I'm prob in the minority here too but sign me up for Coldplay. Their production is a spectacle and I loved their show when I saw them a few years ago.
Also, are Flight Facilities cool here too? cause I'd love to see them on the lineup next year. They just posted on instagram that they're "stepping back into mission control soon". Their live album on Spotify with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is awesome and I'd love to see something similar like that in person at the fields next year.

Tyler the Creator has no LA date on his new tour--I think we can assume that it's because of Flog Gnaw again, but what are the chances he's a sub in 2020?

I think a key point many are forgetting is how disappointed he was with the Beyhive crowd last year. I feel like this is definitely for Flog Gnaw. Reddit thinks hes going to headline.
Have we ever had someone move from #3 to sub? I cannot recall, anyone with a better memory have an example?

I say it’s too close but I wouldn’t be shocked if he headlined his next album. Some big venues here
I think it's too soon for Tyler to headline after the 2018 issues with Beyonce campers ruining his set. I'd more than welcome a Tyler headlining set, but I highly doubt it in 2020. He's too big to sub now. It would be really cool to get an Odd Future collective set: Frank, Tyler, Earl, The Internet, etc. Won't happen, but it would be cool.

He's playing theaters. He isn't to big to sub.
Most of his dates are smaller arenas. He’s definitely in that weird sub/headliner category now, big enough to headline smaller fests but not big enough to headline the major fests.
The lack of new Drake songs this summer makes me think he's in play to headline with a new album next year
I hope it's just because he's busy being Canadian Spike Lee the last few months. His first Coachella set was one of the better unintentional comedies I've seen.

I'm also not sure what the point of bringing him back so soon to sub after going 3rd would be, unless they had him close the main as a sub. There's not a big difference between those two set times otherwise.

Drake ain't happening. They've had one repeat headliner in the last 5 years and it was Radiohead. I would be seriously shocked if Drake, perhaps the most widely derided headlining set of all time, were the second in 6 years.

Yeah I know plenty of people didn’t like his Coachella show. He still falls right in the category of “wouldn’t pay to see him at his own show but would love to see him at a festival” for me.

Other thoughts: We can officially count Mitski out, not that I thought there was a chance she'd play anyhow. And is it time to start sticking Jai Paul on some mocks? Seems like the guy might be finally ready to release a legit album.

I'm into any Sunday headliner that attracts a crowd so I can go see something in an empty tent really, so I'm flip flopping to being in favor for it. But I'm pretty sure he would put on a better show a 2nd time around for people who actually like his music. I think he was trying to prove at the time that he was good enough to play a headlining spot with no guest rappers. I didn't see his whole set the weekend I went, but I heard Nicki Minaj just walked out during a song and didn't do much. I watched the live stream though and remember a lot of talking, doing one verse from his songs, and it ending with him looking sad on a waterfall and fireworks.
At what point in the year are most acts actually booked for Coachella? It seems like headliners are well over a year out, but what about your average undercard act?

I would imagine most 2nd-4th line acts are booked between August and October as tour routing and album cycle plans are made for the spring. Headliners probably booked by June; they've essentially been leaked or known by September 3 of the past 4 years (at least, pre-cancellations).
Bottom of the poster probably filled out closer to lineup release day as GV sees who they'd like to support based on album performance over the course of the year.
You'll notice a lot of the 2nd line acts are supporting new albums while acts toward the bottom of the poster (Hop Along, Turnstile, Shame, etc.) are supporting albums a year old.

Honestly, you can't totally judge headliners based on which venues they play at (mentioned this before when someone said Adele plays arenas while Taylor Swift plays stadiums). Tame Impala still plays at relatively smaller venues and they just headlined. There's lots of artists who aren't bigger than Tyler, who book the Forum regularly. Tyler would definitely be the "weak"#3 headliner of the weekend but he's headliner or bust in the same way that Chance The Rapper is. He'd be a better get than both Gambino and Tame was in my honest opinion.

Is everyone overrating Tyler this much because of GovBall? He's essentially playing the same venues Anderson Paak is. I like Tyler The Creator, he has neither the draw, the critical acclaim, nor the performance chops to headline Coachella. He doesn't even headline his own festival.

He was seemingly promoted because Kanye backed out and seems people are forgetting that.

Jai Paul is a guarantee IMO. Coachella loves a come back.
Let's see how Tyler sells for his new dates. Anderson's tour was a bit of a flop, so curious how Tyler does playing similarly sized venues.
Really? The first one sold out main floor here instantly and then he booked an amphitheater a couple months later and filled it up again. I thought it did fine.
