I'm not trying to spoil anyone's fun or hype, but how likely is it even that we get that rock heavy of a top 4, or line up even? We only had two rock headliners last year, the rest catering more to pop, hip hop and EDM more than anything else.
Kendrick is a pretty good prediction though.
I really enjoy when people try to act like the previous year's line-up totally negates the recent history of a festival. 2019 was just a bad year for rock headliners -- very few marquee acts touring, and the ones that were had played Lolla recently. The festival even acknowledged they probably over skewed towards a younger audience last year in interviews.
To find a rock heavy top line one only needs to go back to... 2018. The National, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, and Vampire Weekend offered a rock headliner every single night. This stuff ebbs and flows based on trends and available acts, but I'd say looking at the festival line-ups so far this year it's likely that this year will have more rock to offer than 2019.
My current thinking:
Pearl Jam - Guns N Roses - Kendrick Lamar - Miley Cyrus My Chemical Romance - Lizzo - Billie Eilish - Kygo
GNR could easily be replaced by RATM, RHCP or even the Foos -- just feels like Slash was booked last year for a reason. Miley could give way to an exclusive American Ellie Goulding festival booking (only doing Lolla Stockholm at the moment). Bottom line seems fairly likely, unless Kygo isn't actually top 8.
Pearl Jam is still a big swing, but with a new album out and supposedly no dates within the radius clause for the rumored spring NA tour, I think they might finally come back and try to capture a new audience.
PJ and GnR is a LOT of money. Also I think Slash was booked last year as a cheaper alternative to GnR. It wouldn't make much sense to bring him back with GnR. Also Miley already isn't an American exclusive.. Shes playing Roo AND BottleRock and headlining neither so her being in the top 4 is a pretty big long shot.

I was saying Ellie would be an exclusive, not Miley. I'm not as locked on her position as the top 3 -- she could easily be lower.
Slash/Myles Kennedy played 1 GNR song, that's a tease not an alternative.

Ohhh, I mustve misread that. But it still seems weird they would bring Slash two years in a row, especially on a year where GnR played fests and they only booked Slash

The talk at the time was that perhaps they wanted GNR last year, but they weren't ready to get back on the road until the fall (supposedly Axl was working on new material), so they took a novelty Slash booking and locked them in for 2020 instead. Sort of a Childish Gambino 2018 (before the broken foot) situation where they wanted him for both but the timing wasn't quite right.
Obviously mostly speculation, but might explain why they played ACL last year but not Lolla. We also know they're going to be active on the road in Europe through the end of June, so it seems like they'd potentially have some US dates to follow that.
God I hope no GNR. I was rail after waiting all day on the hottest friday ACL has ever recorded and GNR just don't cut it. Was my 5th time seeing them on NITL.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
They haven't had a headliner whose usual shows last longer than the hour and a half though. Last two years where they did, 2015 Paul McCartney and Metallica had the usual time they get (2 hours and a half for Paul and 2 hrs for Metallica) in 2015. Radiohead got 2, RHCP got 1 and a half which is what they usually get at fests. I think the only shit year was 2017 when Muse and Killers were given 75 minutes.
Nothing beats when Voodoo 2017 gave Foo Fighters 90 minutes. Now that was shit, considering they gave them two hours and a half 3 years before.

I was gonna counter but the only headliner last year who regularly plays for longer is TOP. (Got 75 minutes, regular shows are 2 hours)

Festival wise that is what they got in 2019. They got the same amount of time at the South American Lollas and Boston Calling had a little bit more time (I think about 90 minutes) but they only played one more song, so something must have happened there. I mean its TOP they dont have the power to ask for longer times like Paul or Foo. You could say the same about Metallica since they had the snake pit at some festivals. I will say it was cool to see Arctic Monkeys go over time at Lolla and ACL both weekends since they were over 20 mins overtime at both

I don’t think we get Pearl Jam. Along with the spring tour that’ll be announced this week, it sounds like a fall tour is also in the works with Wrigley shows in those plans.

Slash playing Nightrain means literally nothing. He did that at every show of that tour. They stopped filling the set with GNR covers starting in 2018 but kept Nightrain.
I’d think if they get PJ, then RHCP and Rage have to be out of the question. I hesitate to believe the festival that booked Ariana Grande and Bruno Mars is gonna invest that much money in dad rock at the top in 2020.
Pearl Jam tour announcing tomorrow and no Chicago date. They get close with St Louis, but thats it. Probably likely.
I believe this is supposed to be Spring tour only. I still think Wrigley is in the picture for the Fall leg that'll be announced later. But if there is no Chicago announced it always leaves the door open for them.
