Let's see how Tyler sells for his new dates. Anderson's tour was a bit of a flop, so curious how Tyler does playing similarly sized venues.
Really? The first one sold out main floor here instantly and then he booked an amphitheater a couple months later and filled it up again. I thought it did fine.
Love Anderson but I’m not paying $60 for nosebleeds. Also don’t think Tyler is ready to be a coachella headliner.

His initial tour did well, but his bigger tour had trouble.

I don’t know if there’s any amount I’d pay to see a rap act from the nosebleeds. I didn’t know it wasn’t selling well in other cities though. Tyler could headline if someone dropped just like a Phoenix or Tame Impala(prior to a new album).
Coachella emailed a survey on the 2019 fest, giving everyone who fills it out a shot at two 2020 VIP passes (you choose the weekend.) Gotta complete the survey by 6/23 11:59PM, so maybe no presale until that week?

His MSG show was about 70% full and the crowd was only moderately invested in the music. I heard multiple kids say they were there for Earl Sweatshirt. A bunch of people left halfway through. I had fun but it was a little sad.

My friend got all hyped because he thought Tyler was playing NRG Stadium, where the Texans play, when he was actually playing NRG Arena, an 8k cap venue nearby.

What! I didn't get this survey (yet)
I just got it. Can't recall them doing this before...interesting.
Is everyone overrating Tyler this much because of GovBall? He's essentially playing the same venues Anderson Paak is. I like Tyler The Creator, he has neither the draw, the critical acclaim, nor the performance chops to headline Coachella. He doesn't even headline his own festival.
No, it's because Igor is huge. It's his most "critically acclaimed" album and fans are head over heels about it. Tyler wouldn't have less draw than Gambino or Tame did, around the same ball park. Tyler used to double headline Flognaw and play twice in the same weekend, there's nothing wrong with dropping an ego and letting Kanye headline your festival lol. And can we stop with the venues thing? Tame Impala just played at The Fox Theater Pomona of all places. I don't think Tyler will headline 2020 at all, but I think at this point he is headliner or bust, he's too big to sub. After a year where we got 2 replacement acts and Gambino as the only planned headliner, having Tyler as the "weak" headliner wouldn't be so bad if they hit the other two headliners out of the ball park. Ex: Tyler Friday, Coldplay Saturday, Rihanna Sunday wouldn't look bad at all.

How is he too big to sub when plenty of people that have subbed (and lower) are bigger than him by pretty much every metric? If your argument is that he could sub like Tame Impala did, being one of the smallest headliners in festival history because of someone else dropping out, then sure? Plenty of artists not ready to headline fit that bill.
I just got it. Can't recall them doing this before...interesting.
I’m assuming this is in response to the slower sales this year. I’m also assuming they don’t have all their headliners locked down yet for 2020.
While this sounds cool on paper, I’m afraid the majority are going to just ask for a lame homogenized lineup with shit like The Killers, Travis Scott and Swedish House Mafia.

For sure; it ultimately boils down to A) whether the people who want a homogenized lineup or the people who want more interesting bookings are more engaged in responding to the survey, and B) how GV plans to respond to the data (if at all).

Realistically I think the "who is an up and comer you're interested in" is the artist question most likely to end up reflected on the lineup, given how presumably affordable most up and coming acts would be. It's hard to imagine headliner having too much impact, given the generally limited pool they have to choose from.
Also - looking forward to listening to the undercard acts y'all mention here.

It’s funny, I generally don’t think needs more Indie Rock necessarily, but the way the “what genre do we need more of” question was laid out it was the only answer. In one of the open boxes I put a screed about bringing back the obscure House DJs, but I didn’t want to check the EDM/Techno/House box.
