They give you a good product for your money. It’s much smaller (20k vs 65k) and only 2 days, but they have more acts per day. I don’t know what they will do this year, but I’d like to see them bring back Pretty Lights. Lineup is set to be announced this year in December, so that’s a little later than what they’ve done the last couple of years. They usually throw some adds in with the schedule as well. It’s not for everyone, but I’ve seen so much crazy shit there since 2013. Last year I caught Earl Sweatshirt, Lana, Kevin Gates, Black Madona, Excision, $B, Death Grips, Denzel, Earthgang, J.I.D., Dog Blood, 1st to Last, G Jones and Yves Tumor. So you get a chance to catch some shit maybe that isn’t always on the circuit along with some stuff that is.

It's definitely worth the price. March next year is already looking busy for me but would love to come down again. As in past years it will be the rap that makes or breaks it for me. Hoping for something like Schoolboy Q (due back plus new album this year), Danny Brown (ditto), JPEGMAFIA (would fit right in), and slowthai as a start. Wonder if they couldn't pull Lil Ugly Mane or someone of that nature too.

Haha. My youngest dragged me out to Danny Brown tonight. We had fun.
I think its more about Voodoo being under-priced. You can argue about if you like a certain headliner, but over the last few years to get in for $140 and with minimal effort be pretty close to main stage for 3 big acts, easily worth more than price.

Lil Ugly Mane is my holy grail of rare acts ive seen but I think hes done with shows for a bit. he did his first actual tours this year and last. albeit they were only a few dates

booked lil ugly mane here in SD last year! crazy, crazy show.

This. Voodoo is so cheap. Even if you only want to see two bigger acts it's worth it.

OTOH they fucked me over with the Sunday lineup. Only way it ends up being worth it now is if the rain end of next week can just hold off until Bassnectar, I’ll gladly watch him and then walk home through more storming rain to get my Sunday money back. :/
But you are right on the GA buy. I’ll give you a buck 40 any day for a chance to see The National, Bassnectar (or Beck), Guns N‘ Roses, Brandi Carlile, Brutus, Denzel Curry and Moon Taxi. Incidentally that’s all in the first two days which further illustrates how off Sunday is for me. Fuck you for that Voodoo.
This is what I’ve uncovered so far and/or am guessing at:
Likely: Allison Wonderland (they have traditionally brought in the artist who they use for their initial video and it’s her. She’s no stranger to Buku and has played 3 of them i think so far including festival sets and official after parties. Hearing some street rumors from this chick who might have connections about the emo/rock lineup which so far *took it down but pm me if you want those 3 acts *
Hoping for Gramatik and PL on the EDM side. Borahm Lee hinted a while back that PL live would be active in 2020. Also while they are at it, they need to bring back Break Science. Also if you read this Buku, go next door to Texas and get me Polyphia. Maybe RTJ too?

I don't think too much. It caters to a similar demographic (maybe average age slightly older than Ultra) but completely different target audience. Ultra generally has the big room/big name DJ acts whereas Buku likes to hit different genres and catch some of the fresher stuff. Last year the only things I noticed that crossed over were Dog Blood, G Jones and Peekaboo - all 3 of those are acts I like and saw. I don't usually like too much of the Ultra lineups though their resistance stages usually have some cool stuff. Also, Buku is partnered between Winter Circle Productions who handles the bookings and Goldenvoice which bought the festival and WCP. Someone (readyforfest91?) said WCP will be assisting Hangout booking this year which should probably put somewhat of an edge on Hangout's lineup if they really are involved.
I have no idea what they're doing this year outside of that PM I sent you which was really more stuff from the mid/lower card. They'll probably have 5 or 6 rap acts, a few bands (rock, emo, jamtronica) and some collaborations along with one or two big fest upper-mid and upper card acts (Lana, MGMT, Rocky or Kid Cudi).
1) Dance Gavin Dance (March 18th San Antonio, March 19th Dallas, March 20th Houston, March 23rd Oklahoma City). I barely know them but they'd be a band I'd want to catch based on technical proficiency. Perfect in the Ballroom.
2) In super fucking excellent news, this means that technical-instrumental band Animals as Leaders should also be at Buku unless they get the night off or an afterparty show. This is great since I've been wanting to see them for a few years. Very technical rock/metal/djent with Swedish Death Metal style influences along with some math rock technicalities. This would be a Top 5 Buku show for me easily. For anyone who doesn't know them, skim through a few seconds of these:
Also Veil of Maya is on tour with Animals as Leaders and Dance Gavin Dance. Could be on the bill or a late show?
Fisher played last year because Claude brought in some Dirty Bird stuff for the house side of the lineup. Obviously he could be back though.
I forgot all about that. There was some solid House on that lineup, with Yaeji, Black Madonna, unicorn fukr etc. Hopefully they repeat that
Yeah, you never know. They sometimes concentrate a genre in a specific year and don't go back as heavy to it, if at all, in subsequent years. But with the expansion to 20,000, I think it's pretty much a given that they will do a slightly underground house lineup within the different formats. Clearly they are increasing the number of bands if the rumors are right, and there should be plenty of dub/wub/trap/bass/etc. DJ's like there always are. But it will be nice for the fans of house if they do include a few house DJ's. Since the Float Den and docks probably aren't fixed yet, the Float Den becomes a somewhat ideal stage for lesser attended acts which would likely be most of the house stuff.
supposedly that’s an exclusive Ultra get. Idk if that just means for Florida. I bet we get Fisher from that lineup
Per Ultra's statement regarding exclusive artists from last year, "artists will NOT have other performances during Miami Music Week. Instead, Ultra Music Festival will be the only place in Miami to see these unique performances."
So only Miami. Though he could be at Coachella, as they make exceptions for Ultra artists.
I'm curious, how come the Float Den and docks aren't fixed yet? Didn't the damage happen a while ago?
I don't know. It was May a year ago, but how do you fix them because they are all over water at the spot of the crash. If you could demo some of it and rebuild from there, it would be one thing. But to go underneath the docs and buildings, it might be prohibitive or it might be tied up with insurance claims in court. Eventually they'll get that addressed I'm sure, but who knows what the timetable is?
I got what I could, but I haven’t run into anyone else who usually knows shit. Next chance would be at Liquid Stranger, but that’s the day after Christmas and the day after that. The lineup will be released by then For all but the few acts they are saving to release with the by day announcement. We know we won’t get Bassnectar or Tipper. Which btw, one perfect angel of a child copped me a 3 day pass to Tipper today. Shit sold out in minutes except for the camp out at the venue tickets they release in 2 weeks. RL played last year and Skrillex came down with Dog Blood and From First to Last so if he did play again it would be in a different capacity. With Diplo, Major Lazer, Big G (though they just played Voodoo) and Marsh Mellows popping up on lineups , any of them could be upper card DJ’s. There would be enough else going on at a given time to skip any of that shit somebody didn’t want to see. Maybe Baauer comes back? Deadmau5 (would be too soon)? My hope is Pretty Lights gets a live band main stage close. And maybe they bring back STS9 or Tycho for a sunset set. And Gramatik is due back which is instantly a mega plus even though he did me wrong at Bonnaroo with the short set.
