The vast majority of the people in my fraternity thought it was garbage and I would say most of them to have very different taste than Inforoo/critics. I could see him playing just because of the name recognition but this album was a flop
I didn’t say it wasn’t getting any negative reviews, but TND is probably the least reputable source of reviews ever and that’s coming from a fan. I don’t like any chance album really, but gauging it from people who already liked him, and the majority of reviews, it’s not really a flop with either. Fantano didn’t give either of the last 2 Eminem records a zero, and they’re are unequivocally worse than this chance album. He has the sloppiest review system ever, he’s just there for entertainment.
Metacritic's a better place to go, where The Big Day got positive but much-worse reviews than his previous albums (71 vs 89 for Coloring Book and 86 for Acid Rap). But the disparity in user scores is pretty huge -- 5.0 for TBD vs 8.3 and 8.8: www.metacritic.com/person/chance-the-rapper
Rolling Stone is a joke and P4k is from Chicago so they may be more sympathetic but I've mostly seen 3/5's and 6-7 out of 10's. It's just not being considered wildy bad everywhere as we'd like to think. I'd love to see the lineup without him on it though so whatever.

Album is legit a 2/10 at BEST
I like a few tracks, and no huge standouts and there are 22 tracks total including 3-4 skits I believe.
I liked basically all of acid rap and most of coloring book. Few songs I like on 10 day as well.
Given it 2 full listens and checked a few tracks 3-4 times that I enjoyed a bit more. Can't listen to it anymore
With all that said, he is easily still a headliner off his last 2 projects alone. If he makes 80% of his set anything before the album (including a couple features), then that is fine with me

I posted to Reddit and people are calling me crazy for thinking they won’t sub. Yes they headlined Hangout and have high placement at other fests, but do we really think the festival who had Janelle, Khalid, and Solange sub last year will put them next? If I’m the crazy one call me out, but I just don’t see it.

Even with the gap, I’m guessing they’ll be one of the bands we’ll all expect and end up not on the poster come January.

Bottle Rock.
This was my first thought too, but they have dates on the other side of the country during Bottlerock.

I have a feeling this is going to be the case, but I could also see them as a #3 people think is a sub despite their other lineup placements. A la The 1975 this year. I don't see the arguments FOR booking them, but can imagine a world where GV thinks they are a good idea.
How the hell are Lumineers are so popular? I still only know them from that "Ho-Hey" song years ago. I feel really out of touch with them.
I feel like the industry is typing to prop them up to fill the void left by recent Mumford singles bombing hard. Although I'm still not entirely convinced the Lumineers and Mumford are different bands...

They just name songs after womens names and repeat it over and over for the lyrics. Their last album had Cleopatra, Ophelia, and Angela. Their new album will have Donna, Gloria, and April. People eat that shit up apparently.
Didn't this happen last year with Mumford where they had a huge gap in their March-May schedule then didn't end up playing?
With those venues, they'd definitely be a sub. Just don't see GV putting a sub out there that is going to be that toured out and bland by the time Coachella comes around. My gut is they aren't announcing west coast dates because of the festivals they're playing in the fall including OSL moreso than Coachella, but could be wrong.
Yeah, eff the Lumineers for even being that high up on the poster. The only way its a lock is if theyre at Chase Center in SF on like April 8. Other than that, I wouldnt take it seriously at all. And yeah, other dates should pop up after OSL. But if they dont, you can start to worry.
Take it how you want, but apparently Billie Eilish is headlining Lolla South America next year. Considering she is going to do arenas in 2020, would GV drink the kool aid and elevate an 18 year old with one album to a headline slot? Its the only place she could end up at this point. Chance could sub under her hahahaha

Nice, another opportunity for me to comment on how every headliner in Coachella history had three albums before headlining aside from one, which was a reunion act. Also, when was the last time the SA Lollas & Coachella shared a headliner? Has it ever happened? (I don't feel like going back beyond 2016). Anyhow, Billie ain't headlining.

Jack White in 2015. But theres been ones that played the year before that have ended up at Coachella the next year. Muse and Arcade Fire in 2013. Calvin Harris in 2015. But thats the thing, we dont know if they go with the hot hand right now and take Billie. Theyve been smart to not bother with Cardi B at least and lucked out with her performance last year. She prob wants headline or nothing now just for 45 of whatever. just keep it in the back of your mind.

I mean, White had way more than 3 albums, they just weren’t all solo. But they were more than half his set. And those examples you gave weren’t shared headliners in the same year, which was what I was talking about. Having Billie headline next year would be a wildly unprecedented move.

When you have an artist that could sell out 4 nights at Staples Center without blinking if it was announced tomorrow, what would you do. Also going to be the defacto front runner at the Grammys.

Billie Eilish is headlining Sunday in Corona Capital this november, Mexico's biggest festival, the saturday headliner? The Strokes. Her draw is truly massive. www.coronacapital.com.mx/

Using number of albums as a measure of career progress is becoming obsolete.

They moved her to main stage at Reading Festival in the UK, cause she was initially on their second stage. Theyre anticipating a hige turnout.
She already had a prime slot after her album release. She's not coming back until she drops another.
The Black Keys is the case study for this. Prime slot and billing in 2011 which was marred by technical issues. Given a headlining slot the very next year. Theres rumblings of a new EP, which would probably be enough. But again, keep it in the back of your head. If that line up leak comes out and her name is on it, i guess we cant act shocked.
And a Chance The Rapper tour update. Not even half sold out for his L.A. show ticket wise. Similiar in most cities too. As expected he sold out his first chicago date and added another. Still headlining with those kinds of sales?
I do think either Billie or Cardi will end this trend, but it won't be next year.

I don't disagree, and European festivals haven't cared as much about this (Arctic Monkeys headlined on their 2nd album). But while I agree the "min 3 albums" pattern is likely to be broken at some point in the near future, it hasn't been yet.
That said, I think the bigger things holding Billie back from headlining next year are the fact that she just played and the reality that Coachella has never shared a headliner with a Lolla SA in the same year. Maybe that's because Lolla wants exclusivity, maybe that's because Coachella doesn't want to double-dip, maybe it's purely coincidence. But there have been a number of Lolla SA headliners who could've headlined Coachella as well and it hasn't happened yet, I gotta think there's a reason why.
