reception I go to.
Day 2 review: Chemical brothers were as good as I expected and were my set of the day. US Girls were great also. Otherwise saw and enjoyed a lot of stuff I learned about with the lineup drop. Also some conflicts made me spilt a few sets which I don’t usually like to do (Grandson/Monae, Sales/Vladimir Cauchemar/Young Thug).
1 Chemical Brothers 2-5 (in no order): US Girls Anemone - I literally walked by and liked the sound and I’m glad I did. More musical and maybe even psychedelic than expected Black Tiger Sex Machine Les Louanges
Today is main stages from Mac Demarco on. Feel I haven’t been there much yet! Already loved Fontaines DC today.
Mac DeMarco-Hozier-Tame Impala-Childish Gambino is the best finish to a festival I’ve ever seen.
Osheaga fun fact: three Indie artists released a song called “Nobody” in the last year. We saw all three perform their version this weekend at Osheaga!
