If there's one thing to be happy with about Trump, and clearly there is a ton not to, it's that he has no personal interest in war with Iran the way most politicians have such a hard-on for (including AOC now, apparently, who says Iran is trying to provoke a war with us, which is laughable). Similar thing with Venezuela.
Another reason Bernie and Tulsi are the best on the Dem side (there may be others but they're the ones who I know oppose the forever wars).
I'm pretty sure AOC was referring to the trump admin trying to goad war with Iran. That's how I interpreted it. Maybe worded weird but she was on the move and it was quick.

Plus...I mean just check what she says herself
Ok, yeah. I misinterpreted what she meant by "they" in the clip, for sure.

I've seen others online do the same but people replying are clarifying what she meant. The subtitles here help since she's being asked about "the handling of Iran" and not just "Iran" and the general situation
^^Also doesn't help that Trump actually couldn't care less, since it's now reported that he changed his mind about attacking. That there were already planes in the air, and thus we need to really worry because I don't even know if it's the Pentagon pulling these strings. It really could be Bolton, etc. And that's even scarier than Trump, because he runs on polls and popularity in his mind, but let's his minions do whatever the hell they want which is relatively consistent with "most" of his thoughts. He's literally mental play-doh; a brat kid that hates Obama and throws himself against the wall, but doesn't realize they are doing it ever, cries about it and then does it again. They turn into a Cartman, and they get away with shit for most of their lives until they are burned for their own shit-making. We haven't even gotten to that point and I think most of us expected at some point Trump would just snap. Instead he's slow snapping live on tape, and going into full grifter mode.

It's so infurating to watch all these politicians and media types make the Iran situation about procedure. Just say no fucking war.
Tim Kaine's was the worst I've seen so far. He made it all about how it's unfair to the troops if Congress doesn't authorize it. Otherwise, I guess it's cool. Obviously we can all forget what's fair to the people in Iran.

Someone commented on a friend's post about Iranian art at temples with "but I hate how much they hate us", and while he handled it with grace, I rolled my eyes so far back that I realized how de-humanized they have made these people. The Iraq-Afghanistan-Eqypt-Syrian-etc. super conflict of the last 18 years that somehow isn't a World War....... has done it's goal of de-humanizing groups to allow more destruction for money; and resource stealing for profit.
And that's what real socialists believe. And I'm not sure how we can say that they are wrong.
I implore everyone to watch Rick Steves special on Iran. They gave him permission to film and talk to people that most Americans don't have access to, and it really shows in beautiful and heartbreaking fashion just how much most Iranians aren't that much different than we are, and they like America. Plus Rick is the most likable guy I can think of.

They arn't. If you haven't excepted that our world wide miltary presence is about extracting resources and that we've partially built modern America* off the backs of the third world you need to come to terms with it.
*Not to forget what was previously built off the backs of slaves.
This is also why they are going to fuck us up by going to Iran in warfare. We will look like utter assholes obviously. They have a complex culture, and it will be... White imperialist histories vs. the East and that's not good. Not good at all.

not to mention the egregious amount of money made by defense contractors. My dad was a lead engineer on the MRAP project for Navistar (and I worked for him for a bit...crazy the only job I could get in 2008 after college was building war machines) and he would constantly have moral dilemmas with himself about what he did for a living. He would always say he did it because he was building trucks that kept our soldiers alive, but I know he is much, much happier building racecars now.

I had a really smart friend who smoked a shit ton of weed, who worked for Lockheed because he was just that good of a program writer. He ethically broke after like 5 years, and just said I can't just take this money and smoke it away... I don't know what he's up to but that was the last thing I knew about him *this is all during college. important note.

I'm sure that would be a hard industry to work in. Glad he's happier elsewhere.

