Lana just announced a show at Jones Beach for September 21. It is the only east coast show on this leg and this tour looks like it is set up so she comes back in the spring/summer. I definitely would put her in the possibility column for sure.

Founders did mention she backed out this year, maybe/probably to finish her album? Lumineers dates are looking interesting, too (I had no idea they're still an arena act)

I'm a VW fan but I feel like they're out of the headliner conversation? They haven't topped any of this years fests (correct me if I'm wrong) and are playing mostly amphitheaters this tour. I can see them getting the 75 minute sub slot

True, but all were on the come up when GB promoted them. I personally just don't think VW has held on to their status as a closer since GB booked em in 2014

I mean, if Phoenix and Jack White can occupy headlining slots, I'd argue that VW definitely can.
That said, I could also easily see them in a pre-headliner slot on the GovBall stage, depending on who the actual headliner is.

Oh no I can definitely see VW as a headliner, and they'd almost certainly pull a bigger crowd than Phoenix and Jack, I just think they're better suited to sub (a VW > Tame night would be *chef's kiss* if Founders did in fact land Tame for 2020.) At the same time GB called on The Strokes for the umpteenth time to close this years fest, Ye dropout and all so, yeah, I guess anyone's on the table

Soooo....I know a lot of folks are pegging Lana Del Rey as a possible headliner for next year, but I don't know - I'm listening to NFR! now, and it's pretty great, but it's also mellow as all hell. Something this low-key would be such a strange way to end a festival day. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it'd certainly strike me as potentially the least-energetic headlining set in GovBall's history.
EDITED TO ADD: Just to be clear, this isn't a comment on whether I think the album is good or not, but just that it's not of a feel that matches a lot of music - usually either energetic rock, hip-hop, or EDM - that has typically occupied the headlining slots at GovBall.

At the very least it would be better than her low volume set in 2015. I was in front of the sound booth and I could clearly hear The Black Keys on the other side of the festival

Not that I figured any of them were likely, but Weezer, Green Day, and Fall Out Boy are all definitely off the table now thanks to the August Citi Field stop on their Hella Mega tour.

Continuing the Lana, Tame, VW thing from the other thread
Lana would've easily filled the sub spot if she didn't drop out of 2019. She's a 2020 headliner post-NFR, imo. Definitely a departure from the rap and rock acts GB has booked to close, but the switch up could be nice. She has enough in her discography to change the pace at a few spots in her set, I'd like to see what she can do with 90 minutes. Only real drawback to me are her fans were a nightmare in 2015 and it could be that x1000 with her closing the main. Also to be kinda fair to her getting drowned out back then, the Honda stage was complete shit
Regarding Tame and VW, I see VW taking a sub spot. They didn't play many arenas outside the major cities for Part 1 of their tour (though I concede they did basically sell out a 360° MSG,) will be playing more amphitheaters next summer a year removed from FOTB, and didn't headline any US fests this year. On Tame, having played Primavera 2019, there's one hurdle Founders has already cleared on top of them mentioning chances are good for 2020. Maybe I'm just being super optimistic, I wanna believe odds of seeing both on the 2020 poster are solid

Feel like Tame Impala/LDR/VW is just catering a bit TOO much to the indie/alt crowd, definitely needs to be a Billie Eilish in there somewhere. Also, has The National ever played Gov Ball? They probably don't fit the demo at all at this point but would be a solid sub.

The National has played NY so many times over the past 2-3 years that I don't see any benefit to Gov Ball booking them. They had to give away tickets to their 2 day festival last year.
