Agreed with this. The only way we get anything close to 2013 is if that music suddenly becomes at all popular again, which doesn't seem likely in the next few years. We'll continue to get a sprinkling, and the most we can hope is that those sprinkles become more unique than Father John Misty and War On Drugs playing every two years.
I love both those acts and loved their most recent Coachella sets, but point taken lol. Vampire Weekend should help next year.
Same, just don’t need them back again for awhile. If we got VW, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and one other notable second line act (the national? Raconteurs?) I’d be happy.
Is Miley big enough to headline, or would she sub?
With a new hit record I’d say so
But her billing on Glasto and Woodstock this year was pretty surprising to me
Woodstock has too many headliners to judge where shed fit on a 3 hl/3 subs bill, but I think she's easily 4-6 could be a 3 if the 4 isn't big. Glastos booking is also weird and she's definitely more popular in the US.

It's really tough to gauge where Miley would be. The last full show of hers I see on setlist.fm is from 2015, and she played the Wiltern. I'd guess she's a sub if booked.
Based on what, exactly, is it ridiculous? They'll have a new album out by then. Give reasons.
No critical acclaim, no history with Coachella, not female-fronted, never played a prestigious fest anywhere. Like I said, it’s not impossible they eventually do something to merit a spot, but they’re not getting booked in the near future, and they wouldn’t be a third line act if they were.
Those points you made are very much true, I'm not saying that they aren't. I just don't think that it matters that much. Not every act booked at Coachella has checked off all of those boxes that you mentioned. In 2019 (or 2020) I just feel like a nostalgia act riding high on a well received new album (if it comes out) is enough to warrant a booking. Itd be harmless and would draw and it wouldn't be that weird to me, that's all. I expect there to be a lot more pop in the coming years.
Miley is a sub, a really strong sub. I really don't see where all the Vampire Weekend as a headliner stuff is coming from.. they're not really that popular anymore. I think Taylor Swift missed her window unless she has a new album that does amazing, Reputation was many steps backwards. I think we actually do get JT next year finally. Kanye if Yhandi does well. I'm seriously hoping we can somehow get Adele though, I fear that a Rihanna headline would make the crowd as bad as the Beehive in 2018.

I doubt they go back to JT unless they have a couple other huge headliners lined up. This was a soft year up top, they'll want to rebound, and JT was already a stale booking in 2019.
Personally, I don't like it, but he'll move tons and tons of tickets.
I hate it, and that's probably influencing my opinion, but I really don't think he's a bulletproof draw two years after a dud album that he already toured heavily. If they get a Swift or a Rihanna...ok, he's a solid #2. But if they can't pull another massive name next year, I don't think he props up Vampire Weekend and whatever Childish Gambino level headliner is making the rounds next year.

Without JT either coming back after a hiatus or touring a new album with at least one hit, I agree he’s not a huge draw. Classic example of an act that would have a big crowd, but I don’t think would move more tickets than a lot of other headliners. It’s too late or too early for him.

I think this is more true for us than it is for the people who they need to buy the tickets. He's an icon for a whole generation, a generation that's entering peak disposable income years. People will buy for JT, especially if he has another hit song for Trolls 3 or some shit like that. I agree that they need at least one more strong headliner to make it work with him though. Kanye/Rihanna/T-Swift would all fit the bill.
I honestly don't think J Cole is ever playing Coachella. I don't think GV is interested.
Are Cage/Lumineers/VW gonna be headliners by next year?
Cage definitely not, barring a miracle. Lumineers will be headlining stuff but probably not Coachella. VW will be headlining things and probably won't headline Coachella unless the album does really well (which I have a hunch it will; they seem to be very on top of their rollout).

As long as we have Rihanna I’m happy. I said Travis would headline in 2021 but why wait that long I guess. I could see him being a headliner next year as well. With those 2 I don’t care about the 3rd. Make it vampire weekend or Elton or the Stones or whatever

Travis would need a new album. Headlining off of Astroworld would seem like a lazy booking. Sloppy seconds. I hope they can work something out with Kanye.
