I think Bonnie Raitt is overdue for a big set. Lizzo would be a ton of fun. Vampire Weekend would be a huge hit at the Fort.
Think they will try to bring Noname back next year?
You know, “Harmony Hall” came up on the satellite radio during my drive back to NYC yesterday, and I had that exact same thought about Vampire Weekend.
Kyle Craft. Going to try and post that daily until he gets announced with his own set.
Saw Lizzo's Tiny Desk yesterday (which everyone should watch,) and was saddened that she hasn't already been booked for Newport. Kind of feels like she is already too popular and commanding too high of a price tag for Newport to get her unless another artist recruits her. Anyone that is on board should actively try to get her to come.
Have been thinking about who else could pull off curating a closing set like Jon Batiste and Brandi Carlise have done. It would need to be someone that has a lot of connections with other artists, appreciates what Newport is about and has a pure love and appreciation of music. The two folks that come to mind are Rhiannon Giddens and Chris Thile.
Also the two artists that I was most dissapointed did not come this year are Andrew Bird and Josh Ritter.

Thread up for an hour and the Neil Young seal has been broken, we are truly in full 2020 speculation mode! Let's get it!

Big ol' list of hopes:
• Kings of Convenience (been hoping for them since they started playing again a few years ago) • Alexi Murdoch (hoping he starts putting music out again in 2020…) • Gillian Welch (it’s been too long since a proper Gillian set) • Robin Pecknold or Fleet Foxes in some form • Justin Vernon or Bon Iver in some form • Anaïs Mitchell (she was such a delight to hear in many different sets over the weekend — I’d love for her to have her own set) • Tallest Man on Earth • Mandolin Orange • The Brother Brothers • Greg Brown • Joanna Newsom • Bill Frisell • John Craigie • Birds of Chicago • Joe Pug • Sam Amidon • Bahamas • Josh Ritter • Bedouine • Johnny Flynn • Bill Callahan • The Barr Brothers • Crooked Still • Live From Here (doing a similar thing to what they did for this show where they recorded it but didn't broadcast live since it's off season and didn't align timewise)

The surprise appearance of Dolly Parton showed that it's a good time for Newport, and festival/concert promoters in general, to book the old masters before they retire or pass.
Considering that Al Green toured for the first time in seven years this spring, he'd be a great booking for Newport next year, if he's inclined to perform again next year.
It seems like almost all of the soul and country greats from the 50's - 70's have passed in recent and not-so-recent years. Those few who remain should be priorities while they're still with us.
I'm gonna try to keep a mega list of all the artists mentioned here. At least to start. I'm sure at some point in the next 12 months I'll slip up.
But here are a bunch I of others I'm expecting and/or hoping for:
-Alice Phoebe Lou -Caamp -The Dead Tongues -Durand Jones & The Indications -Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians -Greensky Bluegrass -Hand Habits -Hiss Golden Messenger -Jackie Cohen -Jeff Mangum (will keep hoping for this until forever) -Jonathan Wilson -Julia Jacklin -Julie Byrne -Kishi Bashi -Lady Lamb (bring her back god dammit!) -Leif Vollebekk -The Lemon Twigs -The Marcus King Band -Sam Cohen -(Sandy) Alex G -Shannon Lay -Sylvan Esso -Tedeschi Trucks Band (a way better jam closer than Phil...) -Tinariwen -William Tyler
Hoping we avoid a Lumineers return, but could definitely see it happening
Fuuuuuuck, gfs close friends gets married that weekend. We assumed we were safe because we expected it to be the last full weekend in July. Got to see how I can weasel out of that!
Ian Noe Whiskey Myers Tyler Childers Peter & Paul Jamey Johnson Rodney Crowell Marty Stuart James McMurtry American Aquarium Mike and the Moonpies Steve Earle Lucinda Williams Emmylou Harris Gillian & Dave Whitey Morgan & The 78’s Tom Waits Don Flemons Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band

What about giving Deer Tick their Newport sendoff by having them curate the final set?
Then we can hype up possible Stevie Nicks and Dave Grohl appearances all year
Brittany Howard (solo) Anais Mitchell and Friends performing Hadestown Calexico and Iron & Wine (if still touring at all together...) Japanese Breakfast When We Are Inhuman (Bonnie Prince Billy, Bryce Dessner, Eight Blackbird) Kishi Bashi First Ladies of Bluegrass (for a proper set) Whitney (good time for them to return after new album) Snail Mail Steve Gunn Orville Peck Faye Webster Angie McMahon (for a non-museum stage set) Penny and Sparrow

Lizzo will be too big for anything Newport would be willing to book her for by next year. Anyone who booked her 6 months to a year ago won the lottery. (In my city, she was bumped from a medium sized venue to an arena, and she then went on to sell the arena out too.)
