Also I hope it goes without saying that I think it's bad that Trump is trying to use Rocky/Yeezy as props to score easy points with a community he regularly attacks. I posted it because I hope some MAGA dip shit decides to check out ASAP Rocky because of this and then pees their pants about it.
What allows you to feel that sense of optimism for the people of this country? I ask becauee I need to find that again. Between the failed education system, the systemic racism and then rise of the hard liners, I see very little reason to believe we won't simply play dumb and wait for captain hindsight to show up eventually.
I know people who voted for him. We all do. I think the idea of accepting him as a dictator would simply be a bridge too far. It's not optimism, I just think that there's no way to spin it. I hope that I never have to test that theory.
I disagree and you definitely think more highly of people than I do. I think that people will be upset/outraged and then do absolutely nothing about it (well they might protest but I think that is the extent). I think we have at least 4 more years before we have to worry about it unfortunately (he might try to add additional term limits like he has talked about as well).

Kanye and Kim use their influence to help ASAP Rocky but no mention of children in cages in likely worse conditions than the millionaire rapper is held in

Right. He can't add additional terms. Congress can't add additional terms. The Constitution would have to be amended and there's just no support for it.

Let's not pretend that these people respect the Constitution and would actually hold themselves to laws. They already don't. They'll do anything to keep power. Do anything to make more money.
To answer the original question - I have no hope. I believe Trump is going to win again. I feel civil war is inevitable at this point, and the outright end of civilization as we know it may not be inconceivable. We're truly barreling towards dark times.
I tend to try and ignore political discussion and the news, to keep some shred of mental health. I know it's a state of privilege. Either I go balls to the wall involved with activism or near completely check out.
I don't enjoy spending time with certain family members because they are conservative Christians who parrot Fox News and the right wing sphere. I fear my father is becoming one of them.

He "can't" do half the fucking things that he IS doing right now. He has zero fucks about the Constitution, anyone without money (hence him "helping" A$AP) or that is poor, thinks he is the only one with access to recording devices and the internet and gaslights the nation when his behavior or incidents are called out. He says that other people are vulgar! He thinks other people are vulgar, I mean come fucking on. There is no real support for dismembering AHC, but he is doing that and judges are allowing it to happen, along with separating and locking up children. He threw a temper tantrum because Omar got welcomed home lovingly by her constituents, even though he "disavowed" the send her back chants. This mother fucker will do whatever it takes to grab power, keep power including paying off, bribing or whatever. He is an at any means necessary person. It is fucking disgusting and honestly one of the scariest things that I have ever had to witness.
The stupid fascist president isn't going to be able to do a coup because the intelligence apparatus and the military brass all hate him, and because he's a coward
If he barricades himself in the white house, the secret service will drag his ass out
They didn't even tell him when he was walking around with TP trailing from his shoe
We will just have to disagree on whether the American people would allow him to successfully appoint himself as dictator.
Personally, I'm telling you that someone would take him out in that scenario. I guarantee it.
Find optimism in this:
He's incredibly unpopular. He's never had a positive approval rating. He received millions of fewer votes than HRC. Democrats had huge electoral success in the midterms.
Yes, he's awful. He's doing terrible things. He's saying disgusting things. Republicans are enabling him. Radical change is needed. But giving up hope is exactly what they are counting on. They want you to give up.
We need to kill capitalism before capitalism kills us all.
I mean, this is the answer. Probably the only answer if we are looking at the next 20 years or so. We can try to overcome the fascists together and take on climate change.... or we will watch everything fall apart.
I'm usually not one to argue that socialism is the only way because I think a more representative capitalist system could overcome climate change and slowly improve life for more folks.... in theory. It wouldn't be perfect but it would be functional enough to take on certain challenges. But our past isn't past in a million different ways. For the world we've inherited there's no other option but to take down the oligarchy.
That's pretty much it. No way around it. Socialism or barbarism.

I think this is going to end with heads on sticks. My fiance used to tell me that it was too illogical a path to lead to that, but spilled blood will likely be the only way the people secure the government on their behalf, and even then I'm not sure of its longevity. America isn't like Turkey, where the military would gladly intervene once they sniff the office doesnt hold well with them. The US military, I feel in my limited perspective, would sooner follow an order of martial law than to establish and execute a proper coup.

You guys are crazy, we at least have a shot to win the White House. The Senate is where we are truly fucked. We're relying on people like Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell, Joni Ernst, or Thom Tillis losing. Like 3 of those 4 have to lose, AND we have to keep Doug Jones in Alabama (and worse, pray to flying spaghetti monster or whomever else that it's not Roy Moore). I guess Arizona is a possibility and Colorado is a good shot, but those other 5 I mentioned aren't great odds.
I'm usually pretty positive, and I think we have a good shot at beating Trump, but until the Senate returns it won't matter much.

Lol I don't think I knew about this. Article is pretty shameful, "Joe being Joe", they bring up that it's clearly weird and then just kind of stop going that route and brings up how they were buds or whatever.

Just to get this out of the way, I'm not really morally opposed to heads on sticks. Anyone that knows me has likely heard me say the world would be better off with certain people dead( It would be a long list). I just think that history shows us violent revolutions are far too unpredictable and the fight against counterrevolution/reactionaries almost always becomes the main goal. If it doesn't turn the winners into authoritarians, it rots their cores values and ideas, etc. And when we talk about America we're talking about a situation and terrain where the left has almost no chance of winning a total victory. That's not to say if it comes to it we should just lay down and take whatever comes our way but violence has an extremely low chance of leading to a successful outcome on a national level.
So when we look at our current world and the fact that we could be on the cusp of political violence, the best strategy is pretty easy. Do everything in our power to reestablish federal power and kept the military from ever being fully under the command of the right. It's not about using them to crush our enemies (Not a desirably outcome. The evangelicals alone would turn that into a propaganda nightmare). It's about not letting the militias and shit feel emboldened to take action. Some likely will and they might need to be made examples of but defensive action is best. More cynically, if you can use the tools and language of imperialism to slowly dismantle the system you should.
That's it. It's that simple and it's that impossible. The liberals/left has to win with ideas in a country full of brainwashed dumbasses.

I'd say it's a toss-up at the moment. Depending on who gets the nomination. But the DNC is really shitting the bed and showing how little they've learned from 2016.
I don't think there's any way of taking back the Senate without expanding the base and there doesn't seem to be anyone in the DNC that has a plan to do that besides trying to win over white suburbanites. Which, sure, that worked in the midterms* but it's not viable in the long-term. There's no loyalty there.
*Although they never seem to remember the whole party was out voting and they were expecting action against Trump. Not sure what extra motivation they'll have to get the left to come out for a bunch of moderates after they've spent the last year trying to marginalize them.
Am I being an absolute virtue-signaling overly sensitive leftist asshole for deciding to not book an airbnb that is otherwise literally perfect (and cheap) because of this?
