I liked the first few seasons but fell off at the end because it was feeling extra pretentious and annoying to me. Like, I typically can watch plenty of shows where people say there are no likable characters but for some reason this show made me more annoyed with everyone at some point. Still found it funny at times and always liked Adam Driver's stuff but I think the show just lost me. Maybe i'll revisit it at some point. Might also be related to Lena Dunham being more in the news/media with some of these foot in mouth takes and stuff so maybe that soured me a bit but who knows?
Adam is like the most unlikable character on the show!
Yeah, but I meant more from an acting standpoint. Like, he was totally unlikable and a bit crazy but I think it was the first time I saw him act (if I saw other things he was in prior I didn't realize). Never felt Lena or Williams were very compelling. Shoshanna won me over, acting-wise at times. I think I never really jived with Jemima Kirke.
Driver and Lena had some electric scenes and I thought he was so fun to watch but at some point between seasons I think I just grew away from the show.
That tweet isn’t that bad people just like dunking on her at this point (which is totally understandable).
Yeah, this isn't terrible. Just another case of putting her foot in her mouth. It came from a kind of good place I guess but she doesn't know how to read the room sometimes.
it kinda makes her cringe and iconic at the same time.

The characters are annoying but I liked watching them be annoying and mean to each other. One of my favorite lines is when Marnie's mom says "no one's going to want to be your friend if you talk to them like this" and Marnie says "I talk to my friends way worse than this!"

I think there's a lot of merit in his words here. That said, once I know the person is a shitty person, I'm probably not going to continue to endorse them with my dollar or my time. However, if their beautiful art (this is really specific to music for me) was an important part of the soundtrack of my life prior to me finding out how shitty they are, I'm not going to eliminate that art from my listening. There are quite a few Ryan Adams songs that meant a lot to me for a good chunk of my adult life. When I hear them, I'm whisked back to a time or a place or a person or a moment, and isn't that one of the reasons we all love music? To deprive ourselves of that is not going to hurt the offender - only ourselves. But he probably won't ever get another dollar from me, short of some historic and sincere redemption story.
for instance is jk rowling is terrible and has said all sorts of anti-trans things recently. i read the first harry potter in 1998 and HP/fantasy has always been a huge part of my personal nerddom. now if i buy anything harry potter related, i buy from an independent maker so that rowling won't get any royalties. i know it is a small thing but it does help make ME feel less shitty. lol
Something that's cool about Spotify is I can listen to cancelled artists and rest assured that they won't get that much money for it.
and whenever i see a cancelled artist live, i'm always grateful for ticket master fees. i know at least that portion of my purchase won't go to the artist, it will go to ticket master who make buying concert tickets online easy and secure.
Roger Waters doing his best to get cancelled by denying war crimes in Ukraine , that chemical weapons were used in Syria and anti-Semitic stereotyping.

Eh, personally Roger's politics..to use his parlance...mean absolutely bollocks to me. Same as Kanye's don't. Same as whoever else's don't. I get annoyed when publications, people, and media try to use someone's beliefs as a weapon.
When I buy a ticket, all I care about is if the show is going to be good. But to each their own.

Aren't Roger's current(and past) shows very political?

Kid Rock could noisily devour an infant live on tiktok and i'd still get teary-eyed when he goes "MY NAME IS KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDD". his voice is so beautiful.

Kind of the opposite for me, at least when it comes to attending shows. Do I enjoy the Smiths, and.continue to do so? Yes. Will I buy a ticket to racist-ass Morrissey's gig? Nope. I did attend Roger Waters' show at MSG last month, but that was before I realized how around the bend he's gone and what an asshole he is about it - honestly, it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth and I likely wouldn't have gone if I'd known.
I dunno. I don't fuck with people who support fascism in my day-to-day life, so I don't really want to fuck with them in this way, either.

I remember awhile ago in this thread when we were guessing which random celebrity would get cancelled next my first thought was Brad Pitt and was wondering why this stuff hadn't come out sooner.
Does Pitt have a history of issues or allegations that I'm oblivious to?
Alcohol induced. No excuse. And none of this would have come to light, but their fight over their French winery led her to talk. She tried to sell her share to him, but he insisted on an NDA, so she said fuck it and sold it to a big box winery. He’s pissed and suing. Big mistake on his part.

that's one of the most infurating thing i keep reading in people's comments: why is she bringing it up now? she's just trying to get money! (????? i don't think she needs his money) she's just mad he's popular again! why say something 6 years later!
not even realizing/acknowledging it's bc they're in court??? they just like to blame her. it's gross.
