i've kind of taken this thread in that spirit, generally. like some real heinous shit has been discussed in here, but it's mostly just gaffes that won't result in cancellation.
i've been all over the place on this "cancel culture" thing, and i think the general answer is that celebs (and companies) need to just grow a thicker skin. if you say something untoward and twitter comes for you, either say "my b" or "nah i think it's fine to say that" and then shut up. and if it really wasn't a big deal companies need to stop knee-jerk firing their employees out of fear. i think that's kind of the direction we are heading anyway.
like that mumford guy, people are mean to him for a day and he quits his fucking band? then goes on bari weiss's podcast for an incredibly boring interview? like just say you are conservative. people with differing political views may not like you as much but any twitter rage you are getting will go away after a news cycle.
i was online pre world wide web, dialing into bulletin board systems on my landline when i was in grade school. and i learned really quickly that people are going to be mean to you like immediately. not saying it feels good but it's just the internet.

Joe Rogan supposedly paid for Tim Pool's alternative "kitchen sink" treatment plan after he testes positive. People are literally going to Joe Rogan for medical expertise instead of actual doctors and scientists.

holy shit the whole thread of all the things he was saying is just wild. I finally looked into it to see what he was saying.
I also saw a funny tweet or comment that pointed out how his wife, Shailene Woodley, has given off strong anti-vax type of vibes for a few years now. I know that she's all about the all natural and nature and probably homeopathic stuff so this tracks.
I don't think they're married and a couple days ago I saw a headline that they were maybe taking a break
but regardless, it's not something that needs to be pinned on her, I'm sure they were similar re health, he's a professional athlete, but he is a grown man who shouldn't be this dumb
that said, miles tellers wife got them robbed while they were all on vacation together because she live tweeted their whole vacation, so it's possible they're just all very dumb.
miles also has been an asshole on film sets recently w protocol from what I've seen
shalenes not this super sphere of influence that corrupted Aaron, he doesn't even talk to his family lol

I just remember seeing her on some late night talk shows talking about how "natural" and "woodsy" or whatever she is so when I saw the comment I thought "Sure, that makes sense." There's a lot of hippy-ish type folks who are just as anti-vax as the right wing zombies.

Of course you had the occasional conspiracy theorist but most of them weren't all that bad, and the best of the guests were extremely interesting. He also let them share what they thought but did press them from time to time. Really since like halfway through Trump's presidency he completely changed. Been moving further and further to the right and of course all this idiotic covid stuff. Essentially just another conservative grifter at this point after having Bernie Sanders on and saying he was going to vote for him just 2 years ago. I haven't listened to an entire episode in probably a year and a half, but I've tried a few times. Its just complete ear garbage if you have any ounce of rational thought left in your head. I guess whatever happened to him to make him the way he is is what he's doing to his global audience of millions. It sucks and I hope he stops because he's big enough that it really is harmful to society

I genuinely looked up for the way he could question his guests. He seemed to have done his share of research every time a guest came on and at the same time, like you said let them share whatever is on their mind or what they wanted to talk about. That's a skill that I rarely see - or I just don't consume enough talking shows/podcasts to form an opinion about how great of a host he or his level of skill is. But you're right. Until like 2018 I felt like he was fairly left but that really took a turn in the past couple of years and especially since covid. The nonsense he just spouts is insane and is in great contrast with 'big' episodes from a couple of years ago. Like sure, he'd have a conversation and have interesting guests on. But nowadays it feels even more as the 'Joe Rogan'-show as it ever was. Or something.
