With Earl added I really love this line up, even though I have cooled on EDM. Strongly considering attending if I can get some friends on board.
Why is he so low on the lineup though
He’s 10 out of 24 on that day not considering local or vip. Seems like he could be 7-8-9-10 and be okay. But he’s not going to be booked ahead of $uicideboy$ on up. It’s his 3rd time at Buku, and I’d expect him to have a late afternoon or evening set in the ballroom. Ella Mai is maybe arguable, but Goldenvoice is giving her a push in 2019.
yves tumor also super low. below from first to last without skrillex dj set? really?
Let me ask you because I’m a bit ignorant of what he does outside of a couple of hours I have invested in YouTube and little bits of research. I read he was from Knoxville and moved to (shroud of) Turin and had toured for over a year with Mikki Blanco who I saw in your city and I think is from there. What I can get is there is a lot of vocal noises - screams, sounds, grunts and shit - maybe live looped and a mixture of dance and hyper aggressive sounds that almost seem like magazine clips being squeezed off. Is that what I’m likely to get? And assuming he is in the ballroom, it seems like it would make the most sense to maybe utilize him to play before Death Grips? Usually it’s about 30 minutes (sometimes 15) between sets in the ballroom. People will go catch other shit while others are coming in to post up, but it seems kind of natural. Also, is Houston a hard 2am or would you think Excision in what he is going there would be on later? Thanks Jim.

Lol. I'm screwed. (blue = high priority, green = mid priority, no color = don't care)

I want to see so many acts that it's kind of hard to plan out, so... I'll shoot for the blue ones, and wherever the day/night takes me is what happens. That's how you find great new music, anyway
First couple of official after shows have been released - both of The Joy Theater shows. There should be 4 or 5 more to go. Both of these shows will go to 5 or 6am.
I’ll probably go to the Joy Saturday after show. Also there is a decent sort of metal/industrial Thursday show at HoB for anyone coming in early. It’s Lords of Acid, Orgy, Genitorturers and Little Miss Nasty.
I'm hitting the Wakaan Takeover on Saturday. With the Super VIP you get one comp'd show, and I think it's going to be hard to top Saturday. I don't know what else they're planning on doing. In the past, they've done 2 Joy shows, 2 Republic shows, 1 or 2 Gasa Gasa shows and then Compression on Saturday and Bass Church on Sunday at Dragon's Den. Someone on Reddit said that Bass Church was permanently banned because of NIMBY's in the neighborhood bitching about the noise. So if they don't go with an alternative to Dragon's Den, it may be that they only do 2 shows at Republic and 1 or 2 at Gasa Gasa besides the Joy shows that have already been announced. Republic is the closest venue to Mardi Gras World (walking distance), and they usually have hip hop and house shows there for Buku weekend. But it's possible they'll do something more dub or trap. They always bring in mid/upper-mid card acts that aren't on the lineup for some of the afterparty slots (for instance we got LUZCID, G-Rex, Easybaked, LSDREAM and Shlump on Saturday). I'm going to need like 50 cups of coffee that day. 3pm-6am is going to be a mfer. Sunday after Buku is always a crosseyed kind of day.
I can't imagine they won't do an afterparty GRiZ show. He's usually involved almost every year (lineup or afterparties). And then you have Claude Von Stroke and Fisher, so they may end up doing some kind of Dirty Bird house/techno show at Republic one of the nights and maybe cross that with an Earl or Freedia appearance or something. IDK. Problem is, last year they waited until the weekend before Buku to make the last announcement. So who knows what we end up with? Also, Freewater and Pink Room might be doing warehouse parties somewhere be they official or unsanctioned. That also remains to be seen. 7 Weeks from today baby \m/
When does the schedule usually come out, by the way? A couple weeks prior?
It was February 23 last year with the Festival on March 9-10. So 2 weeks before. They used to give you more time until Goldenvoice who is notorious for waiting til late in the game to put out a schedule. I guess with 6 weeks to go, they’ll put out the app, more late shows, food information and such so maybe news here and there. I’m ready for this to happen.

Wheels are in motion on this for me. Please for the love of god put Death Grips in the Float Den. I know Ballroom is more likely but I am going to keep chirping about this until the schedule drops. See y'all in March.

No question they will be in the Ballroom. I expect Kevin Gates to be in there too.
While waiting for other news to happen, Buku did note in their vibes section that The Wharf stage is back in 2019 and reimagined with massive production. That was a side stage along the river that generally had house dj's on last year which was its debut. I can see them alternating some of the local stuff with some of the house acts like Claude Vonstroke, Fisher, Kasbo, The Black Madonna or Mason Maynard
Speaking of The Black Madonna, this is actually her New Orleans performance debut. She noted on Buku's Instagram:
blackmadonnachi I can’t wait to be there. New Orleans is my favorite city in America. It’s my honor to finally play there! Usually I just come for a vacation and eat all the beignets!!!

Your username + avatar makes me want to watch Breaking Bad again for the third time. Thanks. Also, yes to Death Grips.

I have a feeling it's going to be spectacular. I'm just excited. Life's been a bit of a fucked-up roller coaster for me lately so I'm excited to put that on pause for a minute and just bask in good music, food, and culture.

