There was a ton of smoke around their being booked last year. Wonder if it ever happens.
Can definitely see them playing at some point. Maybe even 2020 if they extend WorldWired Tour a little bit more. They have Europe all Summer, and then Aus/NZ in the fall that wraps up in November.
Can totally see some concluding dates in Feb-Apr finishing with Coachella.

For kicks, an ideal / semi-possible top-2 lines for next year:
Chance the Rapper Vampire Weekend * A$AP Rocky * The National * ZHU * Grimes * Flying Lotus
Rihanna Disclosure * FKA Twigs * the Chemical Brothers * Ozuna * M.I.A. * Young Thug
Adele Flume * Yeah Yeah Yeahs * Thom Yorke * Run The Jewels * RL Grime * Stormzy
With Hot Chip, Frou Frou, Stereolab, Yaeji, Julien Baker, Warpaint, Bombino below. Anything glaringly wrong with those billings / reasons why they wouldn't be booked?

I don't think it's super realistic at this point, but it would be among the more exciting options we can have.
Assuming The Boss is touring for 3-12 months in some solo format to support the new solo album, we can pretty much cross him off any Coachella/DT 2019 list. He would only headline a fest with E Street.
It would sell out so fast if Rihanna and Adele played the same year. I honestly don't care who headlines. At this point I'll go regardless, the undercard is way more important. Any combo of Adele/Kanye/Coldplay/Frank/SOAD(I know it's an unpopular opinion that they can headline) is my wish list for headliners. It would be kinda cool to get coheadliners again. I know I got a lot of eye rolls last time, but a Spice Girls sub would be really cool.

just being really nit-picky for the sake of discussion, I dunno if I vibe with having both Disclosure and Flume subheadlining on the same poster. I mostly believe that either could do it in a vacuum (though I think Disclosure's a better fit for that slot in general), but to have both on two successive days doesn't feel precedented to me. plus you're missing the "Sunset EDM" slot (usually Sunday but 2018 was Friday) which is a year-in year-out lock at this point. I'd also say if the National is getting booked they're a subheadliner.
Flume I think I like better as 3rd on Sunday for that EDM Sunset slot, assuming he drops another pop album
EDIT: cleaned up a lot of my random thoughts here hah

I think that's too high for M.I.A., and I don't think they'd book her again barring some major momentum. I think they'd book the YYYs again, but not that high without a pretty successful crossover album. I do think we've missed the Chems for this cycle (and unfortunately, probably for good).

I'd also say if the National is getting booked they're a subheadliner. RL Grime I like better as 3rd on Sunday for that EDM Sunset slot.
EDIT: actually I guess this billing could be the same and map loosely to 2017 if they just put RL Grime 3rd main and give YYYs an Outdoor closer spot? would that make sense? I kinda don't really like RL Grime as sunday sunset EDM anyway so I need to think about who else would make sense for 2020 there in general. maybe Flume just goes 3rd and plays Sunset on Sunday if he drops another pop album
The National are like 5th on their day at Bonnaroo, a fest that isn't as deep. They don't seem to care too much where they get billed. And people made these arguments about Solange and Janelle being "too similar" this year; Coachella books the best lineup they can, full stop. I'm not saying they're going to book both Disclosure and Flume as subs, just that if they thought it was a good idea, they wouldn't let the fact that both are electronic acts stop them.
eh I get what you're saying regarding best lineup possible, but Solange and Janelle aren't actually that similar musically in my mind - I disagree with anyone who would have argued that they're too similar, especially with respect to their live performances. Disclosure/Flume aren't really especially similar either, but generally two not-band electronic acts subheadlining hasn't happened in the last decade as far as I know, and I think it counts extra for Flume because if he were to play his typical touring set it's not a very dynamic main stage tier live show.

This would get me there in a heartbeat.
Yeah, I wasn't sure where to place M.I.A. Chem Bros are right on the edge, since their album just came out. But I do think we'll get at least one act like that (and I treat Thom Yorke as a separate thing from the Underworld/Royksopp/Jamiroquai/Aphex Twin/Massive Attack/Chem Bros of the world).

The two things I had issues with myself were A) the flume/disclosure dual subs and B) no female subheadliners. Lots of people here seem to think Flume's a surefire sub for next year, but I think he'd be a no brainer Sunday sunset show. I'm just at a loss for who the female subs might be that I'd enjoy (since this exercise is aiming for acts that are both realistically possible to be booked and ones I'd be psyched for); I used both Adele and Rihanna because it's probably more okay to have no female subs if you have two female headliners for the first time ever.
And yeah, between seeing The National billed 5th on their day at Bonnaroo plus tracking their venues/sales the last couple years, I no longer think they're a sub. They missed that chance. But on the flip side, I think it improves the odds they get booked again.
One of Chem Bros, Basement Jaxx, Faithless, Hot Chip, Groove Armada, Orbital, or Massive Attack would be amazing. Two would be even better.
Flylo is probably destined for the main stage (or Outdoor closer at the very least).
If Hot Chip isn't back next year with the new album on the way, I'll be sending GV some angry fan mail.
Even then (and I know they are probably most likely), I want them less out of all the other ones I mentioned. They are accessible enough. I still find most value here in those rare sets I can't get anywhere else.

Oh totally, I wouldn’t put them in the same category as the others. After getting Underworld, Royksopp, Jamiroquai, and Aphex Twin, I fully expect we’ll get another rare act like that. Personally, I hope it’s either Chemical Bros or Massive Attack.

Well, I've been trying unsuccessfully to see them for years. Flyover country is real and I'm taking this personally.

I'll be more offended if they don't have Joe Goddard in the Yuma while they're there.
Is FlyLo a guaranteed second liner? Or could he sneak on beginning of third line? Either way I think closing outdoor is a great fit for him this go around.

FlyLo 3D is 100% a 2nd line act in 2020.
Y'know, based on his Outside Lands billing I'm actually not so sure. I think he squeezes into the end of the 2nd line, hence why I stuck him there, but I wouldn't be _shocked_ if he opened the third line instead. Either way, definitely not a top-4 act on a day, and thus definitely not on the mainstage.