This reminds me of something that maybe we haven't put into words much in here. Besides the moral questions of U.S. empire, another reason it's imperative to support candidates that are willing to take on the military industrial complex is that without chipping away at the militant mindset America is built on there's no real way to take on global warming. You could argue the same for building a better social democracy. We shouldn't expect Warren or Bernie to pull some magic trick and do this all themselves but it's got to start somewhere. We're fucked if we can't get military spending under control. For one, the U.S. military emits more carbon than a lot of individual countries. When you look at our foreign policy one obvious thing that sticks out is our military helps props up dictators. Putting moral concerns aside again, dictators don't tend to be interested in environmental regulations within their borders. That goes for resource extraction, deforestation, etc. Most importantly our military presence in the Middle East is largely about securing and controlling oil flow.
All of this is tied together. The political and military worldviews of so many leaders are consumed with resource extraction that there's no room to see how self-destructive this all is. That they are literally killing our planet in pursuit of power and wealth. The pentagon is polluting the world to help the elites further fucking pollute the world. That has got to change. Conversations on how we transition must become a priority or we are doomed.
So again, business as usual isn't going to do it. Half-measures aren't going to do it. Any Dems acting as if the main concern for a new war is procedural aren't going to do it. These people are standing in the way of any type of future for the human race. That's just the truth of it.
Nobody running has a magic solution. We all get that. But if a candidate doesn't acknowledge that militarily spending needs to be reduced and these bullshit wars need to end they shouldn't even be considered. Not if you take global warming seriously or want your children to have a better shot at a decent future.
Like I said, even though this is straight hilarious too... but Booker is leaps above Biden. Even with his problems, he always is on his populist tip. He finds a way to edge himself in, and sometimes I think it's genuine.
This is the section where we prove everyone wrong, and tell them why we don't just hate every other non-Bernie/Warren candidate. Where we show them that we just hate the corporate leaning forces that are Biden, and their ilk.
I believe Kamala Harris would be a better president, because of her history of litigating tasks -- part of a prosecutor and Senators role. The Beto is compassionate. the Butte, needs more questions. Gillibrand actually said Whiskey is her night cap, like a fucking human being. Who worth a lick am I missing?
Obviously her first choice numbers are *almost* good enough for CA (I think you need 15% to get delegates?), but horseshoes and handgrenades and all that.
It'll be interesting to see what she does post-CA primary.

She'd be a fantastic VP choice for either Warren or Sanders.
It is weird, corporatism, systemic racism that doesn't have Harris there. And if you doubt that, than having the information that it's a *3 point difference doesn't phase you, and I can't help you.
She will be more interesting during debates than the rest of the people in the whole lineup, which I think I'm leaning on. Cali doesn't matter until we are really pushing along / either a real spread in progressives between Warren and Sanders, or a Biden roll through somehow...

Harris hasn't polled as well as I'd assumed a couple months ago. Still, I think her campaign's initial strategy is/was good. Where she was focusing on the South, specially trying to knock out a big win in South Carolina. If she gets that momentum in the South and does good in her home state, she's going to be looking pretty good after Super Tuesday. It depends on how far Biden falls and if she can get Southern voters on board with her. Remember at this point in 2007 Hillary was looking like she'd have the south as a stronghold and Obama started winning people over. If Harris comes out of that opening stretch with a couple key wins it could change the whole dynamic of the race.
I've argued this on Twitter a good bit but California having it's primary moved up really helps position her and she shouldn't be discounted. What to really watch in the South is where the polling numbers go IF Biden drops. As of now I'm assuming that battle will be between Warren and Harris. Although Sanders will be a little more of a threat in southern states with more Hispanic voters, and his numbers with African Americans have improved a little down here too.. Tho likely not enough to pull out any wins based on that alone.

Inslee, although I can't find much in the way of foreign policy statements from him... outside his climate change ideas.
I said months ago that I thought Harris might be the best we could hope for out of a traditional establishment win. The field has changed a lot since then but I'd still rank her close to the top for the same reasons. I think she'd stick to her guns and truly fight for the policies she ran on. As far as I know she's still in for M4A, which she might waver on it once in office but it seems she's at least be going in with a better negotiation strategy than most of these jokers.
Bernie is unveiling a bill today to cancel all student loan debt. As I have over $100k in student loan debt and my wife has more than double that, we shift our allegiances from Liz to Bernie as of this morning. The major thing that could get us to switch back is piggy pablo's weird obsession with posting everything negative about Liz.
