Someone asked Jay on Twitter tonight if Fiona was on the lineup this year...he responded “I’ll Never Tell ”
I’m willing to bet that she was...that sucks!
How frequently is she part of Watkins Family Hour?
Also, I assume some of these artists who dropped off, if things actually get better and this thing happens, could potentially join back in.
I don’t know...although I do find it interesting that the conversation he mentioned on Twitter was with Benmont, at a WFH show at Newport, and they have all played with WFH...
Oh shit. Well I'm just an idiot. I didn't see the 2021. That at least makes me a little more confident. I thought they were just pushing back a month and would re-evaluate as it got closer.
Still possible that Forest Hills overlaps Newport weekend
True, but at least I've got more time to decide and wouldn't miss this NFF (if Newport still goes on in July this year).
So fingers crossed this means they booked but held off on announcing Fiona and Bright Eyes because both opted to reschedule for next year and thought it'd be better to save the announcement for when they can actually play

This would mean me happily making the trip to NFF for the first time ever.
While it isn't clear that we are done with announcements and can declare Bingo over, I thought I would provide an update. Nobody has a bingo still. In fact no one even has 6 in a row. Winning a 7x7 bingo card is really hard. That being said, I think we collectively did a great job. Our top 5 most selected artists were all announced (Deer Tick, Delta Spirit, Nathaniel Rateliff, Sharon Van Etten, and Brittany Howard.) Of the 45 announced artists, 36 were on a Bingo card. As for current winners, Melanie and andyd17 are both tied with 16 correct answers (not including the free square.) I think they should be in line for Jay's job when he is ready to hand it over. We will see what happens in terms of further announcements before we wrap this up.
Bingo cards have been updated and can be viewed here. Please let me know if I have made a mistake.
Edit: I love Jay for fighting to make it happen and hope it does but the more I learn about the virus the more it looks like it'll be a long drawn out campaign with phases.
SWEET: Everything is at risk of being canceled, including our events. But, I have a good direct relationship with the governor [Gina M. Raimondo]. She’s trying everything and we’re trying everything to make sure that doesn’t happen. Along with the economic impact for the state it has, [the two festivals are] mostly something Rhode Island and our families are super proud of. It’s something I know the state is proud of. Rhode Island has these two festivals and they are what make Rhode Island. I think that we all want them to happen. If we can miraculously do it, it will be a sense of normalcy that people really want.

Alexi Murdoch on mine and my free space too
Steve Gunn on mine, but congrats Melanie and andyd17!

There were a couple that I was not generous on (and what a stinking way to be during these times.) I didn't credit Steve Gunn or William Tyler solo nor did I give Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats.
Would be open to using those as tie breakers if needed though.

This is a tough choice of what to do with the tickets. The Revival Membership is $500 which basically makes this years full ticket into a donation (which already is option 1)
'13 Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Boston Calling '14 Mountain Jam, Boston Calling '15 Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes, Boston Calling '16 Mountain Jam, Firefly, Newport Folk Fest '17 Mountain Jam, Newport Folk Fest, Boston Calling '18 Mountain Jam, Newport Folk Fest '19 Newport Folk Fest '22 Newport Folk Fest
Damn. That’s going to be out of my price range, but also make this festival impossible to attend next year as there will be even fewer tickets available. I completely understand, but I was hoping like an extra $100 per ticket. Not double the price.

I think I’ll make a separate post speculating on next years ticket situation, but for now I just want to take a moment to grieve the loss of the fest this year.
This is my favorite place in the whole world. It’s the thing I look forward to most every year. Even more than I used to, since it’s tied to being home with my family since moving to the west coast. During a few dark, hard winters, knowing I was headed back to the ocean and music in the summer is something that has gotten me thru.
When we went for the first time in 2009 my wife and I had been dating for less than a year. When we returned in 2014, we had been married less than a year. It became something we shared, with a revolving door of special guest friends and family along for the ride. We missed last year due to the birth of our first child, and I was so looking forward to bringing him for the first time this year.
Obviously there are worse things happening in the world. I’ve got grandparents in nursing homes, I work in healthcare support, and my heart goes out to everyone who is struggling thru this, both those facing the disease and those facing the economic uncertainty surrounding it. I’m privileged to say this is the worst thing that’s happened to me (worse than a month of furlough and counting.) But in my little corner of the world this is a bummer. I hope we can put this behind us, and have an awesome time back at the fort in 2021.
And I am also devastated by the cancellation. I was expecting it but this was my favorite lineup in the ten years I've been going. Jay said he invited everyone back next year. I pray they take him up. I will miss this SO much.
man thats just devastating even if i knew it was coming. it was like as long as it was still possible, there was a light at the end of the summer.
i think i understand this revival thing but tell me if i am wrong: i have (2) tickets to 2020 i paid 452 for. if i want (2) tickets to 2021 i can lock them by paying 2 x 500 minus my refund = 548 additional?
seems like a lot at first but knowing there could be increased demand and decreased supply it might be worth it...
If you do the membership thing, and Newport needs to cancel again next year (or goes under between now and then), are you out the $500 as it’s technically a membership/donation rather than a ticket purchase?

There’s the golden question.
ohhhh. i didn't consider this. i would wager you are out since its technically a donation. i would guess if they can't scrape by to produce a fest they would donate the money they do have through the foundation

I may have found an answer to my own question on Newport’s Facebook post. They state that half of the membership is tax deductible. So you’d probably be out $250 (the tax deductible donation to become a member and support the foundation) and get a ticket refund equivalent to $250 for the next cancelled fest.
