I'm gonna need to see how many of each ticket tier were sold, because this seems like a classic bait and switch move. A few friend almost balked at the new price points, but because they already made travel plans (flights, airbnb, etc.) they just went with it. Kinda shady.

Well, I went with VIPs since the difference between GA and VIP was down to $100 and they confirmed that VIP gets an up front main stage viewing area. That's worth $100 to me, but I'm sure it'll be a cluster fuck.

Did anyone get the early bird price? Was debating with a friend whether paying $150 after fees for Tier 1 was worth it. I did it reluctantly, but now it sounds like I was lucky to even get the Tier 1 price. I guess the payment plan option existing makes a lot more sense now.
I'm feeling a bit down on it now, but I'll probably get really excited again for this thing again in the coming months.

This feels like a bait and switch. What the fuck does early bird mean if they aren't given out for being early? The queue straight up says that when you join the lobby you are assigned a random spot. They aren't given to people that are early. They seem to have just randomly given people a handful of discounted tickets for no reason other than advertising the fest and baiting people into snagging tickets because they gave the image of selling fast. "Oh shit $99 tickets sold out, I should just grab the tier 2 since they seem to be selling so well!"
I'm not accusing GV of just not selling $99 tickets, but the amount them seem to have sold is suspect.
-Post lineup at $99 to test reaction -See reaction is overwhelmingly positive -Add tier based pricing and limit $99 sales

Until someone says they got a $99 GA ticket, I WILL speculate that they saw the hype and said "oh shit, we don't have to offer any $99 tickets. This thing will sell without them".
FWIW, they had the tiers and their prices up in the website this morning (not the Tier 3 one, though).
It's selling well and so they're making a pure margin grab. So shady. When I went through the queue around 10:20 PT they didn't have the $170 / $270 prices listed - they must have had that on hold and decided to do it around 10:25 due to demand.

Brilliant tactic to sell out a fest. If they did this last year with FYF, maybe it wouldn't have been cancelled.

Finally found some capacity info in a Billboard article about Tropicalia. Also it looks like Tropicalia sold out in the days leading up to the fest. The lineup was pretty bad and people were pretty vocal about it. Cardi dropped out and SZA took her spot.
"All events, which range in capacity from 10,000 to 15,000, sold out in the first year with Smokin Grooves and Summertime in the LBC selling out one day after going on sale. Tickets for Tropicalia are still available, but Billings thinks that come Saturday, Tropicalia will sell out too."

Someone on reddit said that they forgot about the sale entirely until 9:55 and they still got an earlybird ticket. I was in queue for over 30 minutes before on sale time. Wtf is this nonsense.

Well hopefully the money we were all just price gouged was just a donation to prove to Goldenvoice there's still people out there who want to see bands.
