Hmmmm, interesting. She was great, obviously, and it's been a huge year for her, but coming back so soon seems weird. What does that mean for her scheduling? A main stage slot? Close out the Quad? Either way, I'll probably be at the set.
We've seen a newcomer grab the festival by the collar and get a return invite before. This is one I was hoping for. Imagine a Yola guest spot with the Black Pumas . So, how many more Grammy nominees for best new artist come on board?
For the young'uns, as old Hubert Humphrey used to say, "I am pleased as punch."

Yep, seems like they try to do this when they have an artist who "gets" Newport and really blows up. List below doesn't include Museum Stage artists who played a main stage the following year; it only includes artist who have had back to back announced spots on main stages.
2014 - Shakey 2015 - Hozier 2016 - Nathaniel Rateliff 2017 & 2018 - Don't think it happened 2019 - Lukas Nelson 2020 - Yola
That's some good company to be in. I'm sure I missed some.

Definitely feeling like this year will NOT be our triumphant return from the west coast. In addition to having the “stuck in the waiting room” experience and winding up #1300 in the lyte line, our Newport home base of Melville ponds seems to be booked (and have wildly increased their price the last two years as well.) I’m sure I booked this in January/February the last few years, I guess word is officially out.
I’m thinking about rolling the dice on having a family weekend in Newport as the backup plan and hoping tickets come thru, but does anyone have a recommendation for lodging that’s affordble for a family of 3 and not an hour away?
Yola is fine, but this festival's continued insistence on booking repeat/retread acts is exhausting.
I like it actually. You hear about someone blowing everyone's minds but you get a chance to catch them next year and see what all the fuss is about. To say nothing of the fact that without deep pockets I assume they're drawing from a smaller talent pool than their bigger cousins.
Congrats to Melanie for being the only one to pick Yola and taking an early lead in Bingo with three of the four artists picked. She already has three rows with two boxes covered in them.

we stayed over in Narragansett last year, and while the house we wanted to book from last year got scooped up super fast we still managed to find something else. last i checked there were still some places left over there for not crazy pricey. We had previously been staying at the motel 6 so having a full house, even though it was little further away was nice when we factored in not having to eat out for breakfast and dinner. Once out of fort traffic from the lot it was like a 35-40 minute drive.

Thanks. I was surprised more didn't go for Yola. She definitely seemed like the Maggie Rogers of the previous year with how many sets she collaborated on. Not that I minded, I love her! Now hopefully the rest of my card plays out. 3 out of 4 is definitely an all time best.

Yeah but Maggie wasn't actually on the lineup in 2018.
Newport really doesn't usually have artists on the main lineup play back-to-back years. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats did but they blew up and put out their album after their first appearance, and their third time was unannounced. There have been a couple museum stage ones like Margo Price and Courtney Marie Andrews.
I'm still down for Yola coming back because I missed her set, but it kind of feels like they just wanted to give her a better slot on the schedule

I'm not sure I agree with that, look at both Shakey Graves and Hozier in both 2014 and 2015. There are others. I think when an artist "gets it" they ask and are welcomed back with open arms, especially with all the current success.
Now looking forward to next Tuesday's announcement!

Are the Raconteurs ruled out? Don't know their tour dates or any other news. But between the talk of an artist "getting it" and seeing that the ACL recording for Racs is being paired with Black Pumas I started to wonder if they were possible to play. Maybe not this year but Jack seemed to enjoy his Newport time

I don’t think they’ve announced anything in 2020 yet so it’s more just a question of if they’re active or not. They would’ve been great last year

I did forget about them but both put out their first major albums after the 2014 fest

Yeah, that makes sense. And Jack seems to like to switch things up pretty often. Maybe he takes a break and just produces for a bit. Maybe he can pull together Dead Weather peeps over the next few years.
It's a long shot but I'd love it if Raconteurs got booked for this year. Not expecting it.

Yes please more Dead Weather. I think as a whole, they're my favorite Jack White project, though admittedly I am a huge sucker for anything Alison Mosshart.

Much appreciated. I’ve looked at Narragansett before but I’m always worried about how long it takes to get in. Do you take the ferry or drive over the bridge everyday when you do that?

There is no ferry directly from Newport to Narragansett. You'd have to drive to Jamestown and take the ferry from there to Newport.
I've never done that before, so can't comment on it.

Can't wait to be back at the Fort in only a few months, especially with announcements rolling in!
For anyone in the southern NH/MA area, the high school for which I serve at the Unified Arts Department Chair and Director of Choir/Theater will be hosting a 2019 NFF Musuem Stage favorite as part of our annual guest musician series - Awaaz Do!
The band will be working with over 100 of our choir, band, guitar night club, and HERstory club students throughout the school day in specialty seminars before rocking our auditorium stage later in the evening.
The concert portion is open to the public - if anyone can/does make it up, please come say hello - I'll be pretty easy to pick out!
And exponential thank yous to Chris Funk and JP Harris for curating another awesome year at the Museum last year (not to mention Brian and all of the other staff). Talking to Tanya after the Awaaz set is what ended up setting this opportunity for my students up. Can't wait to see what we have in store this year!
I can see what looks like DCode Festival and End of the Road Fest.
According to both those fests socials, they are announcing lineups tomorrow. Maybe the same happens here.
I think the second line after Eyes is definitely Dead Oceans which is probably the label putting out their new album. Which makes me think the line above is something to do the album title
I see the End of the Road thing and they posted another one this morning that has L I Q D R M on that line

Ahhhh Good Point on Oceans.
Also, FZBDE when google searched seems to be a standard line for eye exams. That might mean nothing. Unless that’s the name of the album...
Also, there was another one a couple days ago that had Forest Hills on it.
