I could’ve used some more house/Techno, but I’m feeling this lineup. Pretty Lights instead of illenium would’ve pushed it over the top.
I also saw a lot of these acts this year already.
I agree with PL > Illenium or almost anyone. I figured he’d be back this year and get off hiatus. He’s overdue to be back on the circuit. I don’t think I’ve seen him since Day for Night DJ set. As for the house and techno (which I generally avoid but will see some of the more rare shit), We did get Blanke and Lick (maybe electropop more than house?), Chris Lake, Heelturn (local black dj who plays some house), Eli & Fur, i_o (techno), J Worra, Tchami +/-and Kayzo (house among other things). I actually feel like it’s more lacking in dub this year but I guess they have a couple space bass and hard bass acts. Really they went more pop and multi-genre djs this year.

I’ll never understand the appeal of Illenium. And I really enjoy Chris Lake but I’ve seen him twice, not that I’ll mind seeing him again. It sounds funny seeing as how I like Lake, but i_o is a bit too generic for my taste. It seems like they’re the two big gets of each genre.
Ima have to check out heelturn. I’ll be there regardless to see Tyler
LOL since it's already been leaked. What we don't know is if the leak from the app contained everyone who is going to be announced in the main lineup announcement or if they are saving anyone big. Some users on other boards around the web and on Reddit have said that they only release local names later on. That's not correct as the last few years, only one or two local acts were usually included. It's a mix of upper, mid-card, lower-card and obscure adds and the distribution has been different in different years. Here are the recent final adds for example:
2019 - Earl Sweatshirt, Kasbo, Kero Kero Bonito, Yves Tumor, SunSquabi, Mason Maynard and The Iceman Special
Didn't they do a phase 1 and 2 drop last year? I can see this being only phase 1.
Not really. They did the main lineup release and then added the other people I showed in the other post at the end of January. I can't remember if that was the day the schedule came out or if it was the day they gave you the by-days which I'm thinking that might be more right with the schedule a couple weeks before the festival.

Thanks infinitypass. What I’m hoping for is that they at least protected some upper shit. If you figure Bassnectar, Dog Blood, Deadmau5, Lana, Rocky, MGMT, fuck em for that performance but Migos , Travis Scott - it seemed like some stuff at that level was missing. Flume and Tyler are up there. But I’m curious to see if there is anything big that might be exciting for me.
The adds bring the lineup way way up in my opinion. I love Gramatik and got cheated at Bonnaroo with the short set. Hopefully he will get/get to curate an After Show as well.
RTJ will be making their 3rd appearance at Buku. RTJ rules live, and I haven't seen them since Float Fest 2018. So that's exciting.
Pussy Riot's going to be making America great again. I caught 20 minutes at Day for Night and loved it. I'm excited to see them again.
Charli XCX - I never cared for anything I've heard or watched by her, but so many people on here that I respect their opinion endlessly say how great she was at this or that. So maybe I'll have to stop by over there to see for myself barring any conflicts.
Kaash Paige turns out to be an 18 year old African American Female R&B or neo-R&B singer.
Treety is a black New Orleanian female bounce rapper. I haven't heard of her, but she's got some videos going back to 2017 out there.
The good stuff: Tyler the Creator Turnstile Run the Jewels Glass Animals Megan thee Stallion Flatbush Zombies Gramatik Space Jesus Subtronics CloZee Dance Gavin Dance Peggy Svdden Death Voyd Mr. Carmack Pussy Riot The Trifinity
Then there's some talented stuff that I may or may not be in the mood for at a given moment (Kaytranada, Chris Lake, Ari Lennox, 100 Gecs)
I'm giving the lineup a "B" for Buku expecting more adds in January. Gonna be fun again.
I love that they added the "In Alphabetical Order by Line". They did NOT need to add that and I didn't see the by line part at first and thought someone didn't know their ABC's.
Other than that, this isn't horrible. I would definitely go depending on the schedule and work.
You would hope so since it's way bigger (maybe not?), more days and not really that comparable except for the attitude of parts of the lineup. I don't get the point.

I think Buku might be bigger capacity and talent budget wise.

Word looks like it is bigger (since last year’s expansion). I always love III Points lineups as they tend to have some progressive and more random shit that we don't get genre wise. Last year GY!BE, Tim Hecker and Konoyo Ensemble, Khruangbin, Herbie Hancock, etc.
But it's in Miami so an Uber ain't gonna cut it. I'd go if I lived that way though for sure.
Paper Diamond posted that this is his 2nd year doing Art Direction for Buku. That's pretty neat.
He's a pretty cool guy. He's in a band called Pnuma with a couple guys out Gravity A and elsewhere which I guess is an Austin/New Orleans collaboration thing. They're not super great or anything, but they'll do. Young and Sick I think was the OG designer who was doing all the creatures and old posters and collaborated on the lineup release videos they used to do. I think that the art within the app is better than the poster. This year is a lot of 3D/textural concentric lines or whatever.