I know you're probably right and the only thing that I'm holding out hope with is the precedent that was set with $uicideboy$ being in the den in 2017. Not that I can complain really given that DG is one of my favorite acts to see live anywhere right now.
They put in some updates on Social Media. Here are some:
1) New Liquid Stranger album is being released on 2/15 - looks like it's about 40% collaborative stuff
2) Saturday's late night Wakaan Takeover tickets are running low. This will definitely sell out SOLD OUT - probably in the next couple of days. No telling what type of premium it's going to mandate, but I'd think if anyone who was going wanted to grab an extra, you can probably get $50-75 for it at the venue night of. Alternatively, if something else comes up on Saturday (with Skrillex in town, you already know something's going down with him), you can sell this one and buy that.
3) GA Tier 3 ends tomorrow night. A fairly reliable rumor around the city is that Buku will be selling out this year and not just a "day before" kind of declared sell out. The value for dollar is pretty high at this particularly considering most of the other small and mid-size festival lineups so far.
Tuesday late update is it looks like the Friday Joy show will also sell out shortly.
2019 app got released today. It’s okay so far but mostly just band/artist info. Also, they posted the tweet below. I think the announcement is that they will announce another night show or two. Rumors are that there will be some kind of rock or emo show, so maybe an actual From First to Last show? Seems like a waste to have 3 of the 4 band members in town without an actual show. IDK. Maybe Skrillex gets an aftershow also or part of that? Griz? Peekaboo? Preparty? Wish I had some more info...

Hyped for some juicy Valentine's day announcements
Satchmo Concert Line shows Delish da Goddess as a Buku Late (UNOFFICIAL) afterparty on Friday 1:00am (technically Saturday) at Howlin' Wolf for $10.00. I actually don't know Delish, but apparently she's from here. Looks like she is an underground hard lesbian or non-binary-gender rapper. I'll try to find out who else is on that lineup. In the meantime, don't be getting up in Delish's way or she might fuck you up or use that leather.
...Delish Da Goddess Underground Rap
Delish Da Goddess grew up in a small town in Louisiana called Violet, southeast of New Orleans. She grew up listening to many genres and is influenced strongly by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Tina Turner, Joan Jett, Whitney Houston and Billie Holiday.
Delish performs regularly around New Orleans and quite frequently as an emcee and house performance talent at Poor Boys Bar.
Having recently won Best Rap and Bounce at the 2018 Big Easy Awards she is very excited to put together her coming tour dates of 2018. Delish can also be seen featured on Diplo’s mini web series “Blow Your Head”.
Delish has performed with artist such as Big Freedia, Peaches, Rusty Lazer, Le1f, UK band Bones and Sophie. She has made a name for herself inside and outside of the greater state of Louisiana.
Delish, who has put out 7 Ep’s and 6 singles in 4 years, has developed compilations with other underground and independent artist such as Wolftone, Team Buffy, Stash Marina, and Lucky. She has cultivated a strong local relationship and bond which has made her “The leader of New Orleans’ DIY hip-hop movement” – OffBeat Magazine.
Hmmm. I'm surprised they don't have shit else in that announcement. Maybe a Skrillex set? Maybe more to be added later? I doubt FFTL would be able to play for 3-4 hours on their own.
?
From the Republic's Website:
From First To Last announced that its first live performance in over two years will take place on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Republic in New Orleans. The rare show will be presented by Emo Nite LA and BUKU Music + Art Project as part of the two-day festival’s “BUKU Late” after-party series, the first performance from the band since their 2017 reunion at Emo Nite’s acclaimed Los Angeles party, which marked their first time playing together in over a decade. The lineup will feature drummer Derek Bloom; lead guitarist and keyboardist Matt Good; rhythm guitarist and vocalist Travis Richter; and lead vocalist and guitarist Sonny Moore a/k/a Skrillex, whose Dog Blood project with Boys Noize is headlining BUKU.
Tickets are on sale here starting this Friday, February 15th at 12pm CT. Admission to the show is independent from BUKU and must be purchased separately. Both General Admission and VIP tickets are available. VIP tickets include: one (1) exclusive “Make War” / “Surrender” vinyl; one (1) limited edition From First To Last t-shirt designed in collaboration with lifestyle brand PLEASURES, VIP-only balcony viewing and VIP-only early entry to the venue.

This is a huge rare show for the audience, does it need to be four hours? But if so, Emo Nites are usually very long it could be opening and closing, with the FFTL set in the middle
It doesn't need to be 3-4 hours, but Republic Buku afterparty shows generally are (not the same act for that long - I was just being facetious since they didn't put the rest of the bill on there). Those shows don't start until 1:00am as the festival ends. The Joy shows usually go to about 4:45/5:00am at least. Republic I think depends. You'd think if it's not a Skrillex DJ set - which would obviously be fine by anyone there already for From First to Last = maybe they'll tap one or more of the emo/punk/metalcore/sludge* bands - Mayday Parade, Dashboard Confessional, We Came as Romans or THOU* - for support. It also says Skrillex is in town at least for Friday and Saturday if not more.
They still have probably 2 or 3 more official afterparty shows and then maybe a pre-party one to go. Republic Saturday remains to be seen.
* I completely missed that Thou was on the lineup. That's a sludge metal band from Baton Rouge that's been around 13-14 years or so. I can't understand anything the singer sings, but it's apparently anarchist/hardcore themes. I also am not a big fan of sludge metal. I always liked my metal harder and faster than Sludge and Doom. That style kind of emerged out of New Orleans with bands like Crowbar, EYEHATEGOD some of Down, etc. but is sort of influence off of things like Black Sabbath and later The Melvins and whatnot.

god, I love everything skrilly touches but I've never been a fan of emo music (happy for all those that are excited though)
me in gif form -
hopefully we still get a dog blood /or/ skrill afterparty on Saturday
Same. I loved hardcore, which emo was not. None of my kids were into emo or screamo back then and explained to me what scene kids were. Parents can learn too when they listen. Nevertheless, barring something I want to do on Friday after 1am, I may pick up a ticket just for the rarity of it.
