If theyre booking Journey against Post then having Cardi on Thurs is a lock to ensure they have that day sell out of single tickets. So does Journey end up at ACL now?

Cardi has that type of pull to sell out a day? Is she top 4?
"We’re planning on a full album release in 2021 before we get back to touring. We did book our first show of 2021. We’re going to be headlining Lollapalooza in Chicago on July 31st unless they move it. My fingers are crossed that everyone is going to get the vaccine and feel good and get back to it. I’m just so looking forward to playing with the new band. Post Malone is headlining at the same time as us about a mile away on another stage. It’ll be interesting."
Journey's Neal Schon confirms again (with the correct dates) that they are playing Lollapalooza Chicago on July 31st on Bud Light stage against Post Malone.
Maybe it's going to be really hard to book bands this year? A lot of them are probably still scared to do it yet. Some will be more willing to take the risk.

I'm pretty low on the prospects of all of the Live Nations festivals this year. The company just took a next world loss, and people want to get back to concerts insanely badly, so demand will be really high. They will probably throw out the cheapest possible lineup that will still come close to selling out.

flip side is LN could use their market power to book cash-starved acts into multi-festival deals at lower rates. probably a combination of both that and what you said.

Yeah, thats possible. I don't know the economics of tours and standalone shows and how much artists are paid a lump sum for a tour versus a % of ticket revenues, but I think artists would sooner roll the dice on doing their standalone shows if the festivals are "lowballing."

a super high level review of Live Nation's 9/30/20 report shows they still have Cash and Cash equivalents of $2.6 billion, as opposed to $2.4 billion at 12/31/2019. While they've posted losses of over a billion dollars, they've also increased their long-term debt by ~$1.5 billion, and their direct operating expenses were drastically reduced by ~$2.7 billion. They have about $1.6 billion in deferred revenue on their books, which are all those tickets people chose to rollover.

I have a feeling very, very few acts are scared to get back out there. Most would prefer to get paid.

I just think they have to put Cardi on Thursday so it does well and it doesnt seem like they have to finally abandon the idea of 4 days. They cant just stack the weekend and treat their extra day as an afterthought. Also, its the only day of availability since she is at Osheaga on Saturday anyway.

Whatever you consider as “lowballing” isnt really that right now. The agents have been hiking up prices on talent moreso than the promoters the last few years. Its been brought up plenty of times that agents have strong armed the festivals to book multiples artists from their roster or else they dont get “artist x”. Cause the agents know that those smaller acts will net them some extra income that cant be quantified cause you dont know who will blow up following a festival. It got to the point a while ago when LN had to overpay to get talent and then it became the market norm, so we as the fans suffer from price hikes. We need some market correction right now because the promoters also understand that nobody has any fucking money right now regardless of not going to shows for a year. We cant be expected to spend more now for the same thing after all this.

LN has to balance talent acquisition for their events with gobbling up all those independent venues that will allow them to further consolidate their stranglehold on the live music industry.
Pitchfork applied for September 10-12 in Chicago. With Riot Fest the following weekend (17-19), potential dates to postpone Lollapalooza are starting to dwindle. They could do labor day or the last week of September but its something to keep an eye on.

Damn. Flights are gonna be so cheap too, I am down.
I think Lolla is going to hold their dates or cancel.
I think they move to Labor Day weekend
So you want to say LN will compete against itself and make artists go back and forth between Roo and Lolla? And who is to say barely moving a month is going to make an impact. P4k at least moving 2 months back seems to be playing it very safe and hoping enough improves. And if they moved then you have Outside Lands scrapping theirs since its California and we're in the worst shape you could ask for right now.

Wouldn't be harder for Lolla and Roo to share acts than Lolla and Osheaga and there isn't the issue of crossing a border. As for LN competing against themselves it's not like a ton of people attend both fests and with summer looking like a wash fests aren't going to have a lot of wiggle room with the calendar in the fall.

A bit on topic, but I really don't think Daft Punk will ever tour again. I know Thomas Bangalter has tinnitus, and a musician losing his or her hearing may as well be dying. The quick awards show appearances and their sick record deals seem like enough for them now, and I don't blame them.

or why don't you shut up 😡
I know! Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but as someone who is now suffering the constant ringing of tinnitus, I can understand why someone would go great lengths to prevent permanent deafness.
