Nothing says sticking it to the man like playing a mainstream pop subsidiary connected to a guy who threw 134K at the GOP last year.
Tell it to someone who didn't already recognize the band's potential disinterest in the festival or complain about Anschutz in their first 50 posts (and isn't connected to at least one gender-unspecified person who threw the same at the Dems or someone who might be involved in the decision whether the band would appear, which I say mostly because I've heard nothing about it, not that I would hear).
I'll say again that I tend not to expect old people and/or rock bands, but if there's a hook for one in 2020, (implicit) anti-Trump could be it, whether it's Rage or PJ or somebody else. And at least three members of the band have seen no inconsistency between their arguably-juvenile disaffection-promoting anti-system agitprop and playing lots of big corporate venues on both sides of the AEG/LN aisle as Profits of Rage.

Here is my thing about Rihanna. She says she has a new album next year. So won't she go to tour after that, which means Coachella would be after her tour. Depends on her album timing, if its late in the year and Coachella starts off the cycle, then it makes sense. But if it drops in say April, she'll surely have been touring since then and will obviously play LA shows

So pretty much, exactly what happened with Beyoncé and JT.

Ya I guess so, just feels more fresh for them since they got pushed back or will not happen in JT's case
Its a more special feel when they start off their tour with Coachella or a special show, but thats not always possible
Btw, do you think Lana would ever be big enough to headline without co headlining

The new album would have to be pretty big to jump to headliner at this point.
For comparison, Arctic Monkeys sold out their two Bowl shows pretty quickly and people argue if they’re headliners or not. Granted this was after their album came out but that’s still a big jump in demand.
JT, Rihanna, Chance, VW would be a nice potential start for comin back next yr. I'm hoping the experience is as eye-opening as everyone says. I'd love to make this a consistent vacation out of the shitty Chicago weather every April. It's just hard to get a big enough group together to make the cost worth it. If everything goes smooth I'm gonna ask the homeowner if we can book it for next year on the spot. That seems to be by far the biggest headache when planning the trip.

If you're willing to Drive, Uber, or shuttle into the fest from 30 minutes out, it wasn't too hard to find a house for me this year. It's my first time going that I'm not camping and I found multiple options of housing for 4 for under $750 for the weekend.
That's damn good. I'd like to be a little closer and I'd probably go with a bigger group than 4 but that's good to know. I was trying to look for places that were close to shuttle stops ideally. When did you book your house?

Don't remember the exact date but I think it was early December after we all got the news our hotel rooms had been price gouged. I'm sure it's a lot harder to find anything close for a reasonable price in Feb.
With Cirez D on the lineup but Prydz new Epic/Holo show being premiered later in the year, have to wonder if he was approached this year, said "not ready yet but I'll do Cirez D", and we'll get Prydz next year.

Considering how well received BLACKPINK is on the lineup from almost everybody (Reddit, social media, forums, journalism etc), would Coachella actually considered putting someone like BTS on the lineup? If so, would they sub or are they too big for that and would they have to headline? A year or so ago, I would’ve thought no way that would happen but considering Coachella’s international shift (or more accurately, pop’s international shift), I’m not so sure now.
I mean, look at where J Balvin is on the lineup. I don't think BTS would headline.
Fair point, though for the record J Balvin did 2 shows at The Forum while BTS did 4 shows at Staples. I guess for the Coachella crowd BTS would be a sub at best.

Sure.
But Fleetwood Mac played the Forum three times recently, too. That's all sorta nebulous.

I could see BTS subbing if not headlining. Actually, I could see GV giving them the headline spot to prove how different/progressive Coachella is compared to the other US festivals.

He's said there's no way he'll ever do it at a festival again, because it takes too much time to set up and tear down. Never say never I guess, but I doubt it

I could see Coachella wanting to make a statement like that but looking into it more, I don’t know how well received BTS would be compared to BLACKPINK. I’m not sure if Coachella goers would be as hyped for BTS as they are for BLACKPINK. Looking at their numbers, I wouldn’t be shocked if BLACKPINK overtook BTS in American popularity in the future.
Also, if you thought the Beyhive were bad, BTS’ ARMY is waaaayyy worse.
Having little knowledge about the whole K Pop thing, i kind of view BTS in the same way i viewed One Direction, and I dont think Coachella would ever book one direction. That being said I do expect a subheadlining or headlining set by Harry Styles in the next few years.

Oh, if One Direction reunited AND had a new album, I bet Coachella would book them. It'd just be weird guessing how they would be booked. They have the fan base to headline, but not so sure they would book them to do so. So I'm going to fall back on closing the Outdoor again against a rock headliner or something.
A lot of contenders, depending on who is dropping on album. Chance the Rapper, Frank Ocean, etc. if they drop Rihanna, Madonna are dropping an album, but I'm still iffy on Rihanna ever headlining, since she seems to prefer being a festival goer instead of performing. And of course the, assumed, reserved spot for JT. Would Coachella bother with Kanye again? I'm sure his demands would still be the same on the whole stage thing. If we ever get that new SOAD album..

There’s no way One Direction plays Coachella and doesn’t headline.
One Direction would without a doubt headline if they played. Just saying that I highly doubt Paul is going to book them. But wouldn’t be surprised if he books Harry solo.

Rihanna seems like the next logical choice after JT IMO.
BTS would almost certainly sub but tbh K-pop fans tend to be pretty insular and also, not to be rude, but BTS fans are singularly and borderline creepily devoted to their object of affection so I can't help but feel that it would be an odd choice for them to play this festival. IMO if any K-pop groups were playing next year it'd make more sense for, say, EXO or Red Velvet to perform.