FWIW I think a III Points style lineup wouldn’t sell very well in Nola unfortunately, I could be wrong and just not have much faith in the local youths. Either way I’m looking forward to making the trip back to Miami
$uicide Boy$ got announced for main stage so that’s an upgrade for them. They played Wharf last year and Float Den a few years back. There are some more lineup additions soon per the $B announcement. As noted previously, they usually give you some adds when they release the by-days but there isn’t a lot of consistency year over year as to how far up or down the lineup the adds might be. I’d still like to see PL get off the couch and headline but he still might not be ready to perform yet.
Last year the by days came out on January 22nd, so maybe next week or the week after?
By-days come out tomorrow which usually means the final several artists added that are going to be. Hopefully we can put to bed exactly what the rest of the lineup is going to be. Between the people left off of the schedule from the early leaks to possibly a few other acts out of the blue. TBD.
What I can tell from the lineup update on the app (not on the website yet), some/all of the adds are:
Dom Dolla (House DJ from Austrailia)
Don Toliver (rapper from Houston)
G0 Pnik (Dub from ?)
Kompany (Never Say Die label) b2b Calcium (Dub)
Lucii
OHSO (female, black Toronto DJ, don't know the genres)
P-Tab (local mixed genre DJ)
Stone Cold Jzzle (local rapper)
Looks like those are the adds. So the by-days shake out like this (* = shit I'll try to see):
Friday $uicide Boy$ * 100 Gecs * Alison Wonderland Blanke b2b Lick Bouffant Bouffant Channel Tres Charli XCX Chris Lake Daily Bread b2b Artifakts DJ Heelturn Flatbush Zombies * Flume Glass Animals * Goldlink * G0 PNIK * I_O J. Worra Lucky Dave Malik 95 Mhadi G Mija Live Mr. Carmack * OHSO * Raise the Death Toll * Roddy Ricch Space Jesus * Stone Cold Jzzle SVDDEN DEATH: VOYD * Taking Back Sunday The Trifinity *
Saturday: Ari Lennox * Cashmere Cat CloZee * Dance Gavin Dance (maybe) Dom Dolla Dominic Fike Don Toliver * Eli & Fur Gramatik * Illenium JPEGMAFIA * Kaash Paige Kaytranada * Kayzo Unleashed Kompany b2b Calcium * Kota the Friend Lady Lavender b2b Edgar Allan Po'Boy LSDREAM Lucii Megan Thee Stallion * P-Tab * Pluko Pussy Riot * Run the Jewels * Subtronics * Trigem b2b Meso Turnstyle * (see below) TVBOO Tyler, the Creator * Upbeat Academy
Turnstyle - I found their recent "House" EP with Mall Grab was kind of weird. It's not that I hated it, but I prefer the Hardcore version of Turnstile more. Since Mall Grab isn't at Buku, I'm assuming that will mean they will play Hardcore \m/

Dub from NOLA.
Yes, Turnstile will play hardcore. Their split ep was a "Remix" EP in collaboration with Mall Grab. Its some of their songs from their last album, danceified.
Turnstile was supposed to open for Suicideboys at their headlining show at Mardi Gras world this past August. I guess this is repayment
Their twitter says late shows this week. Hopefully if they do a rock show, we will get Animals as Leaders and Veil of Maya which we aren’t getting a tour stop otherwise (DGD is on the lineup). Also SVDDEN Death: Voyd is said to be in the New and Improved Float Den. I’m sure it’s not fixed yet, but if they are gonna put hard shit in there, they hopefully can increase the capacity back somewhat.
Update Monday - late shows drop tomorrow. They usually don’t give them all at once, but we’ll see.
RTJ said their new album would be out by Coachella. No doubt we will get some debuts off 4. Danny Brown, who they also should have brought back, released 3 Tearz with RTJ a couple days ago. It’s kind of anthemic the way it’s presented, but I’m happy they are getting active again.
Not super enamored with the first wave of night shows. I want a rock or rap show. But as of now Moon.Dot and Dead Beats after dark would have some cool supporting shit. Moon.dot is all them b2b2b and Space Jesus b2b Huxley Anne who I think is his old lady, Buku, Yheti and Tiedye Ky. Dead Beats is Zeds Dead, Moody Good, Subtronics Wooked on Tronics and He$h b2b Bommer. One of my friends is all about the Spicy Bois show which I think is Chicago and some local cats. Ima wait for Round 2 before buying any late night tickets.
