I've thought long and hard about requesting a refund or purchasing a membership. I don't know what next year holds for me, and if I'll be able to travel to Newport at the end of next July. Likely be buying a house within the next year. Still waiting to hear if I get a mandatory temporary furlough. Been trying to spread around donations when appropriate. Etc. Not to mention, there's always the chance that the festival doesn't make it to 2021 or that it's still paramount to avoid large social gatherings through 2021. It'll also be interesting how festivals like this, that probably usually begin booking a year out in advance, will handle booking for next year.
That said, I've decided to purchase a membership because the joy Newport brings won out.
Question for those who have purchased the membership. Has anyone done so as someone who had received tickets through Lyte?
I was selected for tickets through Lyte in January, and I guess I was charged through Lyte at this time. But I have the digital tickets through Eventbrite. Do I make the request for the membership through Lyte? Which won't even process my request until May 14, 11:59 PM. There doesn't seem to be any connection to my account (it doesn't require me to log in) when making the request through Lyte. Or do I make the request through Eventbrite since when Lyte delivered the tickets they did so through Eventbrite and I have an order number? I'm a bit confused. I don't want to miss out on an opportunity to buy a membership, since tomorrow is the last day. But, I'd like to see some confirmation of this decision rather than be placed in some request list via Lyte.
I got my tickets from Lyte. Lyte should have sent you an email with instructions. Follow that email and fill out the form. You’ll be able to make changes to it until 5/14 11:59. After that, I assume you get charged.
Did you end up getting charged (or any sort of follow up confirmation) since the deadline?
I got an immediate confirmation email about my request. But never anything about whether my request has been fulfilled. Doesn’t look like anything processed on my credit card yet either.

Just got my revival membership invoice, however, my original order was for 2 three day passes and I only ordered 1 revival membership. However, it is showing that I owe $250. Did Newport completely donate one of my passes and just used the funds from one? Was hoping to use both to pay for 1.

This is official? If so, that means I can still catch Bright Eyes next year at Forrest Hills on 7/31 (assuming things are happening by then). This is great news.
Just wanted to pop in here to promote the new Christian Lee Hutson album! He was at Newport in 2018, playing guitar with both Jenny Lewis and Phoebe Bridgers. (I think he was in Jenny’s touring band.) Phoebe invited him to lead on his song “Get the Old Band Back Together”, and it was wonderful, and is also on this new album (the studio take on the song is also fantastic).
Also, there’s an Orville Peck on vocals tune on the new Diplo album that’s worth checking out (a name that was conspicuously absent on this year’s lineup).

Got my email regarding the membership btw. I’m assuming you should see yours as well.

Yes! Thanks for following up. I received my email as well. But I still don’t have anything from Lyte claiming what I was charged or what I get refunded. (The email from Newport said we’d be getting invoices in another email.) I’m curious after seeing a potential mistake posted above in this thread.
Edit: It's a sad and tragic time in American history. I hope the change needed happens peacefully and everyone stays safe.
I'm just here because I love music and that includes protest music.
Protest music is a big part of Newport's history. This Janelle Monae song is a powerful modern protest song. I hope she performas at Newport some better day.
Hear Patterson Hood tell the tragic story about his neighbor at Newport 2017.

Edward Wright was a young black man who lived with his mother on Ruth Street, across the street from where I first lived after moving to Athens. His mother was always out working in her yard. She would wave and sometimes speak when we were coming and going. The Wrights’ yard looked way better than ours did. Her son, Edward, was mentally challenged, his behavior often childlike although he was a full-grown man of 20.
The Wrights were deeply religious. One day, Edward received what he was sure was a message from God, telling him, “Cast off all worldly possessions and go spread the word of the Lord.” Edward interpreted that as “Go take off all your clothes and go downtown and talk about Jesus.” Which he proceeded to do.
His mother was rightly concerned about her boy and called 911 to see if the police could bring Edward home. Instead, they shot him multiple times. He was unarmed and naked, but a cop perceived him as a lethal threat and shot him — in full view of some school children in the neighborhood, no less. The officers involved were cleared by the district attorney’s office. There was never a trial.
Hansard released a new video for "Good Life Of Song", a track from his latest release The Wild Willing, with footage from the documentary movie The Camino Voyage. It shows the time he joined three oarsman in a small hand-build wooden boat called a curragh as they rowed across the coast of Spain on a journey from Ireland. Without giving too much away it was a journey with trimuph and tragedy and worth seeing.
It will include musical performances, interviews, and unseen concert footage of John.
Guest appearances: Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves, Bill Murray, Courtney Marie Andrews, Dan Auerbach, Kevin Bacon, Brené Brown, Dave Cobb, Stephen Colbert, Peter Cooper, Iris DeMent, John Dickerson, Mitchell Drosin, David Ferguson, Vince Gill, Jeremy Ivey, Jim James, Pat McLaughlin, Margo Price, Jack Prine, Tommy Prine, Bonnie Raitt, the Secret Sisters, Kyra Sedgwick, Amanda Shires, Sturgill Simpson, Todd Snider, Billy Bob Thornton, Kurt Vile, Kelsey Waldon, Sara Watkins, Jody Whelan, John Paul White, and Rita Wilson. Prine’s band of Kenneth Blevins, David Jacques, Fats Kaplin, and Jason Wilber is also involved.
That’s a shame. Live From Here could have really shined during the lockdowns (and in the interim until live music becomes a regular thing again). Ketch Secor’s Hartland Hootenany has been an awesome weekly show to keep me connected during this time.
