One thing to keep in mind with Freeze and perhaps a few of the others mentioned above is the impact the Auburn opening could have on Tennessee. Word is the Vols would prefer not to pull the plug on Jeremy Pruitt after just three seasons. He was Phil Fulmer’s hand-picked choice, but the Vols are really, really struggling. Pressure is mounting. It’s no secret Freeze has been enamored with Tennessee football from long before he was ever a college coach, and he would be seen as a splashy hire. Does Tennessee now pivot to try and make sure Auburn doesn’t snatch away someone they really want?
Is Freeze better than Malzahn though? I don't think so.
I think people have in their head that he is. Also, I don't think Malzahn is a terrible coach. He's getting the Mark Richt boot. Fan base just wants an SEC championship and have convinced themselves Gus isn't gonna do it.
That's my first thought, but I also think Clemson may have made enough of a statement last night. Yes, ND beat Clemson, but Clemson was down a ton of players including our future #1 pick. Playing Clemson pretty much full strength, they got embarrassed. That could stick in the minds of voters.
Read a few conspiracy theories that fulmer did this to get him fire for cause to either take over as coach or install Tee as coach (since tee turned down south Alabama and the raise earlier this year, or... something).
Also seeing lots of people calling to hire Gus.
Maybe controversial take, but I'd prefer getting kiffin back over gus, tbh.
