Pete Seeger's Clearwater Hudson River Revival will be live streaming all day this Saturday, featuring Judy Collins.
This will be my first on line festival. You don't come here for the names but the cause. Also curiosity -- not quite sure how one picks the "stage," but should be interesting.
1) Other than tomorrow's Levon Helm concert (which would seem well suited for Newport weekend) -- anyone hear anything about plans for Newport Folk or Jazz weekends? Been a little out of the loop, I guess.

Thanks. "Webscasts" is pretty vague for now, as I am hoping there will be a variety of live performances, perhaps including representation from the Museum stage. Looks like Hudson River revival is dialing up what I would hope for here -- a variety of programming throughout the day, perhaps with choices. Again, not concerned about the so-called names. I know Jay has been hinting about some surprises. Certainly willing to pay my share.

Anything on a 2021 site?
No channel that I saw yet. Dates are July 23rd-25 2021.
now that i read it again, i guess "live webcasts" probably means artists playing from their home, but i really wish they would consider releasing any old live video content and running them back to back festival style.
lock'n is doing that this weekend, stacked schedule of back to back high res good audio shows from the past, great way to celebrate if you ask me (plus, anything to try to push to relive moments atthe fort like grandma's hands or the dawes 10th anniversary sets)
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Got my email regarding the membership btw. I’m assuming you should see yours as well.
Yes! Thanks for following up. I received my email as well. But I still don’t have anything from Lyte claiming what I was charged or what I get refunded. (The email from Newport said we’d be getting invoices in another email.) I’m curious after seeing a potential mistake posted above in this thread.

You See any charges yet?
No charges (at least of a few days ago when I looked), but I got an email from Lyte customer support about some sort of refund?
As the weekend gets closer I get more depressed that the fest won't be happening. I listen to the playlist and think about how great it would have been to see musicians that I love. I miss the anticipation of it all.
That being said, I noticed a few names on the Jay Sweet shared Newport 2020 list that weren't announced. Thinking they are either involved in the online weekend activities or they were going to be involved in after shows or surprise acts. The names are all 'Folk Family' so it could also just be that.
The Barr Brothers The Felice Brothers Tallest Man on Earth Mavis Staples Hiss Golden Messenger
It sounds like they are going to start announcing some details around what will be happening online for the weekend. Am hopeful that it will have a bit of the magic that Newport has. That being said, it is really hard to feel the same connection to the music when looking at a screen.
Not sure about the others involvement, but Barr Brothers were supposed to be Alexi Murdoch’s balding band. Jay mentioned that in one of his IG discussions a while back.

I still listen to my Newport 2020 playlist regularly too. I think I was most excited for Waxahatchee, Andrew Bird, Randy Newman, Steve Gunn and William Tyler, and potential headliners Deer Tick and the National. But I did get to check out Andrew Bird's livestream from a few weeks ago and Waxahatchee's St Cloud livestream, both of which were great. I plan on watching the next Bird one, which will include duets with Madison Cunningham, and maybe the Lianne La Havas stream next week. Really been digging her new stuff, highly recommend the Weird Fishes cover.
Definitely looking forward to finding out more details for what Newport is planning for that weekend. Curious what the "very special film" will entail.

def buying ticket for deer tick and very very excited for the documentary.
also really really hoping the 3-day stream of archived sets comes with a schedule ahead of time so I can plan. I'd also go for them putting all the sets up on-demand but i'll take what I can get.
Spend your weekend listening to archived sets from over 60 years of Newport Folk. There’s lots of ways to tune in: you can listen online via Newport Folk Radio on TuneIn or you can turn the dial to WFUV, WMVY, or WEXT. Don’t forget to support the year-round work of Newport Festivals Foundation so we can keep supporting music education programs across the country as well as artists in need.

Good to know Felice Brothers were going to make a return in some form. Could see them at the festival or just as a guest for Deer Tick (or both). Hope they're on next year's lineup.

I also watched the Waxahatchee St Cloud stream. It's one of my favorite albums of the year so far and I thought the stream was great. Brandi Carlile's streams have all been really high quality, and this weekend she's playing Bear Creek:
I expected live and recorded programming ala several other festivals, including the sinking in red Clearwater Hudson River Revival. Btw -- They are re-releasig a two-hour compilation that included fan input.
Newport, I figured Jay, George, the Foundation, the people who came up with kermit the Frog, and the bread and butter performers such as Jim James and Brandi and we could all name a dozen...would want to do something a little special.
When the schedule was released this morning. I was at first disappointed, but knew there would be vintage videos, and suspect Sunday's will be amazing. I love when they show jamming and going over parts behind the scenes. And love the idea of reproducing the excitement of an after show on Saturday live at The Fort. And, as jay has stated not long ago, featuring special guests. So the total package and lineup suddenly excited me. After all, so many people are offering to come next year, seemingly for no fee, and doing so much in other ways, that this is perfect Newport. I was fingers crossed we would have something live from the Fort and got it!
Now I read that live is really live on tape? is this true? When were we going to learn that...before or after paying the fee/ Yes, spontaneity matters to me. Knowing performer and listener is together at that moment is what makes live streams so great. Sorry I missed the Levon Show because that, from what I hear, was the show I wanted. And NJF gets nothing? That's a bummer. Do I want to spend $25 on pre-recorded stuff? Maybe I'll buy a shirt. I'll probably tune in on Saturday, But really..dishonest copywriting? Shaking my head.
Hey all, hope everyone is doing well. Just my 2 cents but I’m actually happy about the Deer Tick set being prerecorded. After months of watching live streams with subpar audio and video I’m kind of glad to know that we’ll have something produced well, especially being that it’s going to be ticketed. It’s not like they’re wrapping up an old show and selling it back to us. Plus getting a weekend of great radio for free, the documentary for free, sure you gotta pay for Mavis, and it’s an old show, but I wasn’t lucky enough to get to any of those shows so I’ll pony up some cash for the cause. Anyway stay safe everyone so we can all see each other at the Fort next year.
