I don't think we as a society are going to care about case spikes if immunized people aren't dying. We didn't really do anything about the holidays last year and that was when no one was vaxxed. We just live with the virus now. This stuff is happening sooner rather than later, imo, caution to the wind.

At some point these festivals are going to say screw it. If the vaccine is readily available and they have the chance to get the vaccine but choose not to, that is not on the festivals if something happens to them. We have to get back to our lives and we cant be waiting on these anti vaxxers or we will never get back to normal.
But youre gonna be like that maga rally in Oklahoma last year that had the signs outside plus the covid waiver. Nobody wants to do that. And who the hell is going to insure a festival if all they got working for them is that kind of thinking. Hell to the no. They all have to be all in on vaccines or they wont happen cause theyre bot covered. I only expect certain kinds of fests to be like that, but none of the big 4 will do so. Ive said it a few times but this is for one partial festival season to have to be hardcore. Who cares, make your money and be strict, big whoop. Next year is next year.

Yeah, its like theyre following the uk plan of re opening music. They set a date of June 21 when they are supposed to lift restrictions and some festivals moved their dates to the following week. While others just went later into the summer so they arent caught by the inevitable delay.

Have you see the news in Europe? At our current pace we’re at maybe 75% vaccinated by mid July? Could happen, hopefully it happens, but lots of shit can still go wrong. The pace could slow down as we get above 50 or 60%, there could be production problems, there could be real or overhyped side effects that slow things down. Everything definitely could keep going smoothly or even improve further, but I’d be a lot more comfortable buying tickets for an event in August right now than mid July

the way I figure is that the mask mandate will be in place until August. A masked outdoor show with a 50% vaccinated population is still pretty safe

Relevant article. Seems like they've botched vaccine contracts and screwed a lot of countries. The US appears to be doing MUCH better.

It seems like the political leaders in Illinois and Chicago are really eager to get back to business, and have a somewhat "normal" summer. Tax revenues took a huge hit over the past summer and the loop/downtown area has largely been in a commercial coma. They are going to try and get hotels/bar/restaurants whirring again as soon as they feel the risk tolerance allows it -- and a big part of that will be restoring "events" that draw people in.
I have no idea if Lollapalooza will go ahead at all, let alone on its normal schedule. But all indications are that the people in power want to see it happen in some form, it's just a question if the timing and requirements are something C3/LiveNation can work with. I am increasingly optimistic that they will.

Sf Gate editing their article after just saying new dates are Aug 6-8 is mighty shady of them. Thus my response. check the little part next to the initial author and says updated today after clearly being posted yesterday when that info did not exist.
Illinois is apparently announcing guidance this week and in lieu of Wrigley field announcing major concerts it seems that Lolla might just make it.
The big question for me is if Lolla shifted their dates internally some time ago assuming things would not be ready by August? Things didn't really start looking good for Chicago or the country at large until a few weeks ago, and it seems like a big gamble to have kept their marker so early in the season -- especially if many acts weren't planning to be on the road at that point.
