Chance is a bonafide headliner though, and Lorde isn't. So...if you flipped that and it was Ocean/Cure/Chance with subs being Lorde/Chem Bros/Lana that could work.
I feel like Elton would be the best fit this coming year, but I doubt he turns down the chance to do LA shows for Coachella.
Also anybody not thinking Run the Jewels would ANNIHILATE in the new Sahara isn't using their imagination enough. That would be legendary.
Think Mitski could get a second line bump up with a new album? She releases one minimum every other year.
Seems pretty clear Mitski ain't playing again unless something big changes with ownership. She was probably the most high profile critic of the fest after the Anschutz political stuff came out.

Ehhhh I don't know man. The only year she was vocally critical of it she took the gig anyway. Many thought Bassnectar would never play Coachella again for the political reasons and he was happy to do so. You would think Janelle, King Princess, Cola Boyy, and other artists with explicitly queer and/or anti-capitalism stances would make a statement by turning down the fest, but they were happy to play this year. I remember reading a rumor that Fever Ray turned down Coachella because of AEG but honestly if the money and billing is right, artists seem more than willing to play still.

She'd already been booked when that controversy broke though, and made it pretty clear she wouldn't have taken it if she'd known before. None of those other artists spoke out about it as far as I know. I can't find another AEG venue she's played since then (not that I know every AEG venue). I don't think we should make any assumptions that *other* artists care about it, but all signs point to her being out IMO.

Thank you. Finally. RTJ is perfect for the new Sahara and I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise. I'm just going to run with RTJ night Sahara for a year lol.
I think there will be a better mix of larger rock/indie. edm, hip hop, and r&B. I think that will start at the top, personally I would like to see a Frank Ocean/The Cure/Lorde top line, with Subs being Chance, Chem Bros, and Lana. I think with that you could fill out the lineup with a bunch of different genres and types and ensure a broad selection of people attend with different musical tastes. THis year honestly it seemed like it was pretty diverse and all the crowds were respectable but then again it did not sell well.
This is literally you just wanting different acts. What you've suggested is not more diverse than it was this year, it's just stuff you like more (which is fine, but just say that)

Let's stop talking about The Cure. They've already said they're going to do big LA shows around Christmas time. They're out

She played 4 Brooklyn Steel shows in November/December, and had a bunch of other GV-promoted dates throughout her tour. It's possible she's just not asking questions about it (it's not like the first time anyone heard about the Anschutz stuff was 2017), but she's continued to work with AEG after her comments. It wouldn't surprise me if they just thought 2 years was too soon, or if she's decided to stop playing Coachella because of the visibility but to continue playing AEG shows because they control so many venues.

I think Elton is extremely likely next year and I suspect we will start hearing noise about him headlining as the year goes on
Elton would be an enormous party on the fields. I have to imagine there is a lot more overlap with younger fans and songs they'd recognize compared to a Neil Young or The Who booking (Circle of Life alone), he'll have the movie to prop him up, the farewell tour will be a big selling point, and all they'd have to do is sprinkle Van Morrison and/or Stevie Nicks on the outdoor and they'd be able to draw an older fanbase just like they were able to do with AC/DC and Steely Dan in 2015, and that would help move tickets.
I think Bohemian Rhapsody showed everybody that the younger generation (and everybody else) still appreciate the hell out of the classics. If Rocket Man is just as successful, it’ll put Elton John under the same spotlight and Bohemian Rhapsody did for Queen.
